I actually know this little wretch. Didn’t realise it was him until I looked through his Twitter profile and saw some of his picks this morning. Weirdly, looking at his tweets, he seems to write like he’s proper Scottish but I always remember him having one of those middle class accents that sounds English. Appropriating Scottishness as well it seems!
Oh my goodness! That did make me laugh. I did notice his attempt at dialect on Twitter and wondered just how much of that was affectation. Thank you for confirming. Everything about him is fake, from his boobs to his accent! (Is he even ginger...?)
He was not ginger when I knew him. I think his hair is dark but he used to dye it sort of purple back in the day, so who knows. He was a tiny wee emo when I knew him. Loved singing at the rock karaoke place, belting out My Chemical Romance. I think he did crave a lot of attention.
Yup, he must be about that. Maybe early 30s. He does look very young for his age but he is a tiny wee person, so I guess it makes sense. He is acting like someone in their teens though.
Even I, an American could sense something affected about his Scottish lingo tweets. They seem like someone who is not Scottish but trying to appear to be so, like Americans wearing Kiss Me I'm Irish pins and wielding plastic, green sheleighles claiming to be Irish.
Subject: Your Rouge Misogynistic Employee Targeting Females in Edinburgh
To Whom It May Concern At Greene King,
I am absolutely outraged at what occurred at your Doctors Pub in Edinburgh. Your male 'trans' manager waited until a diminutive female customer was headed to the loo, alone, to verbally accost, threaten, intimidate and toss her (and all her friends) from your establishment. This highly unprofessional, misogynistic manager has previously posted bizarre nude photos of himself all over the internet, with lude, rude and disturbing statements and comments regarding his genitals, intimate sexual practices, hatred of women and violent intentions towards women in general. That he is employed at your facility is profoundly distressing. That you would permit him to call the police on customers who are simply having a drink at your pub is beyond shocking and alarming. This man took it upon himself to act as judge, jury and executioner regarding his own personal (private) beliefs, which should have no place in any restaurant or pub. I do not feel at all safe in ANY of your establishments, alone or in the company of others. Greene King needs to rid itself of this lone misogynistic lunatic, apologize to women everywhere, and ensure that no woman is EVER bullied or victimized by anyone connected to your business ever again. I fully intend on boycotting your businesses and encouraging others to do so as well, until this matter is properly resolved to my satisfaction.
I'm old enough to remember the days when unaccompanied (by a man) women didn't go into pubs. Or 'naice' ones didn't anyway. Looks like Greene King are trying to recapture those days. They have pubs in England too, so a boycott could be damaging to them. Shouldn't be to difficult to organise.
We used to have a men-only bar on the corner of the street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They were all over the Boston area. We had a good time spray-painting their outer wall.
They were women from that community and so were known to everyone. Maybe that made a difference. I remember Ena Sharples,, Minnie Caldwell and Martha Longhurst being very territorial about The Snug in the Rovers Return.
this is v interesting - maybe the n west led the way for independent women? the stereotypical 'andy capp' of the time (maybe just the n east?) wouldn't have liked such behaviour. i have no idea whether the social life/social independence of working class women has been handed down beyond oral storytelling/narratives or has it been written about or studied - and if it does how would we find it?
Absolutely. It has been - there are lots of oral history projects that led to or were part of other ethnographic studies. Sometimes attached to museums and local history groups, so really worth looking there - many online now. There have been big national ones and projects with the National Archives. Sometimes if you search for an industry (coal mining or fishing, engineering, air, munitions, farming, brewing, naval, lacemaking) or place name (or a particular ward or parish), or institution like the/a church or religious movement you can find stuff - the temperance/religious or political movements and their impact on places or society. How a good pub was viewed as a community asset. Or not. Local crafts, education, work or leisure pursuits is a great way in. Or laws, crime or penal reform. Local library services used to be funded to do projects like this too, so worth looking in their records. There use to be specific officers dedicated to this embedded within local authorities.
