My daughter has difficulty looking me in the eye at the moment because my best friends, people she has known all her life, people that love her, are lesbians and she can't seem to answer the question as to why they are now to be considered 'terfs' because they are continuing to fight for womens rights in the same why they have always done, in the same why she has always known them to.

The figurative last fuse in my head blew upon learning of the nice gay man being robbed and set upon by the angry, slur-yelling GAY PRIDE mob because they didn’t like his t-shirt.

So, now I’ll tell you a true story. Decades ago, when I majored in “Women’s Studies”, some foolish, rebellious young man would inevitably enroll in a WS class and behave in a disruptive manner. The professor and students would speak to him calmly and rationally. We all hoped the males would remain in the classes and actually learn something (they rarely did so). These guys were usually fraternity pledges fulfilling a “task”, or defiant beta-type guys looking to argue or they incorrectly assumed they could breeze through an “easy course” to fulfill an academic requirement. I clearly remember, in one course, Women In History, a guy yelling “But this ‘Herstory’ crap is just your side”. Anyway, I think you catch my drift… that you’re absolutely correct & I refuse to use the term “both sides”. Women, children, lesbians, gays and bisexuals are being targeted, abused, terrorized and/or erased for existing & for not being adoring cheerleading fans of the T-orists. LGB needs to exit the alphabet soup & stand united with women and their allies, without ANY worries of Being Kind. We can do this. #LGBrexit

I hope your fuse has been replaced. Fellow Women's Studies optional module alumna here. Absobloodylutely! We had much discussion on whether the youngish man teaching ours had any legitimacy to do so (UK 00s).

We had a Prof in another module (politics I think) ask us if any of us had noticed the difference in how the workshop groups in the first half, then second half of that semester had been organised? Yes we had. Would we like to know why? He had looked at results after the first half (single sex), then rejigged our groups (to mixed). As it turned out men's results were better in mixed groups and women had done better in single sex groups (as I had been mainly schooled at a girls' school up until that point I knew the theories behind this). So he'd unilaterally changed it for the rest of the year, without our knowledge, to mix us up, to 'make it fairer on the boys'. Yup, so the loud gobby ones got to dominate with their showy offy spurious nonsense and we had to fight to get our voices heard. Thanks Prof.

post 16 girls/young women should be allowed to choose single sex schooling without having to pay for the privilege (at least in uk where aged 16-19 education should be free), because girls are more likely to be academically competitive, and less likely to go around smashing stuff up or setting stuff on fire. (boys do seem to become disruptive when they cant do the home/work).

Expand full comment

Agreed. I don't like the UK school system, but I've been hammered by privileged well-meaning yet intolerant liberals from nice, safe homes ever since (including leftie liberal partners) and am conflicted about this topic. My school from 11+ was my only safe space, they cared, and they safeguarded me from the violence at home. So my view of my schooling is skewed. It was my mother's choice to send me there, and I had bursaries or scholarships depending on which reduced fees the most. I was angry at being sent there initially as I was doing well at, and enjoyed, my mixed sex school.

I had a fairly robust education - and lucky to have some utterly wonderful and inspiring teachers in most of my schools. I have never considered that I'm lesser because of my sex, and the misogynist claptrap I then had to face as an adult in my career was fairly constant but never something I thought I should or had to accept.

It's been strange watching the talking heads constantly panicking that women are doing so, and 'too' well academically 'now' and how we can tweak the algorithms to 'rebalance' it back in the favour of boys and men. Same old, same old. Now, where are my blue stockings...

It is clear that those who are on the side of reason have no need to resort to ad hominem insult and violent threats, for those are the default weapons of the intellectually challenged and the feckless. They cannot win a debate and so instead they proffer fists and insults. This will in the long run end in some useless eater on that side taking the steroid-fuelled opprobrium of the trans-lunatics seriously and actually causing someone real physical harm. This is what concerns me. The trans cult is full of religious fanatics, and religious fanaticism always, but always, ends in tears.

