The 'support' for victims of rape and sexual violence is now becoming part of the trauma. It is so shocking that we have reached this place.

That poor woman. How was Wadhwa not sacked the moment his lies came to light. This is the worst virtue signalling every. Alienating the women the crisis centre has been set up to support. Absolutely pitiful and shameful.

He pulls the race card... It is different in India. People like him are accepted as women so we need to do the same here, whereas our laws need to kick in. Legislation is there for a reason. When he came to Scotland he should have been told about GRC and made his apicatiin. He didn't because he would have been found out. Better to get his opinions and beliefs on the table and court "the great and good" as protection because then nobody can touch him.

The FM should have pushed for the law to be applied, but it would seem that bigotry can hit anywhere...

No. We don't need to be accepting any man as a woman. Not through legal ID. Not through self ID. Not in any sense. I don't care what India does. The UK and USA are not India.

Anyway, India's several steps ahead of Scotland, they have set up domestic violence shelters specifically for trans people. Go figure, huh?

And you know what? It's racist to keep someone in a job because he would claim racism. It is very hard in the U.S. to get people to understand that it is perfectly okay to criticize someone who is African-American, Latino, indigenous, etc, because of their policy stances or actions. People voted for Obama BECAUSE of his skin color so they could congratulate themselves on how enlightened they were. I don't know if you have to put up with as much self-congratulation in the U.K. as we do in the U.S. but I find it nauseating.

Before Obama, we voted for white men because of both their skin color and their sex.

Culturally we behave as if white isn't a race and male isn't a sex. But they are. And it's time we noticed.

There is a degree of it but in the main, it is not tolerated as most people are not political. The state until recently were very middle of the road, but as they employ more younger people who don't seem capable of applying brain instead of simply accepting what is said, it seems to be moving more towards the ridiculous rather than the ordinary. We also still have the ability to challenge through Freedom of Information so it means that we can ask to see information on a sorts of topics from all departments of government, public bodies and organisations that take public money. Means there is less nonsense as it will be made public.

This is unspeakably sad. We've completely lost our way up here.

Basically, 'you poor baby; tough sh*t'.

There aren't words for such callousness in the face of such heartbreak.

This makes me viscerally angry and it has to stop.

Just heartbreaking.

The whole thing is so beautifully composed by the author from start to finish but her sign off? So unbelievably dignified and powerful.

What an amazing presence of mind she has to remain so eloquent in the face of such (in my mind) criminal indifference (at best) and negligence (at worst).

This amazing women has been failed at every turn. And we are supposed to believe this is progress.

“I am wary to trust and that’s my right”

Well said, it is our right.

Thank you for letting us read that. It speaks volumes.

"...But I live in Scotland. I don't trust the police..." How utterly shaming is this to Police Scotland, who will give not a feck, of course.

Expand full comment

That stood out to me as well. That anyone, let alone someone who has been through one of the most serious serious non-fatal experiences, quite correctly distrusts the police this much shows how much the "justice" system is failing.

Yet there is probably a fleet of cars currently in the Police Scotland garage being sprayed with the usual array of political virtue-signalling Stonewall flags so the LGBTQ+ community can feel 'safe' and trust law enforcement. I am sure we are all looking forward to seeing the roll out of police cars/lanyards/epaulettes with the Suffragette colours...

I am sure everyone who read that will have been very moved, angry on her behalf and wanting to send love and a virtual hug. This is what brave looks like, thanks so much for sharing.

I think we have found the most powerful position in the world since evidently no one has the authority to fire this man from a position he was fraudulently hired for.

Unite the Union is now campaigning for single sex women's aid spaces in Scotland as the SNP government has suggested these should be gender neutral. Most Women's Aid have Union recognition agreements with either Unite or Unison. The STUC is backing the campaign so we may see changes happening soon.

That’s very interesting Mandy. I’m in Unite. Can you post any more information about this please? Or tell me where I can find out more. Thanks.

Ask your branch secretary/chair. I got an email as I am branch chair. Women's Committee is being asked to discuss/support as RISC raised it.

Brilliant.

And, no, these crimes and abuse are not 'gender neutral' so the support afterwords isn't. Rape isn't gender bloody neutral.

The regressiveness of progressivism.

Expand full comment

I increasingly think it's a case of the regressive self-identifying as progressive. I don't think it's a coincidence that the foundations set up by billionaires who fund gender activism also support fundamentalist religious causes. I saw a blog post from Téa Smith recently which summed it up for me: "I didn't leave the left. There are squatters in my house."

That poor woman.

Surely Wadhwa's position is untenable. One thing that really troubles me, that I don't think has got much coverage, is that this man not only lied about his sex, but there's no evidence that he has any qualifications in psychology, counselling and/or social work or specific training in trauma-informed care. This comes across loud and clear in his commentary on victims and sexual assault, which range from the confused to the downright creepy. The orgasm comment for instance - yes, that is something that can happen because the body reacts to stimuli regardless of whether the person wants it or not, but it's the first thing he brings up? Talking about "reframing" trauma in almost identical terms to a certain MRA YouTuber who gets upset if women call men creepy? Leaving aside taking a job where being female was a requirement (bad enough even if he were eminently well qualified and the most sensitive trauma-informed counsellor on the planet), HOW did this individual inveigle his way into a service which surely requires proper therapeutic qualifications and training when all he had done was manage a call centre? Was it his SNP connections - he seems pretty good at schmoozing his way into high profile circles? Will it turn out that he is a grifter and con artist akin to Billy McFarland, or Anthony Gignac (pretended to be a Saudi prince), or Belle Gibson or Elizabeth Holmes or this guy? https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-24/victim-urges-new-standards-after-fake-psychologist-scam/12484122

This is a dangerous experiment on the victims who use the service. They are allowing an unqualified and uninformed individual to determine how services are offered to traumatised people.

Once upon a time there was a survey that asked women to define "creepy." In the end, the answer was MALE.