Look at local bodies like English Heritage/Historic England too - lots of current town, village or high street initiatives focus on just this type of thing and have outreach and community projects to bring things alive. Universities based in these areas tended to have close connections with what's on their doorstep. Big country houses or places like mills (and mill owners who liked keeping records) and how their workers lived their lives. When there are anniversaries or redevelopment, or new funding, there is sometimes renewed interest (a lot was formerly tied to EU funding). Much of this is volunteer run (now). Lots of local Welsh history is featured in funding for large infrastructure projects. Look at civic society and philanthropists too. Or authors with ties to an area (like Charles Dickens). There's some truly vivid tales matched up with local historical sources.
The information held by University of Edinburgh on witches is fascinating - you can see some very detailed lives, their families, occupations and why they were murdered. https://witches.is.ed.ac.uk/
I think there's even enthnographic work and commentary on Coronation Street and TV and radio representations of social history. You are bang on!
I just can't see the pub standing behind this vile employee. Pubs are there to serve drinks and make money, not police the opinions of their patrons. I don't know the law in the UK but suspect this has to be contrary to the Equality Act so I sincerely hope this man-child will be ejected from his position (and ideally escorted off the premises by the police).
I'm sure it will be sacked... questions will be asked about how it ever got a job there in the first place... surely? And children's 'entertainter'... i think the police and social services should be paying this bar 'person' a visit!
I’m sorry this happened to Marion Millar as it’s a terribly exhausting thing to absorb this constant silencing, bullying and abuse of targeted women. It’s also downright insulting and abusive and from the very worst and most infantile people pushing a misogynist agenda. Their views and needs are disrespectful and rude. It’s so tiring to have to absorb the predictability and childishness of it all. Clearly the mental issues they have are to deeply entrenched and in unable to resolve. It’s all about shameless control and undermining of women so handmaids and misogynists should really be vilified publicly. I mean really how childish and vile. If only an eye roll would do it but pushback is required they’re so shameless and delusional. The appropriation of womanhood is just the tip of the iceberg of disrespect brave women are expected to put up with. I hope he loses his job he’s clearly unable and unworthy to even shut his mouth and serve drinks or clean loos for women. A very low bar indeed. Delusional, egomaniac with all forms of arrested development. Does anyone teach these little shitheads what is and is not appropriate? Well carry on resisting and naming and shaming these blokes ladies and allies because they need telling it’s not bloody on and we’re not having it.
All I can think of is the pub story from Australia I wrote earlier! Shall I repeat? A woman and her friends were drinking at a pub and some dude would not leave her alone. She kept asking him to stop, tried to ignore him, nothing worked. He ordered a fresh bottle of beer and it exploded. He looked at the woman and she said, "Next time it's your bollocks."
I was there but left early missing the stooshie as my feet hurt. We more verging more on 20 women. We had just been to a Fringe walking comedy tour and were concentrating on chatting amongst ourselves and eating and drinking.
Not only does it breach license conditions, it is specifically illegal under the Licensing Act 2005 for a licensed premises to discriminate against any members of the public. The police clearly don't understand the law. You can't just ask someone to leave for no good reason; this is clearly no good reason.
And especially not a bar lady, since those of us who have ever worked in a bar or managed such an establishment know how to handle customers of varying natures without aggressively ejecting them.
The more things like this happen, the more I wonder how 'Visit Scotland' will handle their next tourism campaign. I used to love visiting and working in Scotland, but this must be damaging how it's seen. There is a growing list of places to avoid - thanks for adding yourself to that list Greene King.
I think Greene King may surprise us by taking action. They've already said there will be an internal enquiry. I doubt they'll be very happy by the way this chap is representing the company. And, as Dave M says above, he's probably broken the law and breached the licencing conditions.