I can't use the terms 'transwoman/transwomen' anymore. They are all men, all male, every single one of them, and no matter how sweet they are, how girly they've made themselves look, they are still males. Any use of the word 'woman/women' belong only to women, to those of us born female. If men prefer to pretend they're women, live as if they are, because it makes them feel more comfortable, for whatever reason, so be it...but our words belong to us, and to us alone. I will no longer use the terms of Transworld. Same goes for women who pretend they're men. They're women. Choosing to live as if you were the opposite sex must never give a person the rights of that sex, for they do not belong in that sex. Sorry to sound harsh, but I'm there now. Women have had such terrible disrespect thrown at them.... No longer. xx

Expand full comment

Yep, I can't use the thought-limiting jargon terms, either. They spread and reinforce false beliefs, often damaging, sometimes profoundly so.

'He's transsexual' seems more appropriate most of the time, an accurate male pronoun plus a descriptor noun indictating that he presents himself in some way unspecified AS IF he were the opposite sex from what he in fact is. And according to his personal interpretation of how that might be signalled. (For some reason it's never a butch woman with a buzzcut, no makeup and cargo shorts.)

In less accommodating, annoyed mode I might say he's a man in womanface.

Expand full comment

Your last sentence, yes, absolutely.

Back in the 70s though loads of male popstars wore make-up, but they never pretended they were women, never disrespected women by demanding our rights, etc. Live as you choose to live, but never disrespect the sex to which you do not belong, and this affects we women WAY more than men. We have every right to feel bloody angry about all of this appalling behaviour towards us. Every part of it is absolutely shocking and horrific, in its' vile and evil misogyny.

Transworld has brought this upon itself. Sadly, the few quiet, shy trans folks who just want to live their lives in peace, NOT intruding upon women, not demanding any changes to our single sex spaces, our language, our sports, etc, hating what is being done in their 'name', will be The Innocents caught up in this vile war against women...

And this morning I saw that advert, the one for Pantene, which has that bloke in it, pretending to be a woman. Makes my blood boil...I refuse to buy any product which disrespects women by using men who pretend they're women (for that's ALL men can do, same with women who pretend they're men)

It's not just men pushing this war upon us though, for women like Mhairi Black, Nicola Sturgeon and Freddy The Seahorse are wanting all of this to happen to us too.

Freddy The Seahorse has been endlessly interviewed, mostly on ITV, pushing her demands that she be called the father of her son, that the language to describe women be changed into the nonsensical and detached form of 'uterus owners/cervix havers/pregnant people, etc...and has caused huge confusion, especially amongst younger generations, I think, but, perhaps also anger, amongst those of us who have not donated our brains to medical science, whilst we're still living.

Of course, when Freddy can't get her own way on her views, she sulks and puts out tweets of how The Bullies (we're always 'bullies', please note) are being so mean and nasty, so non-inclusive, whilst she carries on trying to remove the language of women, and turn us all into her version of Non-Women, so she doesn't have to ever remember that she's er......erm....a WOMAN.

HAD someone/everyone told Freddy that she was female, just an ordinary female who became pregnant, purely due to being born female, refusing to go along with her delusion of being male, refusing to make a film of utter lies about her being 'The Dad Who Gave Birth'...(oh, purleeeeeeze!) then, perhaps, we'd not be in this State Of Insanity.

Harrop told me, back on Twitter, a long time ago, when I dared to say that Freddy was female, that I was being 'cruel'. I responded that the cruelty lay in the hands of those feeding the delusions of some very confused people, who often have all sorts of mental health conditions, and that only TRUTH keeps them inside reality, no matter how much they may not want to hear that Truth.

Hard to do, I know, when children/young people are being led down the path of threatening to kill themselves if parents/doctors do NOT give them everything they want, including puberty blockers/cross sex hormones, etc.

This has become so mentally deranged now, because, in my humble opinion, it's been driven by many mentally deranged folks sitting at their computers causing havoc and chaos, uniting around the world to push this $£$Billion Industry that is now causing so very much harm and hurt, as The Cult grows ever bigger.

I sincerely hope that the 3,000 medical professionals now about to sue Biden over his Trans Demands upon them, succeed, for this will start to blow The Cult apart, as will the legal cases brought in by the NoWinNoFee lawyers too, whom I've always despised, as they take nearly all $£compo from claimants, but at least they might be able to stop this madness....and save so many future children from such horrors.

Sorry to ramble, don't have The Precis Gene. (gentle smile)

Sorry so late to reply! I started one (it was not short.... yours inspired several responses, plus entering into the spirit of enjoying your lack of The Precis Gene) but it seems to have disappeared.

