It's disgraceful isn't it? The birth certificate is the child's document, not the parent's. It is a legal document that contains lies and scientific impossibilities. That poor kid, being gaslit from birth and forced to collaborate in her father's delusions. I wouldn't wish those parents on anybody.

I note Eddie Izzard has also played male characters on television (he was most convincing as creepy serial killer Dr Abel Gideon on Hannibal, for example). So if he's trans and should be allowed to play women, how come he gets to play men as well? Cake and eating it, and taking it away from real women.
That change of the birth certificate is so maddening though - what on earth about the actual biological mother's feelings?! The woman who carried the child in her womb and gave birth to her? Has she been erased entirely, or does this poor child now have a birth certificate saying that she has two biological mothers, in a heretofore unknown medical miracle? Birth certificates have to be accurate for the child's sake, not the parents (which I believe is what the UK courts ruled in the case of tedious Freddy whatever her name is). For medical reasons, if nothing else, it's quite important. But it is anyway a simple, flat-out LIE, a denial of the truth, of simple reality, and that is just so, so wrong.

(I ploughed through a couple of articles in French and my French is a little rusty but, from those and the articles I found in English, I'm pretty sure that's what has happened.) Yet another case of "equal rights" for trans actually meaning more rights than anyone else gets, including same sex and adoptive parents, and at the detriment of other people's rights (primarily the child). A legal fiction (this man is a "woman") has now turned into a medical fiction, or rather falsehood...an increasing trend that's really starting to worry me. Like how "Transwomen are women" has become "transwomen are female" in certain cases. You can't wish away reality.
Yes, I agree wholeheartedly, Jo R. I have some friends who are a lesbian couple with a child. Her birth certificate is exactly as you describe with the bio mother listed as such and the other as her co-parent. They wouldn't dream of trying to abandon reality and lie to their daughter. Rennie Davis arriving at the '68 protests in Chicago in a limousine, a political school where the one dude made more money than anyone else, cliqueishness in radical groups, the obvious discomfort with working-class people, on and on. So the swallowing of this ridiculous ideology by so-called leftists -- the kind with no critical analysis -- comes as no surprise.
I believe good ole Jeremy Bentham had somewhat of a dislike for lawyers but I'd be interested in what he'd think of this. I hadn't realised the significance of how the translations of his work into French led to such an influence on the French system (and all over the world like in the US and Mexico). I know his utilitarianism meant he was keen on things that made people happy (and as a justification), but this is just nuts.
It looks like the mother (I mean the lady who gave birth obvs!) is trapped. Maybe financially? Maybe taunted into submission? The press in France are not inquisitive enough. This is outrageous in a Catholic country, still strongly religious in south west France.
