I've just got back from LWDBrighton and the standing ovation for Rosie brought a lump to my throat. Fantastic evening full of fantastic women.

If “trans people have always existed” why are they only now so fucking pissed off that women exist?

Expand full comment

Also, if they “existed before cis people”, were they hatched? Did they roam before the dinosaurs? Or were they brought to our planet by aliens?? Really need to know.

Just goes to show how utterly ridiculous their " arguments " are. Completely without logic or foundation !!

haha that's funny...I think trans people are hatched.

Well there are what they call "eggs" who get "hatched" by existing trans.

Not "grooming" though, never call it that 🙄

I'm assuming that's an offhand comment. If not, and 'we' start saying that 'trans people don't exist' - then we lose the argument - and the support of the vanishingly small (0.03% or less) number of genuine trans folk, and a huge number of lesbian, gay, and bi people.

One of the reasons I signed up is because I kept hearing Graham, Helen, and Arty differentiate between genuine trans folk and the misogynistic and toxic trans ideology that wants women back in the kitchen, real science and medicine replaced by pseudoscience and magical thinking, and reality replaced by fantasy.

The fact that any fully transitioned trans person who speaks out against that ideology is immediately labelled 'transphobic' and worse by those ideologists, incels, and logically challenged fantasists proves the point.

I’m not saying they don’t exist, of course they do, I’m saying the argument that “trans people have always existed, get over it” type of thing by the TRA’s isn’t any justification for stripping women of their rights and sex because women too have always existed and this trans misogyny wasn’t a problem then. So why just now do they want women to disappear? Or is it something else entirely and not trans rights at all, but the erasure of women…

Understood Lyndsey, and thanks for the clarification (and I mean that !). There's no doubt I'm becoming increasingly concerned by the number of comments I'm seeing - in particular in MSM 'Comments' pages - that while effectively supporting our position, play right into the hands of the very loud and aggressive trans ideologists by then ranting about 'pervs', 'sickos', 'deviants', and more when referencing the entire LGB ..... T (that's an attempt to distance 'T' from the others because they are very different) community.

This kind of stuff has been mentioned a lot by Graham, Arty, Helen, and guests, with Arty in particular reminding us what those same hate-filled eejits called gays and lesbians back in the 60's, 70's, and into the 80's.

I remember those days all too well.

As we know, much of that hate-filled rhetoric stems from ignorance, and when I challenge that ignorance I keep reminding myself that I'm not actually speaking to the commentor, but to those who are quietly following the thread and saying nothing.

I doubt if we'll change the minds of 'front line' TRAs - the one's who sit waiting to be told who to attack, to smear, threaten, defame, or ridicule. They're a lost cause, and if the trans situation wasn't attracting as much attention, I suspect most/many of them would have found another 'cause' to channel their hate into.

But that silent majority needs to hear the reality, and that means factual evidence supported by a barrowload of common sense, critical thinking, and things like 'The Staniland Question'.

Lyndsey is right in what she wrote. She was highlighting their lack of logic. Where has all this come from? This inability to talk and listen, without threats and nasty attacks on women and gay people. Anyone who disagrees. Calling anyone who disagrees or dares to question a bigot. And Eric24A, assume away, but trans means anything anyone wants it to now. This is the fundamental issue with self-ID and blurring everything and identities. Who determines who is 'genuine'? There is outrage that you may need to follow a process, outrage that your mental health may be considered, outrage that you have to wait, outrage that you can't make lifelong decisions the moment you choose to identify, outrage that anyone may think differently and the leap to assume it's your rights being 'denied'. For children as young as 12? How do you determine it's 0.03%? Random stats are quoted and this demand for hugely disproportionate 'rights' to access spaces and rights that have been enshrined in law. Such as 'because 90% will commit suicide if we don't act', that kind up made-up stat. Because this new activism demands women's boundaries be removed and in the name of inclusivity they can remove our categories and reshape them to their desires. And we get no say. This ludicrous argument about who is the most vulnerable in society.