Given that every other TA account on Twitter has a begging, sorry, GoFundMe link attached, I don't put much faith in the robustness of the 'trans pound'!
at a talk (2019) where a prominent marxist trained 'lefty'/old and showing their age transactivist was talking about his recent book - he did let slip that male middleagedcrisis transitioners did need to ask for money online repeatedly to fund their ongoing hormone/drug habit. but not so much that a hat wasn't passed around at the end of the talk for donations.
said author is about to publish a book about the post-modernist 'feminist'? author kathy acker (university press no less)- and presenting acker as 'trans'. acker did have short hair and tats so might be 'read' as queer by those trying to claim her as queer/trans in accordance with queer theory, by stealing the female identity/erasing her womanliness of any woman they want to model themselves on/take as a muse/or unrequited mentor. and trans academic grace lavery does review said authors books.
Those of who weren't there can't know what actually happened, so obviously Greene King's enquiry needs to get to the bottom of that. But there can be no justification for the Tweets etc this awful man saw fit to post, whether they are true or not. The company must take a very dim view of that. Surely a sacking offence?
No, it's not real. He's utterly delusional! That bio is a sarcastic response to someone who called him exactly that on Twitter. I saw him reply to her with a very aggressive denial that AGP exists. I was trying to screenshot everything before he (inevitably!) protected his account but I missed that one.
There's an old saying in nursing: If it's not written down, it didn't happen. Well, matey, you wrote it down, so people are going to take you at your word!
The profile of the TiM who manages this place on Twitter states he’s an AGP porn addicted male cumbrained submissive - vile I know but he wrote that in his profile and he clearly hates women. Absolute madness in Scotland.
Oh, yes, his Twitter feed is an absolutely hot mess of misogyny. But he changed his Twitter bio as a sort of sarcastic response to those calling him AGP and porn-addled etc. (I saw him furiously denying that AGP isn't real! The truth hurts, I guess.) He thinks he's being funny.
He unlocked his account again so I had a scroll further back on his tweets to see what he was writing about before this kerfuffle. It’s totally riddled with sharing OnlyFans type accounts, and loads of references to his personal sex life 🤮 So I am going to say that he’s actually told us the truth about himself in the bio, even though he thought he was being funny. He can’t backtrack on what is written down now.
Vile. I blocked him. And all the suck ups applauding his behaviour. Seems his boss gave him today off but reading between the lines he mentioned he’s moving to a new job (reckon he’s been let go early). I Reckon his future employers will be unimpressed by his antics unless he’s off to mill-stonewall or prick news
Not only a woman hating little shit but a thick as mince woman hating little shit. I don’t have to meet him to know exactly what he’s like. I hope he gets sacked. I don’t say that lightly however I imagine he’s a bloody nightmare to manage.
‘I have been a regular customer at the……………..for a few years now and enjoyed many a night out. The staff are lovely and the food and drinks are reasonably priced. I’ve recommended you to family, friends and colleagues and was in fact there on Friday night spending about £60 on food and drinks. I have most probably frequented other pubs under your ownership.
However, I was disappointed and angered at learning that my friend, Marion Millar, was deliberately targeted by one of your employees in Doctors Bar in Edinburgh and told to leave. This wasn’t because of rowdy or disruptive behaviour; it happened almost as soon as she arrived and for simply being who she is and having opinions which said employee knew were contrary to their own.
This member of staff referred to her as a ‘TERF’ and has since gone on to tweet this derogatory and misogynistic slur several times.
Am I to consider this employee as being representative of your organisation? An employee who calls themselves a children’s entertainer but exposes themselves on Twitter and talks openly about their sexual exploits? Who is deeply misogynistic in a culture where just recently, women in Plymouth tragically became the deliberate target of a misogynist?
More pertinent to your business perhaps - is it normal for your staff to ask your customers to leave if they know they have an opinion contrary to theirs? And to then call the police to force their friends to leave when they haven’t exhibited any of the behaviours that would normally warrant police intervention? Are you going to ask your customers to complete some sort of opinion survey and have staff review it before allowing entry? If so, then I certainly do not wish to visit any one of your pubs again and will be telling my friends, family and colleagues about what happened to Marion; I don’t think they’ll be too impressed either.
