I wonder if it's true that volunteers have walked out on Mermaids, and that's why the 'Helpline' hours were really changed.

I wonder what the level of “abuse” was and whether it was reported to the police?

Yup. I am not accepting their 'narrative' on that, purely because their actions and statements are so untrustworthy. Trust has been utterly broken and that's what happens when you lie constantly as they have been shown to have done.

My guess is they're going to blame the wrongs of the helpline advisers on the volunteers. "Oh one of our new volunteers wasn't fully aware of our guidelines but they've been retrained now and everything is fine. Nothing to see here, move along please"

It's always the initial excuse of 'it's a few bad apples' in organisations. Rarely that it's rotten from top to bottom or that's admitted. 'Training' is always blamed.

I worry that as you said, they will deflect all blame by saying it's 'volunteers'. When you see most of the TRAs in the NHS, civil service and charities they are actually on 'voluntary' groups or they 'volunteer advice'. They 'voluntarily' offer to rewrite guidance and policy. Hence the 'I am not an expert' defence they strangely all seem to be using as their defence. Even when in paid roles within the organisation.

I think the CPS one is offering 'advice' like this. When that was publicised they pushed the part-time, just a few hours and maybe non-remunerated aspect of it to get off the hook and dismiss his importance or influence. Move along, nothing to see here. There are many TRAs 'advising' police areas like this.

Is any of this doing any good? has there been any contrition yet? Sturgeon was on R4 responding to the GRA reforms…minimising risks. Amping up the ‘traumatic’ current process of speaking to a doctor about gender, whilst minimising the risks to women that bad faith self-IDing predatory men pose in women’s spaces. Apparently women have got enough to be afraid of from men. But trans-women aren’t to be afraid of. What a clown.

I'm a man, and it makes no difference if 'transwomen' pose no threats - they are men and have no business being in women's spaces etc., none whatsoever.

She's an idiot, even if she doesn't see actual transsexual women as a potential threat to women, refusing to consider that it's possible makes her unfit to function in any role that affects the public. She's a liar, and she's prepared to put women in danger to appease misogynistic bullies and deluded narcissistic 'academics', who don't have to work to pass themselves off as this. It's the status they're willingly given by misogynist institutions that, after having a pat on the head from Stonewall, want to be ignored.

Sturgeon, like every other person trying to enforce gender identity based authoritarianism everywhere there is a space, is aware that self ID creates endless opportunities for male predators who, other than for the purposes of abusing, don't consider, or want to consider themselves anything other than male.

Every woman who becomes the victim of abuse, and every woman who could be, which is virtually all women, must eventually see her brought down so decisively she has no hope of rising ever again. She, and every malicious bastard being helped to turn their woman hating fantasy into reality. I hope there isn't a single name that's forgotten, in Scotland or anywhere else.

Imelda "feminist to my fingertips" Sturgeon, in common with the rest of the blue tick Aunt Lydias, will never be troubled by trans-identifying men in High Street changing rooms, in DV shelters or in NHS women's wards. They're protected by their wealth & privilege & clearly don't give a fk about the rest of us. Sturgeon's feminism is as fake as her nationalism.

Good question on the "contrition". But - not sure if this has been discussed here or not - Helen Joyce had a couple of tweets on the 4th that suggests that some of the "usual suspects" are starting to feel a bit hot under the collar:

Both the LSE Department of Gender Studies - which Breslow seems to have been part of - and the Open University have apparently deleted these open letters calling for restrictions of "gender critical feminism" but they had been archived; list of signatories in the OU one:

Neil Gaiman seems to think he is some sort people's voice lately. He seems to see it as his duty to comment and hold judgement against those he deems to be "in the wrong" from his lofty high horse. Like Billy Bragg, he is chugging down his own Kool Aid at the rate of knots, secure in his own conviction that he is right and virtuous, fueled by his adoring fans who jump to defend everything he says and touches as if it some kind of divine gospel. I find people who hold themselves up as a paragon of virtue very worrying. I strongly suspect it's all to do with their ego and nothing to do with being "kind" or "right" or "virtuous". Those are just tools to gain more adoration.

As for Ben Cohen - "As a trusteeof a charity...I've seen first-hand the difference great charities can make..." I find this statement quite telling. LGB Alliance is a great charity and they can make a huge difference so perhaps that is why he was giving money to a corrupt charity to take them down. As I've said many times, these people know exactly what they are part of and what they are doing. Some of them are fools who can;t see past the "be kind" BS and don't do their due diligence, but I susepct that people like him know what they are doing.

