The content of a Spring 2023 Training Session provided by Mermaids to staff of a major UK Company (which I was able to view in its entirety) is further confirmation the scandal ridden 'charity' needs to be shut down permanently.
Here is an overview of the session (which took place online and was approximately an hour long), including slides shown to participants, and audio clips of the Mermaids Trainer who identifies as non-binary but is in fact a woman.
It is clear the ideology embedded into the organisation by former CEO Susie Green lives on.
MT = Mermaids Trainer
MT told participants that Mermaids was set up in 1995 by a group of parents who met in the Tavistock ‘waiting rooms’ - the closure of GIDS was not mentioned.
The slide detailing the aims of the organisation included logos for Equality and Human Rights Commission, Government Equalities Office, and Department for Education.
The colourful logo is for the LGBT+ Consortium which is supporting Mermaids in its attempt to strip LGB Alliance of Charitable Status. CEO Paul Roberts gave testimony in the court hearings which revealed he considers same sex attraction to be transphobic, and had only skim read the Cass Interim Report.
The Helpline was highlighted as the main service provided by Mermaids. According to MT, it had approximately 9,000 contacts in 2019 which 'shot up' to over 45,000 in 2021 and 'it is only going up by the thousands cause unfortunately it is not a very good time for the trans and non-binary community in the UK right now'.
Participants were told some non-binary people consider themselves transgender as they were not assigned non-binary at birth.
According to MT, Gender Dysphoria ‘can have a lot to do with feeling like you're in the wrong body' and that 'it can be quite distressing to live in the wrong body for a long time'.Â
Participants were told it's important for ‘cisgender’ people to state their pronouns to normalise it. MT declared that some neopronouns date back to the 1300s. In response to a later question, ‘it’ was confirmed by MT to be a neopronoun.
Being male or female was compared to a dimmer switch. MT stated 'your body itself is actually not always totally binary'. The presence of different levels of male and female hormones in people's bodies was used as evidence for sex not being binary.
Gender Identity was detailed alongside Biological Sex as if it is real and something everyone has. Participants were told it’s unrelated to attraction. This is despite Mermaids basing sexual orientation on Gender Identity and not Biological Sex.
Drag Queens were used to illustrate how Identity, Attraction, Sex, and Expression are separate - a cisgender man dressed up as a woman is still a man (but if he identifies as a woman, then he is a woman).
MT claimed there is a 'biological cause' for trans identities - it’s just not known yet.
Although, according to MT the 'cause of someone's gender identity or gender diversity ultimately shouldn't matter' because everybody should be celebrated.Â
Apparently trans and non-binary people face daily challenges.
Pink News was used as a source of information.
MT told participants that being able to medically transition can take over a decade and that 'is a very long time to live in the wrong body'. It was claimed this waiting period can result in people needing mental health support but finding a professional who 'understands the issues that trans and non-binary people go through is almost impossible'.
MT highlighted 'discriminatory legislation' - the Gender Recognition Act in Scotland was needed 'just to make it a little bit easier for trans people to self identify'.
Participants were told that trans people are more likely to be the victim of a violent crime.
They were also lectured on ‘microaggressions’ with ‘did you have the surgery’ an example on the slide.
Participants were then given a 'Content Warning' (with a slide literally saying that) and the opportunity to mute or leave the room as MT would be discussing self-harm and suicide.
This warning turned out to be in relation to ‘statistics’ from Stonewall.
MT shared a personal story (one of many) about how she didn't feel it was safe in her last job to 'come out' as non-binary.
Participants were told that using the name a trans young person chose reduces suicide attempts by 65%.
Other cultures were misrepresented to promote gender (identity) ideology. MT claimed 'many countries were forced into this binary gender system by colonialism by European countries'.
The lives of people who have died were also distorted.
Marsha P. Johnson for example is often referred to as a trans woman of colour by trans activists. Yet he is on video making it clear that he was a gay man who dressed in drag (he also did not start the Stonewall Riots).Â
MT informed participants that trans and non-binary people have been around for 'thousands of years' and there only seems to be more of them now because they feel comfortable in telling others.Â
Apparently these people are ‘Role Models And Trailblazers’ and 'someone for our young people to look up to'. Note the inclusion of Munroe Bergdorf who even Childline cut ties with - MT said ‘we love her here’.
Emma Watson who has publicly supported Mermaids in the past (even encouraging people to donate money) was highlighted as one of the ‘influential people’ who are allies. This is the photo of her which appeared in the presentation - ‘Trans Rights are Human Rights’ on her t-shirt.
Participants were told the Dos and Donts of being a good ally.
MT stated allyship was needed not just from individuals but 'companies and organisations and charities and politicians, we need to have all of these people on our side'.
TV series Butterfly (which Mermaids and Susie Green were involved with) was one of the recommendations for ‘More Learning’ - with others to be sent after the training.
The normal Pride/Rainbow flag (one for the LGB Community and same sex attraction) was excluded from a 'Visibility' slide. The non-binary, trans, progress pride, and allyship flags were included.
Dates were also listed for things such as Trans Day of Remembrance.
An 'Our Green Flags' slide displayed what Mermaids thinks companies should be doing to show they are a 'safe place' to work
MT highlighted how participants could get more involved with Mermaids which included how to donate money.
MT then moved on to a ‘Questions’ section. It included her speaking about the ‘Gender Critical Movement’. That and other audio clips, approximately five minutes in total (short pause between clips) can be heard below.
Mermaids is still under a statutory inquiry from the Charity Commission. Should you wish to bring anything of concern to their attention, details are here: https://www.gov.uk/complain-about-charity
The outcome of Mermaids attempt to strip LGB Alliance of charitable status has not yet been announced, however LGB Alliance is still fundraising to cover costs and can be supported here: https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/save-lgb-alliances-charity-sta/
Trans activists had my Twitter account (@_K_F_P_) permanently suspended in May. Thank you to everyone who has tweeted for my reinstatement.
Nothing at all to do with the workplace. None of it is relevant to people going to work to earn their living. Hope they get closed down and all the non job people pushing this bilge let go
What a load of old bollocks.
