I am still reeling from the shock of being referred to as a 'cis' woman by a younger member of my family in a text earlier today. I was apoplectic, told him that is made up terminology which is offensive to women. I also let him know I am not 'cis' anything, I am a woman full stop. I cannot believe I have to clarify that in this day and age.
Stupidly he does. I sent him a review 'of Trans' and explained that trans activism is trying to erase women's experiences, language etc and how offensive and wrong that is. This is when the 'cis' bullshit was brought up and I put paid to that nonsense. I am furious that he felt it was ok to refer to me a 'cis' given how I feel about this issue. Anyway it will never happen again.
Conflating sexuality and gender to make a non-sensically emotive argument for the RTs
Imagine for a second an atheist writing a hyper critical book called "Religion" and you'll get some idea how totally fine it actually is.
Imagine for a second a comedy writer creating a sitcom called "Father Ted" and you'll get some idea how important it is for an outsider looking in to lampoon a sacred caste.
Ah I do love you Graham and all you do. It's easy for those activists to cobble a sound bite to the applause of their baying seals. Thank you for standing up for women everywhere and you're spot on, no woman with a grain of self respect would refer to herself as cis
He’s an absolute fucktard - I’ve been on this thread to dispute the term
Cis. So let me get this straight- a gay man thinks it’s ok to tell a straight woman that she has no right to write a book about an ideology that is transgressive and threatens women’s sex based rights? He can just fuck off. I’m done with these posturing dick swingers. Look at me - I’m so woke - please love me 🤢
I wasn't sure who Gaby Hinsliff was talking to in her Guardian review:
"refusing to acknowledge these fundamental conflicts precludes finding solutions."
It seemed to be aimed at Joyce, which was astonishing to me. But whoever it was aimed at, coming from the guardian, it's remarkable given their lack of appetite for recognising any conflict whatsoever.
Full context:
"it would have benefited from fewer pages of highly contentious speculation about what makes people trans and more interviews with policymakers, activists, the ordinary trans people she considers misrepresented, and others capable of explaining exactly how a radical minority cause seemingly won over quite so many politicians, judges, employers and other traditionally conservative forces. Instead, we get an exasperated polemic accusing activists of so aggressively overreaching themselves as to provoke “a backlash that will harm ordinary trans people who simply want safety and social acceptance”. They’d be better off focusing on improving trans healthcare, Joyce argues, not demanding access to women-only spaces or puberty blockers for teenagers. But what if being able to use women’s changing rooms, rather than fearing violence in the men’s, is very much an issue of “safety and social acceptance” to many trans women – albeit one that may leave some women feeling less safe? Refusing to acknowledge these fundamental conflicts precludes finding solutions."
Yes. The solution that makes the most sense and keeps everyone safe is third spaces open to anyone. In case they are worried it will mean a trans person will be outing themselves by going in, well, we can already tell anyway.
The money that organisations were spending on Stonewall's diversity champion scheme could go towards the construction of these spaces.
Of course ,as we all know ,the only people harming trans people are the abusive transactivists and their supporters (aka the woke brigade ) !! Causing untold damage to society !!
Well said Graham !! We WOMEN will continue to claim that definition as our own ,and the woke brigade can like it or lump it !! Notice he avoided saying " cis WOMAN " saying " cis person instead WOMAN = ADULT HUMAN FEMALE !!
I can only order from Amazon Germany and having to wait until September. I've read the intro and first chapter on the Amazon UK website, it's so readable. I'll just have to sit and wait.
Back in 2018, I had thought Bulgaria (where I live) had a bigoted government that refused to sign the Istanbul Convention. One read of this article show how prescient they were regarding the concept of gender identity, which was their main stumbling block https://balkaninsight.com/2018/07/27/bulgaria-s-constitutional-court-says-istanbul-convention-not-in-line-with-basic-law-07-27-2018/ May they never, ever change on this one (by the way, they definitely have provision for gay rights in their constitution so they're not like Poland or Hungary)
Good for them !! Hope they never cave in to the bullies !! Wish I could move there ( our holiday has now been cancelled twice thanks to Covid !!) Wish the Scottish government had the backbone to resist an " ideology " that makes the world an even more unsafe place for women

How infuriating. Does he refer to himself as a cis-man?

He's retweeted himself as well! That's the internet equivalent of huffing your own farts.
Oh, you were my friend on Twitter before I got permabanned . You were brilliant 👏👏👏🥰
Shauna! Good to see you! I got permabanned from twitter too. All the best people do 😉

I can't explain just how much I love 'man at bus stop.' Perfect for this clown.
So embarrassing seeing a grown man use 2014 teenage girl Tumblr language. Cis. Fuck that for a laugh.
He really is a weapons grade jobby. Are these people EVER going to engage with ideas they don't already agree with??? Probably not.
He also tweeted "It's not a "debate" if only one side gets to speak."

My irony meter just exploded.

I bought Helen Joyce’s book today and look forward to reading it. What an awesome speaker she is too.
Brilliant book !! Couldn't put it down !! I've now nearly got a full bookshelf of books on the same or related subjects