This small group of vicious activists are attacking many people and have been getting emboldened to over many years. This is what I believe Lyndsey was highlighting? Please don't police her ability to comment here.

Expand full comment

Thank you, it was what I was highlighting, like you say who is a "genuine trans" the spectrum is so far ranging and unclear, a cross dresser? a man who wears women's clothes a couple of days a week? a bearded bloke who just says he's a woman? and why is the existence of women and even the word woman now so offensive it has to be erased? why now? why not before? Seems to me anyone can be a woman except an actual woman now!

Expand full comment

Well my reasoning was that I am heartsick of being tone-policed and was saddened to see a male commenter do this to you here. I am fairly incapable of walking by this now, if ever. Here!? Of all places. I don't really care if you are a woman, or what sex you are.

How could I detect the sex of the person commenting and on your style of comment? That telling-off tone? It's the same old, same old. So I pray to the ether, Men, please just stop patronising women. Don't blame generational attitudes or anything else. Try listening and not assuming you are the fountain of all knowledge.

TSBBT : I appreciate all that, and if you'd seen what I've been posting/saying for the last three years you'd know that. I spent much of last week with my head buried in 'Gender Dysphoria - Social Anxiety Disorder' research papers.

I think there were around 50 listed, and most related to folk who had had a formal diagnosis of GD.

'Self ID' was referred to quite a lot, with most researchers effectively dismissing that particular group because as well as evading/avoiding genuine psychological diagnosis, support, and advice - their co-morbidities (depression, ADHD, self harm, body dysmorphia, anorexia, etc) hadn't been addressed either.

That's why the Swedish government stopped it's 'self ID' system in 2019 - the massive increase of young women and girls suddenly identifying as male, and the factual evidence showing the reasons being presented by the Swedish media and people like us to the government.

A series of documentaries ( 'The Trans Train' - available via Youtube) were made, and it looks like they 'woke up' Sweden to the situation.

I and a group of like-minded friends also dug down into the stats you refer to (something no politician or media outlet has ever done), and it was fairly easy to completely debunk the claims.

Women's groups have done the same thing, but on at least one occasion went further and contacted the academic researcher responsible for one study.

He was shocked and angry at the way his genuine research had been cherrypicked, twisted, rewritten, 'edited', and lied about.

Once again our media ignored what should have been a front page/lead item story that would have been the catalyst for more factual reporting, basic fact checking, critical thinking - the things the media and political establishment haven't bothered to do so far.

On the questions of 'How did we get here ?' and 'Where did it start ?' - it's confusing.

However, although he's a bit 'Marmite', Benjamin A Boyce and his 'The Complete Story Of Evergreen' provides answers.

Evergreen State College is only one of a number of US universities and colleges responsible - at least in part - for today's situation.

The introduction of 'Gender Studies' courses seems to have evolved from 'Critical Race Theory' ones, and 'Wokism' is the common denominator.

Helen Pluckrose is one of a number of academics who have dared to research, publish, and then debate, discuss, lecture, and write about the gender ideology, wokism, cancel culture, and more.

Some of those debates and lectures are also on Youtube, and for various reason I find listening easier than reading these days.

But perhaps the best pace to find the answers is Helen Joyce's 'TRANS - When Ideology Meets Reality', closely followed by Abigail Shrier's ' Irreversible Damage - Teenage Girls and the Transgenger Craze '.

As a father of two fiesty daughters, and the grandfather of another potential fiesty woman-to-be, I found the latter especially interesting .... and disturbing.

Thanks for responding but I feel you are missing something here and I find you fairly patronising Eric24A. I too read a fair bit. I have spent a few decades considering this.

It appears you misread a comment, and then tone-policed Lyndsey and felt the need to tell her so. This happens far too much online and in public discourse. It is a very male behaviour and I realise you may be unaware or disagree with my assessment.

