I heard Judith Butler speaking about gender in an interview some years ago -- before I was aware of the gender wars -- and she was very plausible: but it was also a bit disturbing because I found myself going along with ideas I really didn't believe, but the way she'd got there made it very hard to disagree or figure out why they seemed right-but-wrong. She seems to have this confounding effect on a lot of people: it's probably necessary to read her books to be able to pick the text apart and identify what she's doing & how she's doing it. But have so far avoided reading them!

But the bit in the middle where short men overlap tall women doesn't mean that any of them change sex. Only that each might be able to "pass" a bit more easily as the other, with respect to height alone.

Thank goodness I am retired - I’ve worked in the civil service and local government so could easily have suffered one of these training sessions. I like to think that my feedback to the trainer and my employer after such a session would be that the training session made me feel unsafe, that I find the term cisgender offensive, that displaying the LGBT flag makes me feel unsafe as it is a political symbol and only reflects one viewpoint, and if they change to gender neutral toilets to make trans more comfortable they should provide single sex toilets so I can feel comfortable too.
