Lord help us! Cross party members of the House of Lords are so supportive. I don't think Priti Patel is unsympathetic by the way. She has already demanded the police record the right sex of any sex offender they arrest. I do hope however, she will make this law.

It's great to see it really coming out in the open. Maybe the tide will properly turn before the new German government approves self ID. Let's hope so.

Richard Dawkins has made a huge splash because his post on signing the UN declaration on sex based rights boosted the petition by 5,000 in 24 hours.

The good news supplement is always welcome but there have been some rays of lights throughout the week too.

A lot of good news! And, as a current Californian/ former Los Angeles native, I really appreciated the photoshopped / altered image of the HOLLYWOOD Sign at the top of the page supporting women's rights...would that that message actually was actually posted there.

This Substack account and "The Mess We're In" Podcasts are so very important to me...a long time feminist and nascent gender realist / gender critical activist who has a LOT of work to do in supporting sex-based rights in my home state of California. Reading posts here/ watching the podcasts/ listening to the laughter of you, Graham, of Arty, of Helen gives me courage.

Thank you, Graham! Thank you, Helen! Thank you, Arty! And, please know that, in spite of the recent controversy, we see you....ALL, and continue to support your work and your efforts.

I read quite quickly and sometimes make hilarious mistakes. I thought that the MP Jenkinson was from WOKington, what a relief it was to read Workington! And thank your lucky stars that you have an MP sensible enough to take issue with that ridiculous newspaper headline.

Love you all but leave that alligator alone. It's okay for alligators to have algae on them. Not everything has to be squeaky clean. They live in the swamp! Algae is camo.

I don't think an albino alligator has a chance in the swamp; I assume it will live out its life in an aquarium and we can only hope a good one.

More good news for women...although, for once, not directly connected to the gender identity movement. After Chinese citizen, Peng Shuai, once designated the world No. 1 female tennis doubles player, posted an allegation of sexual assault against a top PRC government official, then disappeared, and then reappeared again, all Peng’s relevant messages about the issue were removed from the Chinese internet and discussion of this serious issue censored in China. Most corporations and sports associations have remained silent on the issue, but the WTA* Board of Directors, courageously, just announced the immediate suspension of all WTA tournaments in China, including Hong Kong.

Don't know what the WTA's current stance is on trans-identifying male athletes competing against female athletes in its sex-segregated competitions, but, as this association has now stood up against PRC officials' egregious treatment of one of its Chinese female athlete members, perhaps, in the future, it will also be able to stand up for ALL its female athletes and counter the gender identity's aggressive insistence that men who assert female identities should be allowed in women's sex-segregated sports?

*The WTA (Women's Tennis Association) is described on its website as "one of the world’s most recognizable and high-profile sports organizations, consisting of more than 1650 (women) players representing approximately 85 nations, all competing to earn WTA rankings points and prestigious tournament titles.

P.S. Much of the above info was from "Common Sense," the substack account of former NYT journalist Bari Weiss.

The WTA is headed by a man; I personally find it absurd that a women's athletic association is headed by a man. If you understand how things work in China -- I read an essay by a man who lives there -- you can learn how to do and how not to do things the Chinese way. Westerners really need to quit thinking their way is the only way. There is a way to complain in China and it's not on social media.

You're right -- it IS disconcerting that the WTA is headed by a man: however, if the choice is between a male director who stands up for the rights and well-being of its female athlete members, and a female director who caves or looks the other way when athlete members are treated poorly, I'd opt for the former....EVERY TIME.

"Westerners really need to quit thinking their way is the only way." Is that what was implied in my original post? I don't think so. I praised the WTA for standing up for Peng Shuai when it appeared that the PRC had disappeared her; and, then added that I hoped that that same show of backbone is evident in the face of intimidation and authoritarianism from the gender identity lobby, which, the recent establishment of the very first gender clinic in China notwithstanding, is VERY much a western phenomena...and, a very disturbing one at that.

Calling out bullying, intimidation, authoritarianism...whether from the PRC or the very WESTERN gender identity lobby is a good thing.
