Share please!!! I would add that staff be selected to work on the basis that huty feelz, imagined threats, are not part of the cancellation and that security staff know they are to protect the performers and audience, not the hurty feelz brigade, sorry this sounds a bit childish but in light of tweets I've seen the tras seem to think that they should be part of the staff wearing not staff t shirts but trans violent t shirts in a bid to intimidate audiences and performers
Staff aren't even paid half the time, or they're made to work more hours than they signed up for, or they're put in unsafe conditions or told to break fire regs. There's been labour disputes every year with the corporations that run the shows, and it's always been pretty grim. But now they say they care about their staff when their gender feelings are hurt? Nah, it's just a cheap and easy way to virtue signal and appeal to the posh kiddies who can afford to volunteer a bit without doing anything concrete to help the workers.
Agreed, the sad part is the hurty feelz think they can dictate and that is the thin edge of the wedge. Just because you do not agree with what's being said kids does not give you the right to dictate, not only NO but HELL NO, the adults are in the room and mommy is calling you fo dinner
A 51-page "Note" by Aidan Knowles KC for Joanna Cherry is an education in case law on equality and discrimination. It's apparently what made The Stand comedy club cave in and decide to host Cherry after all, as it made clear (even to me) that they couldn't possibly win a court case as defendants. The only real issue was how to assess damages.
Yes. I agree. There could be legal consequences from using ChatGPT for proposed legal clauses. ChatGPT has been described as "stochastic scraping" of the internet. "Stochastic" means "random".
I’m sighing writing this but I can’t agree , she should have ditched the snp a long time ago , she had death and rape threats and they did nothing to back her . I can’t understand her staying in such a vile party
I know exactly what you mean! But all the parliamentary parties are guilty of similarly vile conduct as SNP. Not apologising for any of them, but can't think of any failures to hold against JC.
I know but I just can’t understand her staying with a party that do nothing against this and she’s not exactly been vocal about it (maybe she can’t , who knows )
She’s a very intelligent woman so I’m sure she knows what’s what
I believe she's stuck with the SNP (despite profound lack of support re: abuse from within & without) because of high conviction belief in independence + aiming to change SNP from within. She took a couple of years out from front line politics, and only returned fairly recently. Perhaps that explains perception of her keeping low profile?
The Fringe has been pretty shit for workers (including performers) for ages now. Almost nobody makes money off it, it's an expense to network and to promote wider tours and merch and whatever else is actually profitable. I'm not just bitter because I live here either, I played it once in an improv troupe ten years ago and while we did have a blast and learnt a lot, things were tough even then, we heard lots of horror stories from other acts and from bar staff.
When venue staff have been working tirelessly for years to get decent hours and union recognition, and fought bosses stealing or cutting their wages (see Underbelly for just one example of terrible behaviour, but loads are at it), and these posh wokelords immediately get their way regarding censoring acts as soon as they say they don't "feel safe", that just shows how this gender shite is driven by the rich and privileged and isn't an actual grassroots liberation movement. All of a sudden, venues care about their staff's wellbeing? I don't believe it for a second.
Agree with that. Mary Bourke, Alexei Sayle and Daniel Sloss are about the only good acts I've seen in the last 5-10 years (but they were so, so good, Lex is still the king ❤️ they wouldn't let him on TV if he was starting out these days, alas). It's like panning for gold in a sewer looking for good stuff, on top of all the (actual, material) mistreatment of the workers.
Great idea! How about adding a section that says "the suicide narrative" will not be repeated by the venue, in response to criticisms of material in the performance? Here's a sensible analysis of the use of the suicide narrative by TRAs as emotional blackmail:
1. In the event that a controversy arises surrounding the Performer's show ("the Event"), the Venue acknowledges and agrees to take reasonable measures to ensure that the Event proceeds as scheduled, without cancellation or interruption due solely to such controversy.
2. The Venue shall not unilaterally cancel or terminate the Event based on controversy arising from the content, subject matter, or public perception of the Performer's show, unless the Venue reasonably determines that the controversy poses a significant risk to public safety or violates applicable laws or regulations.
3. Prior to any cancellation or termination, the Venue shall promptly notify the Performer in writing of the specific nature of the controversy and the reasons for considering cancellation. The Performer shall be given a reasonable opportunity to address the concerns raised and propose alternative solutions to mitigate any potential negative impact.
4. If the Venue decides to cancel or terminate the Event due to controversy, the Venue shall provide written notice to the Performer as soon as reasonably practicable. In such cases, the Venue shall reimburse the Performer for any reasonable and documented expenses incurred in preparation for the Event, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, marketing, and production costs.
5. The Venue acknowledges that the Performer's reputation and professional standing may be adversely affected by a cancellation or termination resulting from controversy. Therefore, in the event of a wrongful cancellation or termination that does not meet the conditions outlined in this clause, the Venue agrees to compensate the Performer for any direct damages incurred, including but not limited to lost income, reputational harm, and legal fees.
6. This Controversial Event Protection clause shall survive the termination or expiration of this contract and remain enforceable.

Be prepared for potential consequences: While it's important to be honest about your beliefs, it's also important to be prepared for potential consequences. Your boss may not agree with your views, and this could impact your working relationship or even your Job security

Graham, would you up for a wee bit of correspondence? What happened to you, happened to me several years ago. I've not really got over it. Lost my livelihood, friends, professional reputation. It's the isolation and shame that massacres your self-esteem. I understand if not, its just that nobody understands unless it's happened to them (God Forbid). Besides that, please take care of yourself, this kind of stress makes us very fragile. Dia dhaoibh
Aidan Knowles KC prepared a (fascinating) 51-page "Note" for Joanna Cherry to educate The Stand on equality and discrimination case law: and the various approaches to assessing damages. They crumbled immediately.

And you'll shut up and eat it like a good boy.

I’m sighing writing this but I can’t agree , she should have ditched the snp a long time ago , she had death and rape threats and they did nothing to back her . I can’t understand her staying in such a vile party
Only my opinion

Bless her , I’m not hugely political but if she believes the snp are after independence then I have a bridge to sell her
Should have said a motor home 😂
Can we agree on "should be after indie" :-D

The fringe used to be excellent, funny , very very rude and obnoxious but for about the last ten years it’s been shit , not funny at all
Am I wrong in thinking that acts actually have to pay to perform ?
Agree with that. I always enjoyed forth on the fringe , wee ten minute shots of the best on offer so you could choose who’s full shows to go and see
Now you couldn’t pay me to go see any of them
Sickening
Funniest ones always came over to Carnegie hall , I can’t remember his name ( old age is shit ) but he came in on y fronts on a ball , ala myley Cyrus
"The busines owner ackowledges they are a member of the phylum with spines, rather than a jelyfish"
Interesting.
Hope all is well with you, Graham.

Do you recognize that the emotional blackmail of the "trans suicide narrative" is the false justification for child genital mutilation?
There are non-disclosure stipulations all the time.

I don't think it's needed. UK law is clear and Netflix's approach worked well enough - put up with what they show or leave
Great stuff!