In reply, I’d like some reassurances that this is a one-off and that the appropriate action has been taken against the employee involved’.
And yes, I was actually there on Friday night. Some boycotts are tougher than others.
"The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society". I think it is illegal. We don't have the protections of the first amendment like in the US. But people can't be discriminated against based on their views.
There would be strong grounds for defamation here too. Asked to leave a pub like she's committed a serious crime. This really is incredible when you think about it.
Yes, calling the police to a licenced premises has serious consequences and I doubt the brewery or the pub chain will take too kindly to this angry little man taking it upon himself to phone the rozzers!
Pretty pathetic that 5 police officers even showed up to a pub to remove a group of women. They wouldn’t go near a group of rowdy men without a physical fight having kicked off.
Inquiry launched into row over 'transphobia' in Edinburgh pub
A major UK hospitality chain has launched an investigation after police were called to one of its pubs after a group of women were told they had to leave because they were “transphobic”.
I'm just so fucking angry! Marion deserves so much better than what Sturgeon's shitehole has thrown at her.
She absolutely does.
I actually know this little wretch. Didn’t realise it was him until I looked through his Twitter profile and saw some of his picks this morning. I think he still does!
He gets extra hates from me because his profile picture is too much like Linda from one of my favourite sitcoms. 😠
Yes, it is affected. And not very well.
Yes, I noticed he can't even write scots properly. Riddled with errors.
Originally thought he was early twenties at most from the way he writes... actually around 40. SMH.
That's astonishing. He clearly has the mental age of a chrysalis.
He even used poggers in one tweet I saw. My son and his pals (15-17) use it. I mean...
I admit, I have no idea what ‘poggers’ even means.
It means something is good, according to my teenage informant.
Yup, he must be about that. Maybe early 30s. He does look very young for his age but he is a tiny wee person, so I guess it makes sense. He is acting like someone in their teens though.

He could be. Upper class Scots who have gone to public school (which confusingly means a private school - I know 😏) often sound English.
I'd rather be wasn't Scots. We have enough nutters of our own ,I'm sure ,( including the government ) without importing more !!

I know it’s a typo, but “rouge misogynistic employee” is totally apt!
Great letter! ☺️
😆🤣🤣🤣 My spellcheck has a sense of humour, lol. Thank you
The trans taliban alive and well in Scotland , policing women who won't do as they are told--great letter!!
Excellent 👏
Love this!
Well said !!
Well, this man has certainly brought his employer into disrepute. Bellhaven Pubs, owned by the Greene King brewery, might not be best pleased.
I'm hoping Greene King will not sanction his behaviour but will let him know in no uncertain terms that he cannot get away with this!
did they interview him? how did he get through the selection process - aren't hr digging through online postings?
I guessed he must be older than he makes out on Twitter and only behaves like a puerile teenager.
Ha!
and later weren't women meant to stick to the saloon bars?
The lounges
i'm not sure what the difference is between a saloon bar and a lounge bar - but they were both more respectable/comfortable than the public bar.
Yes! 😁 we called them the lounges in Wales.
We used to have a men-only bar on the corner of the street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. They were all over the Boston area. We had a good time spray-painting their outer wall.
What did you spray on the walls?
It was something I cannot write on here. Language!
I am too. But in Coronation Street, right from the start, The Rovers were frequented by women drinking alone. Were the writers trendsetters?
They were women from that community and so were known to everyone. Maybe that made a difference. I remember Ena Sharples,, Minnie Caldwell and Martha Longhurst being very territorial about The Snug in the Rovers Return.

Yes, I feel so sorry for Marion having to put up with this nonsense. Just trying to have a night out.
How very dare she? These gas lighters can fuck right off.
All I can think of is the pub story from Australia I wrote earlier! Shall I repeat? A woman and her friends were drinking at a pub and some dude would not leave her alone. Only me. (KIDDING!)