I agree completely.

Can't replicate what I wrote, but to jot some

Yes, my blood boils so often, at so much harm being done.

Freddy, the mother who denies her femaleness and her motherhood! Stupendously selfish, her delusional insistence harms women, girls and surely her own child to whom she must deny the truth of being his mother, FFS. And The Guardian gave her a megaphone with which to broadcast her damage-spreading delusions, to demand that others obey, to convey to Guardian-consuming, impressionable youth that there can be such a thing as a woman who turns into a man while also having a baby but not being its mother. I wonder how many are trying to follow her?

Harrop and Freddy: DARVO comes to mind.

YES to the cruelty of those feeding the vulnerable, telling them lies. Sinead Watson had strong words on Twitter a couple of weeks ago about LYING to young people in this way, how wrong it is because they will believe it and well and truly mess up their bodies and lives, trying to embody lies. As you say, only TRUTH keeps them inside reality. Yet no one is supposed to whisper the truths about trans.

And yes, hopeful news of that lawsuit brought against Biden admin people about forcing clinicians to perform gender 'treatments' against their medical judgment or religious convictions. It was preposterous that he pushed that through at all (and undermining Title IX in general, is that right? I could hardy believe it), let alone prioritised it for the first day of his presidency. Good that grounds can be purely medical judgment, it seems, and also that it seems to challenge being forced to 'treat' adults, as well as minors.

So his problem is that everyone's propping up his delusion and he's all happy about that until he actually sees himself and then the delusion-bubble pops. Gotcha.

I have news for him, getting his face changed won't help. For one thing, I personally feel that he can already pass as pseudo-female in the face. Women tend to get a bit more androgynous in the face on average as we get older and he fits right into that. So if that's not enough for him then the surgery will just make him feel weird because it's not his face anymore and then we'll have to listen to him whining about that. And at the end of the day, no matter how he thinks he looks, he'll always know he's actually a man. He has to fix his own actual issues. Nothing outside of himself will do that for him.

Expand full comment

Do commenters know what Jenner said when he woke up from his face surgery? "What have I done?!?!" was what was reported. And I have not seen that women's faces become androgynous as they age, only women who smoke and/or drink and/or drug heavily; it must affect their hormones. Then there's male pattern weight gain in women, usually from a poor diet, in which women end up with big guts, and that's linked to higher testosterone levels.

Eurgh. I'm curious about Penny's use of 'cute'. It crops up a lot and is not language I use. I feel a bit peeved when a grown man calls women well over 18 'girls' as it's slightly infantilising and pandering. I may try to look good, and attractive, and that I care about how I look, but I'm definitely not going for cute, and probably not since I was about 6 when I ran about playing football and had no idea what I looked like to old men. These old men 'needing' to be young girls? Even (especially?) older women have an ability to realise we are not young girls any longer, we mature and embrace what age brings us as we move through life stages. Yes, it's hard as bits start to fall off, you become invisible, but that's just life, for men and women, and we are lucky to get to be able to age. It's a gift many don't get to enjoy.

It's grimly fascinating the interplay and if it's a response to a statement, event, act or something contentious is viewed as a 'threat', so therefore escalating actual threats back is deemed fair game or within that context. Sometimes it appears a mild disagreement, asking a question, stating a word or phrase, or refusal to capitulate and endorse is seen as good reason to pile on with graphic rape and death threats. It's less usual for women to use rape as a threat online isn't it? I wonder why that is. Do women use such highly sexualised and violent imagery as standard? No. It's almost as if the ability to threaten others - women - like this is part of the game. And TRA know the power of it, the power of sexual and physical violence.

You can't escalate if you start off so violent, it leaves nowhere to go. And attack is not defence, which seems jumbled a lot on social media and even at Manchester Pride.

I am seeing so much women's pain and trauma being exposed to try to show people what is happening and it's difficult not to feel anger turning into rage at what I'm witnessing. My own trauma is hard to resolve, but I try to live with it, and don't hate all men, or transwomen, and I'm still not threatening to rape or kill anyone with clubs wrapped in barbed wire, or spreading bodily fluids over loo seats and door handles. That's an insane need to win and get control over others. To invade and dominate. That feels just like the same old male violence. I want it to stop.
