Another jam-packed edition full of good news stories from the gender beat.
Women of Westminster Won’t Wheesht
In the House of Commons this week, Joanna Cherry challenged Priti Patel about Home Office membership of Stonewall’s diversity champions scheme.
Meanwhile, the House of Lords debated the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, including an amendment requiring forces to record both the sex and ‘acquired gender’ of alleged victims and perpetrators of crime.
Baroness Grey-Thompson and Baroness Morris both made excellent speeches on the importance of recording accurate, sex-based data.
Similarly, Baroness Jenkins posed a question to the Government Equalities Office Minister regarding the accurate recording of sex as opposed to gender identity in monitoring the gender pay gap.
Wave Them Goodbye
Allyn Walker, (‘they/them’) the university professor who advocates for the destigmatizing of paedophilia has left her—SORRY!— their job.
Having already been placed on administrative leave by Old Dominion University and facing a ‘fast and furious’ backlash, they has now resigned. But wow, what a CV they has now!
In Defence Of Free Speech
The President and Provost of University College London, Dr Michael Spence, wrote in favour of free speech and open discussion around the gender debate.
“I’m really proud that UCL doesn’t have a history of no-platforming. This is a place that takes trans rights very seriously, for example, but it’s also a place that is home to many gender-critical feminists, and each of these communities has a platform.”
Mark My Words
Mark Jenkinson, MP for Workington, spoke out about the harms of gender identity ideology in this excellent thread.
“Some people ask me why the gender identity stuff matters? This is why - allowing a man to say he’s a woman makes a mockery of science, of data, and of the law. Conflation of sex and gender identity is dangerous.”
A New Account To Follow
CEFA are a collective of early career feminist academics formed to challenge the hostility shown to those with ‘gender critical’ views in higher education.
They have written an open letter to Dr Jo Grady, the General Secretary of UCU, the University and College Union.
“Our feminist views, and even our scientific understanding, may credibly force us out of this sector – an astonishing situation for British academia in the 21st century. Will you support us? Or are we disposable? We are women who need our union. It’s time for you to represent us again.”
Woman’s Place UK Goes From Strength To Strength
The figures speak for themselves; we gender refuseniks are growing in number!
The LGB Alliance Is On Target
In just 30 days the LGB Alliance received £45k in donations - hitting the target set - to defend its charitable status.
Saving Our Spaces
Our sisters in Ireland held a brilliant protest in Dublin on Saturday.
Together with a wonderful male ally!
They gathered outside The Dáil, the principal chamber of Ireland's national parliament, to speak out against the erasure of women’s spaces and services and they raised their voice to the sky.
Solidarity, sisters.
Lord help us! Cross party members of the House of Lords are so supportive. I don't think Priti Patel is unsympathetic by the way. She has already demanded the police record the right sex of any sex offender they arrest. I do hope however, she will make this law.
It's great to see it really coming out in the open. Maybe the tide will properly turn before the new German government approves self ID. Let's hope so.
Richard Dawkins has made a huge splash because his post on signing the UN declaration on sex based rights boosted the petition by 5,000 in 24 hours.
The good news supplement is always welcome but there have been some rays of lights throughout the week too.
A lot of good news! And, as a current Californian/ former Los Angeles native, I really appreciated the photoshopped / altered image of the HOLLYWOOD Sign at the top of the page supporting women's rights...would that that message actually was actually posted there.
This Substack account and "The Mess We're In" Podcasts are so very important to me...a long time feminist and nascent gender realist / gender critical activist who has a LOT of work to do in supporting sex-based rights in my home state of California. Reading posts here/ watching the podcasts/ listening to the laughter of you, Graham, of Arty, of Helen gives me courage.
Thank you, Graham! Thank you, Helen! Thank you, Arty! And, please know that, in spite of the recent controversy, we see you....ALL, and continue to support your work and your efforts.