And especially not a bar lady, since those of us who have ever worked in a bar or managed such an establishment know how to handle customers of varying natures without aggressively ejecting them.
Nope. Women don’t behave like that.
The more things like this happen, the more I wonder how 'Visit Scotland' will handle their next tourism campaign. Well let's hope so. And it's potentially completely undone all their lovely marketing and business projections. Lovely, welcoming pubs huh? Woops.
Yes, not really what they're selling! Not to mention the way he as represented the company on his Twitter account!
I've been mulling over the economic nature of this - the 'pink pound', the 'purple pound'. Is this now 'trans pound' vs 'terf pound'?
Given that every other TA account on Twitter has a begging, sorry, GoFundMe link attached, I don't put much faith in the robustness of the 'trans pound'!
at a talk (2019) where a prominent marxist trained 'lefty'/old and showing their age transactivist was talking about his recent book - he did let slip that male middleagedcrisis transitioners did need to ask for money online repeatedly to fund their ongoing hormone/drug habit. but not so much that a hat wasn't passed around at the end of the talk for donations.

Apparently his training didn't take if he doesn't understand that MATERIAL REALITY EXISTS.
While I haven't been there for years, Doctors was always a lovely pub. I won't be going back there any time soon.
Those of who weren't there can't know what actually happened, so obviously Greene King's enquiry needs to get to the bottom of that. But there can be no justification for the Tweets etc this awful man saw fit to post, whether they are true or not. The company must take a very dim view of that. Surely a sacking offence?
Is that 'porn addicted AGP' in his bio for real? If so, at least he knows the truth about himself, or some of it anyway.
No, it's not real. He's utterly delusional! That bio is a sarcastic response to someone who called him exactly that on Twitter. I saw him reply to her with a very aggressive denial that AGP exists. I was trying to screenshot everything before he (inevitably!) protected his account but I missed that one.
So he has used it as an ironic comment in his bio? Who knew?!
Oh well, never mind...
It's on Greene King's logo now anyway. So more fool him I say.
Yes, he thinks he's being funny. He tweeted about updating his bio. But it looks like the Edinburgh Evening News have taken him at his word!
https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/inquiry-launched-into-row-over-transphobia-in-edinburgh-pub-3355594?fbclid=IwAR2vdWlzXhhFOnBqVBBIONwa8DTjUwQBsmayq6owCxKnVUmAbHE0utGxuA4
And so did I... Three points then in addition...
1. I don't care if I misrepresented him on my satirical 'pub sign', as it's his own fault.
2. You cannot blame anyone for believing it after seeing his appearance and observing his disgraceful, unhinged attitude.
And after a period of reflection,
3. I still don't care.
And it is true!
If he says he is AGP porn addicted... we must resect his identity, like pronouns and and believe.
There's an old saying in nursing: If it's not written down, it didn't happen. Well, matey, you wrote it down, so people are going to take you at your word!
Aw nut! He will be absolutely loving this attention! But hopefully it will highlight just how absurd this whole thing is.
Yes, I'm hopeful this will prove to be a 'peak moment'.
what would it take to 'peak' greene king hr dept?
The profile of the TiM who manages this place on Twitter states he’s an AGP porn addicted male cumbrained submissive - vile I know but he wrote that in his profile and he clearly hates women. Absolute madness in Scotland.

Speaking as an American, how is this not illegal? Can someone explain?
"The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society". I think it is illegal. We don't have the protections of the first amendment like in the US. But people can't be discriminated against based on their views.
There would be strong grounds for defamation here too. Asked to leave a pub like she's committed a serious crime. This really is incredible when you think about it.
and wasting police time - i'm sure their are actual crimes happening in scotland.
I must assume that the Scottish police are as ignorant of the law and as cowardly as urban American police.

Shouldn't that be, 'Inquiry launched into row over aggressively rude and idiotic serving staff insulting female customers in Edinburgh pub'?
It's the wrong way round!