Another one of Jacob Breslow's favoured 'themes'. 'Ambivalency' is a theme in Mental Health, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy and seems to have been pounced on by the QT brigade. They fling terms about, pontificate, make new words up, that becomes a whole new 'area of enquiry' and to disrupt and counter a previous theory gets you gold stars and the best of brownie points. Theory, theory, theory, meanwhile back at the ranch men are live-streaming castrations to 'support the rights' of 'eunuch identities' and other abuses.

Again the diagnostic manuals seem more and more subject to whatever whim any lobby group with its own fetish have pushed for. So remove 'fetish' and job done! There really is no wrong or right, it's whoever has the most charming or supposedly sophisticated 'argument'. All inclusion, no labelling or stigma allowed.

Children who are abused often have mixed, or unformed, nuanced, changing and changeable, confused or confusing, hard to express or unresolved feelings and thoughts towards those that abuse them, often mixed with shame as they are trained to believe things, are coerced, manipulated, cannot speak up, reframe that or their body and bodily responses in their own minds in order to survive and it's often caregivers who are doing the abuse. So no, Jacob, stop this 'Ambivalent Childhoods' discourse.

This relates to who in the media is supporting this viewpoint and pushing it - no direct mention of Mermaids.

If you've not, listen to Radio 4 Woman's Hour from this morning. There was a heavy emphasis on hate crime stats recently released by the Home Office. It's all about 'narratives' which I am becoming allergic to as they take some information or data, then weave a 'story' from this. The people they interviewed 'explained' the results. One didn't agree with the 'narrative' of the one before of course. Intersectionality was mentioned and briefly race and lesbians got a mention. So did gay men, homophobia and Stephen Port. But it was 'homophobia and transphobia'. Some discussion of numbers, rates and increase. But the main focus appeared to be transphobia and why (the causes).

'90% of LGBTQ hate crime apparently doesn't get reported' (so this is how anyone can then state the hidden iceberg genocide reality to suit their narrative). Apparently with transphobic hate there has been an escalation because of unregulated blah and this has permitted a 'consistent public narrative' for that minoritized group. I'm guessing that's a reference to social media and Substacks like this. Presumably JKR. Sure, the 'narrative' seems 'everybody's transphobic' but what about TRA hate crime and violence towards women and men who disagree? That's online and physical violence and intimidation offline. It gave the impression it's the victims of 'trans' hate crime being trans rather than being the perpetrators. How many instances of women and lesbians reporting harassment to the police?

And why? Apparently it's because this is all more ‘visible’. I think this is rather naive of Woman's Hour - it barely mentioned the female sex, oh but in passing some figures sounded like 4000 complaints about 'trans' hate crime and 26,000 for hate crime against lesbians. Is that murder or 'misgendering'? Is that one report by one person claiming 'trans hate' and who was the perpetrator. I think hate crime about the protected characteristic of race was top, and relatively stable, and I'll look at the HO stats but the BBC and Woman's Hour have dropped the ball yet again on this.

This is why I stopped listening to WH. They stopped caring about the female sex a while ago.

I do wonder if Tatchell, with his implicit support for transing-the-gay is tending towards the view that Robert Mugabe was right.

The likes of Ben Cohen are quite explicit in their support for transing-the-gay and they know that LGB Alliance campaigns principally to oppose transing-the-gay. Hence why he and others support Mermaids efforts to shut LGBA up; Mermaids needs access to adolescent gay and lesbian’s bodies, and LGB Alliance interferes with that access. Cohen and his ilk regard preventing transing-the-gay as bigoted and trying to protect LGB adolescents as a hate crime.

Tatchells not quite slipped into the same mode as Cohen, in seeing LGB adolescents as ‘fair game’ for being rendered impotent, medicalised-for-life and chopped-up by surgery, but he’s on that path.

I should have added that I've met him a couple of times, very briefly when he came to my place of work to say his extremely rambling bit. He was challenged on several things but wouldn't respond, other than once when he was asked about the now very well known piece he wrote presenting paedophilic sexual and physical abuse as culturally and psychologically healthy for the abused children. He got quite angry and tried to disassociate himself from what he'd written.

He wasn't prepared to discussd it further, and later pretended to be asleep. Then 'woke up', stood up, said he was tired and didn't feel well and left. It was extraordinary.
