I got a bit snowblind working with all the screenshots so let me know if there are any mistakes!

It's very damning, Harrop (and Hayden) should be behind bars.

They both blocked me years ago, didn't like a little digging of their own backgrounds.

Expand full comment

One wonders why.

Thank you for collating. Poor Caroline, and family. This is, as the judgment said 'deplorable'.

Can I suggest you superimpose something over the doctored screenshot to indicate it's fake? Otherwise it risks getting shared uncritically.

I admire your fortitude, Graham. Don’t believe in god but you’re a godsend.

Whooaaa... You certainly needed a strong stomach for this one. Great work.

Just one factual question: Caroline Farrow's husband being a Catholic priest - am I right in presuming that he used to be a Church of England priest and converted? A Catholic priest being officially married raises a few questions otherwise.

Expand full comment

Yes I believe he converted as a married vicar.

Concerned about the doctored image - needs something across it to mark it as fake.

I don't see Adrain as a mistake to be fair...

This harassment is despicable. What kind of man could even contemplate this? This is new to me, and I'm sickened.

Expand full comment

This type of behaviour has to be criminal, even in the eyes of the police? Never mind his ludicrous suspension by the GMC, he needs to be brought to book by the law.

Expand full comment

The police are too busy arresting and harassing women over ribbons and alleged transphobic tweets !!

Expand full comment

Cops only care about stickers now.

Expand full comment

Did he get suspended? Do you know the reason?

Expand full comment

He has a month's suspension. It's in the article before this one.

Expand full comment

Yes just read, thank you. That’s why you don’t read email from the top down… a month is a joke. I hope he got a dressing down and warning not to repeat. And I hope he does repeat and gets struck off. Does not seem fit to be medical professional.

Expand full comment

Although a month appears derisory, it is in fact in GMC terms, a serious blow to his career. He will be being watched like a hawk.

Expand full comment

I hope you're right.

Expand full comment

Yes I hope that is front and centre when he applies for positions. If it's visible he will probably have difficulty becoming a partner in a GP practice. But such is the NHS that a) they are desperate for doctors so he will no doubt be able to be able to find locum or salaried work and b) commercial work outside the NHS is often more lucrative. I wonder if it's easier to hide GMC suspensions from the private sector? In either case given his online apparent need for public attention my money is on him following the recent trend of doctors turning authors, and writing a book on trans matters. Depressingly I fear he will find his niche. But hopefully not treating people directly.

Expand full comment

There certainly seem to be some issues there: at the very least, an utter lack of objectivity and professionalism; at worst it's probably diagnostic. Either way, he hasn't covered himself in glory.

What a malignant pustule this man is. To think he is a GP on the NHS horrfies me. Someone like him should not be in a position of trust. He is an utter sociopath and belongs behind bars.

Cauterise the pustule !

Harrop is PSYCHO!!!!

Expand full comment

Thank you for stating that frankly. It is quite obvious he is a very sick man and needs some serious consequences for his behavior.

Sadistic

Expand full comment

Sadistic is the right adjective. His words reveal a pleasure in taunting, hurting, terrifying and destroying the mental health of Caroline Farrow. He is a psychopath. Thank you, Graham, for bringing together this evidence. I guess that we can only hope that the next time Harrop attacks anyone (NOT Caroline Farrow, I pray!) the GMC decides that he is a liability to his profession and strikes him off permanently. Do doctors have to declare any disciplinary incidents when they apply for jobs? Do hospital trusts/GP networks search his profile?

I hope that he is by now so notorious that any employer would think twice about offering him a job,

Expand full comment

Yes they do, and should, but there are limitations on some things and systems fail. Then sometimes checks aren't done or followed up. Or people lie and evade to get jobs. And it depends on the job and employer. Then when in post it's trickier to get people out. He will have to do something and be caught doing it. And you have to be shown to be failing in your duties, so here they used wider trust in the profession being affected.

I'd like to think his penchant for being so public and the dedication he showed in how he did it has skewered him until now.

There is an effort to keep people, retrain people and many believe we should give people multiple chances. It's also hard to prove intent. But this guy was so dedicated and shows such little remorse that was proved. It's a watching brief now.

Expand full comment

Yes, I think he is more a psychopath than a sociopath. Psychopaths enjoy torturing people; they get pleasure from it, which he obviously does.

I don’t understand how this man is allowed to practice as a GP. He is horrible and clearly a danger to this woman and quite possibly others. How could a person with such a personality disorder get past the authorities?

Expand full comment

It is incredible, but I can't help but wonder if it's down to our capture by identity politics. That he's viewed as a member of a protected minority group, and as defending another protected minority group, so was able to escape scrutiny as an individual, and was instead championed and sided with by police and the US Embassy (FFS)? His malevolent predation given a free pass as activism 'on the right side of history'? A blind eye turned to personal failings at least in part because of the 'protected minority' victimhood hierarchy, I fear.

Expand full comment

The US Embassy bit and the Surrey Police parts are very strange indeed and I wonder if this links to the strange behaviours that the Surrey PCC picked up on and spoke up against. If his threats had any basis in fact I hope any possible queries are resolved. It's stalking behaviour - and using social media to give the impression he was at those locations. If he was that is a whole scale off the scale.

I wouldn't randomly threaten things on social media and link that to any US Embassy either. It seems beyond naive. Like a little boy tying fireworks to a cat's tail. This is not looking good for Stonewall. What effect did their influence and advice have here?