I was asking the questions you have answered in a rhetorical manner, but thank you for putting so much effort into your response and telling me where to find my answers. And for the unasked for brief history of recent feminism. Do you really think I am so unaware? No, I haven't been following you or your output for three years - it was the manner in which you critiqued another commenter that I found typical of a certain kind of man. Misogynistic and imbued with it. And this really isn't the place for any man to be telling women what kind of comments we should be making here. I don't care how many or how feisty the female members of your family are.

I'm sure Helen and Abigail will be delighted that you are recommending their books.

If that's what you think about me then I apologise for not checking what I'd written.

Or the way it was written.

I'll try and clarify.

Most of my friends are women, and for some reason it's been like that since I was a teenager when I caused a stooshie in my Modern Studies class for stating the the world would be a safer and probably better place if women had parity in government, business etc.

As far as I was concerned, the evidence was (and is) overwhelming. All my working life I witnessed sexism and misogyny, homophobia, racism, and sectarianism from the 'inside'. It obviously sounds naff, but it made me who I am.

I realised very early that to challenge the status quo I had to know more - basically the facts - than the opposition.

I suppose I effectively became some kind of nerd, and that doesn't make me better than anyone else - it simply means that I was willing to spend time tracking down the sources of 'Stonewall-type facts' and challenging them with genuine facts.

I find your claim that I 'signed up' three years ago disingenuous. That was when a group of us got together and started campaigning against what was happening/was going to happen in Scotland.

I've actually been campaigning for equal/civil/human rights since the 60's when I took part in anti-apartheid demos in Scotland.

Gay/lesbian rights, equal rights for women, refugees, and more. It's actually been over 50 years.

I'd give you more details but I doubt if you'd believe me.

That wee group was, and still is, 5 women and 2 men. Two of the women have been my best friends for many years.

Three years ago the submissions relating to the first consultation were due to be released. I mentioned this to my two best friends when they were here one day, and it turned out they'd been following events on Twitter, and a decision was made to study those submissions.

What we discovered was more than disturbing.

We decided to write a submission to the second ScotGov GRA Consultation (Graham has the details). and I was asked to do what I usually do - fact check and research - something I'd done in an unofficial capacity for one of our female politicians for almost decade.

The others had jobs, young families, and partners - I'm single, live alone, am effectively housebound, and my daughters live two hours drive away.

I therefore had all the time needed to do what I'd been tasked to do.

It took us a year to complete the submission (I think I sent Graham a copy), although it the end it was rushed because we were still uncovering information right up to the deadline.

We all use that information, and a Helluva lot more we didn't have time to use/check, when trying to inform others what's actually going on.

We share it, and it's constantly being updated.

That's the only reason I write the way I write.

You and others are very aware, but most people are still clueless - and that's something we, plus Graham and the others - and you - are trying to change.

As I said earlier, those who are quietly reading what we and others are writing or saying are crucial, especially up here.

Scotland is sprinting towards the edge of a very steep cliff, and we have around 6 months to either slow that down or stop it.

The 'ScotGov' advice being used in Scottish schools is shocking - and will lead to thousands of young people (mostly young women and girls) self-identifying as 'trans', and as soon as those young people self-ID - they will have 'transitioned' (according to the advice).

We all know where that will lead, but that's what happens when a government asks the Scottish Trans Alliance, Stonewall Scotland, TRA civil servants, and 'captured' politicians to create something meant to advise - but is effectively grooming.

I'm not going to respond to your other allegations.

But it's obvious I'm not welcome here so I'll take my leave.

I'm the 'wrong type' of supporter/ally.

Sorry Graham, but good luck. I might bump into you at the next Marion Millar/Holyrood event as we're hoping to be there.

