Please stop saying it
I have a very dear friend and colleague who is troubled by this debate, but being a busy man who carries a great deal of responsibility on his shoulders, he does not have the time to look into it deeply. I feel he may be influenced by others, however, because he often repeats one of those many cliches we’ve come to know and love, the charge that in the debate around sex and gender, there is bad behaviour on “both sides”.
This has no basis. As I pointed out on The Mess We’re In, trans rights activism is rotten all the way through. Unlike gender-critical activism, where maybe—maybe— you see some sharpness at the very margins, trans rights activism has homophobia and misogyny running right through it like a stick of Brighton Rock. It is toxic through and through, from bottom-feeding anime avatars right through to Owen “Sunk Costs” Jones, who will not have a career when this is all over if there is any justice left in this world.
Show me the equivalent to this website, with equivalent abuse from GC women towards trans people. Show me any high-profile GC woman who speaks about trans people the way these blue-ticked Twitter personalities spoke about JK Rowling. Show me any high profile GC journalist with this kind of stuff in her Twitter history (and this is no outlier, this is a fucking journalist for The Independent!)
By the way, Cursed will tell everyone who listens that I posted this photo of him “as a child” for no reason other than my twisted transphobia. Of course, the real reason I post photos of people like him and Joss Prior is to remind everyone that they are incels, incels who wear make-up because they watched too much porn. They hate women, they want to terrorise them and dominate them.
You cannot defend yourself against a threat if you cannot describe it. Cursed and Prior are inadequate, spiteful, dangerous men, and women have done nothing to deserve being forced to share spaces with them.
The only reason Cursed has a career in journalism is that this coalition of trolls and blue ticked misogynists like Owen Jones have so successfully demonised feminists and lesbians that literally any abuse towards them is not just tolerated, but celebrated. While lesbians have been facing it down for years, this weekend, they finally turned on a gay man.
So please, if this debate is going to move forward, those on the fence need to stop pretending there is a problem on “both sides”. For years, feminists and lesbians have been trying to have an important conversation, and for years, trans rights activists have been trying to stop them . These activists keep the temperature so high to avoid scrutiny. Stop letting them away with it, start paying proper attention and drop the myth of “both sides”.
My daughter has difficulty looking me in the eye at the moment because my best friends, people she has known all her life, people that love her, are lesbians and she can't seem to answer the question as to why they are now to be considered 'terfs' because they are continuing to fight for womens rights in the same why they have always done, in the same why she has always known them to.
The figurative last fuse in my head blew upon learning of the nice gay man being robbed and set upon by the angry, slur-yelling GAY PRIDE mob because they didn’t like his t-shirt.
So, now I’ll tell you a true story. Decades ago, when I majored in “Women’s Studies”, some foolish, rebellious young man would inevitably enroll in a WS class and behave in a disruptive manner. The professor and students would speak to him calmly and rationally. We all hoped the males would remain in the classes and actually learn something (they rarely did so). These guys were usually fraternity pledges fulfilling a “task”, or defiant beta-type guys looking to argue or they incorrectly assumed they could breeze through an “easy course” to fulfill an academic requirement. I clearly remember, in one course, Women In History, a guy yelling “But this ‘Herstory’ crap is just your side”. Anyway, I think you catch my drift… that you’re absolutely correct & I refuse to use the term “both sides”. Women, children, lesbians, gays and bisexuals are being targeted, abused, terrorized and/or erased for existing & for not being adoring cheerleading fans of the T-orists. LGB needs to exit the alphabet soup & stand united with women and their allies, without ANY worries of Being Kind. We can do this. #LGBrexit