Expand full comment

Who would ever want to be in a consultation room with that madman!?

Expand full comment

I was wondering the same thing. The NHS should look into that, if you ask me.

Expand full comment

I was thinking it would be a good idea to put applicants thru some sort of psychological test to check their suitability for the role of GP before they’re allowed to start their training. Otherwise you’ve got people like this wasting, what, seven years of their life, and a lot of money to train for a job they’re going to be dangerously unfit for.

Expand full comment

I think if people who become doctors had to pass a basic psychological fitness test the U.S. would lose a lot of doctors. When my husband was in nursing school, the teachers' PET was a young woman who was clearly unfit to be a nurse; she got struck off the nursing registry for various violations, including practicing medicine without a license. This is one thing I have a hard time understanding about people: no matter how old they are -- and you do become sharper at detecting these things with age -- they can't seem to clearly see other people, instead investing them with their own needs and desires.

This man is insane!

Expand full comment

Oh my goodness Graham, what a dreadful ordeal for poor Caroline and her family. Harrop has clearly taken a childish and spiteful pleasure in causing distress and fear. Quite unhinged; I pity any patient that has had to rely on his treatment. What a waste of medical training.

Expand full comment

He should have been struck off.

Expand full comment

Harrop should be sectioned, not suspended for a mere month. He's completely disgraced himself but people need to know exactly what he has been doing. The GMC have let him off very lightly indeed.

He's actually a loony. A fucking psycho.

This is typical of a domestic abuser. The baiting, psychological abuse, gaslighting, outright lying, the targeting of her children and her home, the misogyny ... all in order to scare the woman out of her wits so that he can portray her as mad to the authorities. 80,000 women were released from UK asylums in the 80s after being wrongfully incarcerated for being victims of male violence and their distress/experiences portrayed by the medical profession as madness. Some had been electrocuted, drugged, raped or lobotomised to make them recant their experiences at the hands of men, mainly in their own families. Harrop is using all the tactics of a domestic abuser and he shouldn't be allowed near any female patients. He is a violent misogynist and unfit to practice medicine. His behaviour is typical of a misogynist and he will not stop until he 'wins' over any woman that dares to stand up for her rights in law.

Yes, brilliant comment. I hope enough others realise and the coercive aspects of how he and others like this operate. Real life examples always have more cut through as the dry stats are often so big the people they are about get lost. I have spent many hours of my working life trying to work out how we and the public understand some things.

The abuser co-opting others and convincing them and as many others they can of their version of events too. Then convincing the victim they they are alone and everyone else is against them. And targeting then isolating someone. Becoming fixated. This is a perfect illustration. He should not be in a position of trust or with a duty of care.

I didn't read too much about Harrop as I am self-protective and I need to trust that others and processes would act. But he is utterly foul and seeing the detail of his campaign of abuse laid out (thank you Graham and ripx4Nutmeg) and his attempts to brush it off as 'jokes' is foul. Utterly familiar and utterly foul. Dr Deplorable hardly covers this.

We still have vulnerable women (and men and girls and boys) incarcerated now. Right now. And that's 'for their own good' in 'hospitals' and 'mental health units' and 'care' and 'homes'. And being abused and overlooked 'in the community'. Bloody well everywhere.

I think we can add this to the ways in which the law is failing people. The medical and specifically pysch professions have questions to answer.

What a disgusting individual - no, several individuals. And bigoted. I can't imagine you'd want him as your GP if you were a Catholic. How dare he harass her like that.

Expand full comment

No one would want him as their doctor. I think if he manages to get a place somewhere there’ll be a lot of complaints made against him by the patients. Other staff members too I would imagine.

Expand full comment

If he's a psychopath -- which he appears to be -- he may be capable of being perfectly charming when required to be.

Expand full comment

Yes you’re right. I think the complete lack of empathy would show through though. But then, Shipman got along for years, didn’t he.

Expand full comment

I thought that was the point of psychopathy. Yes, there is a complete lack of empathy but psychopaths can don a veneer of normality (which is why they fool so many people). The woman who writes true crime (Ann something) wrote about Bundy, including that she had known him years earlier while working on a suicide hotline together.

Expand full comment

Yes I think the inability to empathise is the main characteristic. As far as a veneer of normality, I think it depends how clever they are. My Dad was a psych nurse, and one of his patients was obsessed with stealing bikes. That was all he was interested in. He was well known to the police (we lived in a small town). According to Dad, they have the emotional maturity of a teenager. I s’pose I mention the bike thief because I think there’s a spectrum with the illness. I don’t really have a point here, but was it clever of Harrop to leave a trail of online evidence of his harassment campaign? I’m just thought wandering.

Expand full comment

The thought wandering is helpful and shows you have much more ability to empathise than he did. Yes, there are spectrums. It wasn't clever no, but he didn't think he'd get caught, so therefore there was no need under that premise for him to hide it. In fact these activists are so convinced they are by default on this supposed 'right side of history' (they are busy rewriting) and the law, so he wanted his virtuous campaign to get the biggest audience possible. It seems to have never occurred to him as the object of his harassment he had 'othered' to the point she didn't count. She was a woman, she was of faith, she disagreed, she was heterosexual, she was 'cis'. He was singling out and attacking someone and their family in the service of his 'chosen' greater cause. He was so busy 'empathising' with his preferred group, he 'forgot' or was unable to empathise with anyone else and dismissed the rights and humanity of another and others. He dedicated himself to abusing others online. He dehumanised her. Odd for a GP.