I wasted hours of my life responding to Peter Jukes - the only heartening response was from David Merritt - the remainder were mostly self-congratulory men, mansplaining that no-one would bother to go to all the trouble of pretending to be a woman and asking for evidence. I gave them evidence, apparently they were just bad people and it would have happened anyway. In reality I think a few of them didn't really know the extent of it e.g prisons but then pretended they did because heaven forfend a man might have been wrong. Anyway the thread is still lighting up the twittersphere and the wonderful Terven armies came to support me including @FondofBeetles. Not quite enough for them to have an actual developmental biologist (with her own cervix) explaining that sex is binary and immutable but obviously totally convinced by some quackery from Scientific American cited by LisaTMullin (no cervix, does have prostate).

Anyway the good news is I've cancelled my Byline Times subs and will happily increase my subs to Glinner to reflect that. Every cloud!

I think Jukes is a good guy and Byline Times does a lot of good work. I hadn’t seen anything from Jukes on this topic before this, and I think he just has a poor understanding of the issue, as many do (including me before I subscribed and started watching The Mess We’re In). Jukes says he has women friends on opposite sides of the debate and I can well believe that.

It's not the fact of what he said on there, it's more that he's promoting fake science around DSDs to prove sex isn't binary whilst disregarding an actual developmental biologist. If he's prepared to share fake science on twitter I'm not sure I can believe anything else.

I have occasionally spoken with those who have come from professional roles and then become politicians and on a cross-bench basis. They walk the walk, and some have then returned to their previous careers after deciding they couldn't achieve what they could in their day jobs. They had a real insight and specific frustration at how people can pontificate about things they know nothing about, move from brief to brief with only a cursory understanding, or even ability, somehow 'advise' and make a very good living doing so. For those from professions, like health, where there is a vocation, this had been particularly tough. If you can't beat 'em join 'em, but also try to change the system from within.

What will David Lammy do when we start hoarding votes? And then giving them to anyone but Labour? Or does an 80 seat majority suggest that's already happened. Votes, rights, rapes, murders, we hoard them all don't we David? Us silly women dinosaurs with our big tails and unusual armour plated exteriors. Do we breathe fire too, or is that dragons? I read last year that Queens Belfast were second only to Oxford for students seeking to change/lie about their sex on official university documents. We tend to hit trends a little later here, traditionally because we've had our own green and blue shite to occupy us, but transgenerdism in NI is now quite rife. You will find people like PC Plop and other trans activists over here, are predominately males under 30ish who are desperately looking for a bogie man to fight, having grown up in the aftermath of the troubles. Sadly, having no actual cause or struggle to latch onto, they have chosen to die on the glitter Hill and are desperate to make an equivalence with our civil rights movement.

That's interesting. The punk movement really took off in NI, perhaps because kids had their own sub culture that didn't involve sectarian shite. It's a shame that musicians have been replaced with talentless twats with pink hair (or green or blue!!!).

You're right, I remember an old rocker friend of mine who said that street lockdowns and restrictions on night clubbing meant that house parties were the norm in the 70s and 80s, more so than other parts of the Isles, and a lot of the punk movement came from cross community parting in the face of those restrictions. Perhaps recent trends of isolating and staying home alone or in small bubbles are contributing to what seems like an almost anti renaissance. Too much navel gazing, not enough sticking it to authority.

It was upsetting. I have been mulling this over and reading and listening again to various MP's statements. In particular his opinion that "women who want to keep their hard-won rights should be extinct"? Extinct? I think this is remarkably incendiary and incautious for a serving politician. We have daily reports of individual women becoming 'extinct'. Where is their sensitivity?

I had previously admired his passion, and willingness to be seen to be angry and even disgusted about causes he cared about when standing up in the House. I agreed with many of his statements. But this? He doesn't need to worry - the rate we're being killed he might get his wish. I wonder if and how he has tried to work out the probability he will get to his destination in one piece. I was reading about the redevelopment and uplift of land around stations yesterday - and the new flats being built everywhere. Kidbrooke, London. Sound familiar? It was where a vigil for Sabrina was held and she lived in one of those newer flats.
