"Layla is clearly a deeply disturbed young man and his state of confusion is probably heightened by the BBC giving credence to his claim that he found razor blades behind posters last year, and society telling him he really is a woman."

I knew of a woman who began to believe she was Jesus, but with professional mental healthcare she got over it and went on to live a happy, productive life. If they'd positively-affirmed her 'Jesus identity,' I've no doubt she'd be in a very bad way by now.

Gender Identity Ideology is a magnet for disturbed people; I'm reminded of that short film shown here recently with the harrowing recording of the detransitioner berating his therapist. At one point he says: "You let me dance around inside an illusion." The sense of betrayal by people you're supposed to trust when you're in a vulnerable state, must be tough to live with.

Let us not forget Ruth Hunt, who spoke of Jesus standing beside her, in a nightclub, (you know, as Jesus does, a lot, when his 'Dad' isn't looking) she either feeling him next to her, or imagining it....Malcolm Clark recorded this for posterity with a screenshot from her autobiography......It is message No 8 in this thread: https://twitter.com/twisterfilm/status/1269300501880938496

How much of that is true even? Let’s leave to mental health services and the police. Too many not doing jobs they are paid to do by us. This ideology has caused so much damage and it has encouraged so much laziness and silly thinking by people who should know better. Thank goodness for women saying no! Posy is working hard in Newport - fantastic clear talking about the problem. Hope the police are embarrassed

What we can clearly say is that we have before us a young man with most severe mental health issues. For his sake too - even if he comitted the acts he is accused of - we should make sure that mental health services and police can do their job, as you so rightly put it. Trans ideology hurts everyone it touches.

The mental illnesses isn't anything one would likely lie about. Sounds like proper treatment would become him better than trans activism.

I'm not saying this to be mean and certainly don't feel any schadenfreude, no matter what he has or has not done. I think we can take his case as a clear example of how dangerous trans ideology is for people with preexisting mental conditions and each case leaves me feeling sorry and ashamed of how rich societies fail young people with mental health problems.

That being said, the ideology as a whole can not and must not be excused with mental health issues. Many activists clearly know what they are doing and so do those who make a living off it. Mr Stokes and many others whom they claim to represent and support are their victims, as well as women and girls.

Chris it really is. Some lie about anything they can imagine to lie about. It's become very fashionable and like a social contagion to claim to have a multiplicity of things and mental health disorders. It capitalises on stigma and vulnerability. It gets attention. Officially diagnosed or self-diagnosed who knows. Too many are taking to social media to 'educate the public' and they all seem to have the same very narrow set of attention-seeking disorders. Many people also do or don't have mental health issues, they are just unpleasant or attention-seeking. Some might be both. It's built into the core of social media and to spread misinformation and personal opinion. It means the whole subject of mental health and mental health care or support becomes entirely twisted and skewed. This guy lies and also blames the NHS. He has openly threatened and blames 'the NHS' for not helping him. Sure, the NHS is failing many, many people as it's been and being underfunded and mismanaged, but there are many others being failed more than this man. He has been encouraged to identify and build his identity around being 'most vulnerable, brave and stunning'. There are many others quietly and more vociferously on waiting lists and having to seek private treatment as a life-saving measure.

Many UK mental health services have been contracted out and are run for private profit. Access is inconsistent. There are contracts out for tender as I write this. For yet more 'mental health' and 'gender identity services' to anyone who wants to bid for them. Billions are being sucked into this.

We are also conflating some behaviours as mental health conditions. We can't make that assessment from this remove. Are all rapists mentally ill? Are all men who talk about this like this mentally ill? All abusers? Is all abuse a sign of mental disorder? Is misogyny a mental disorder? Is lying online a mental disorder? How do you draw the line and justify behaviours or capacity? Temporary or lifelong? Some behaviours show mental disturbance, but this man is now seeking sympathy. He's been caught out. Is it selfishness or entitlement? Is it the assumption that he will never be held accountable for his own actions?

Normally, people who use mental health issues as an excuse come up with a very generic diagnosis. PTSD, depressions, substance addiction, perhaps ADHS. His are very specific. That's why I believe - I don't know and I'm not in a position to know - that he's probably honest about them. Let's assume for convenience's sake that he does suffer from these conditions. It is then likely that he'd be attracted to trans ideology. To people like him, that's a neat way of explaining his other conditions. "Oh, I am suffering from XYZ because I am gender dysphoric." 20 years ago, he would have attributed it to something else. Anything to restore a sense of dignity he thinks he doesn't have.

That's the dangerous thing about trans ideology. It draws in vulnerable people. Much like Catholic priests - or others - have always targeted the vulnerable. It makes his conditions worse. Much like it makes the anxieties a lesbian teenager likely feels worse and turns them into severe mental health issues, starting to hate your own body, your very self.

After reading what I have read by him, I honestly think the guy has severe psychologically relevant problems. Now, that doesn't mean anyone has to put up with them, by the way. But he is very obviously deranged to a point that I can not explain with anyone whom I would consider sane.

I know the guy is pathological liar, but I can not stress the pathological part enough. I doubt whether he can tell truth from fiction. At least most of the time.

(Maybe it's just me, the failed cynic quasi-Communist, trying to see the best in people. Guilty as charged.)

This is a systemic problem. We live in a society that in itself exarbercates the anxiety young people feel when growing up, pathologizing every step out of line, giving young people the sense that all is lost anyways, and which at the same time offers them a "solution", i. e. the solution of individually opting out of whatever troubles you. This is not healthy.

I agree, there is no clear line between the sane and the mentally ill. Incidentally, I strongly oppose declaring misogyny, racism or homophobia to be mental disorders. This would excuse those attitudes. I don't think that rapists are mentally ill, save a few cases. They know that what they do is wrong and they do it anyways. Some, perhaps most of them, have some mental disorders, but that doesn't mean that their deed was not their choice. They could have always walked away. Lying is not a mental disorder, we all do it, for f..k's sake. Every day. But most of the time we are aware that we are lying initially, and it takes us some considerable effort to convince ourselves that we are not. We all do that, too. The way that guy seems to flip all the time either makes him one of the worst liars I have ever seen or truly mentally ill - by which I mean in his case not being able to distinguish between his own imaginations and what we commonly refer to as reality.

Could I be wrong in my assessment? Bloody well yes.

And, like I said, this is not about the NHS. We, as wealthy societies, are failing troubled young people almost by default. We instill in them the illusion that wishing makes it so. This is dangerous.

Do they? He's very convincing isn't he. Check out YT and TikTok Chris. You'd be astounded at how well versed they are in the formularies. This is exactly the issue. He hangs all of his behaviour on a few diagnostic labels. You've used the word 'normally'. So you've decided which mental health issues are sorted into which trans sorting hat by whom? Why is that?

As a woman, and having seen this before, no, I have limited sympathy for him. People who damage and externalise their pain, often onto women and other vulnerable people elicit far less in me. Men stuck in mental health services are not helped beyond this.

Some claim very specific conditions - they have an air of legitimacy about them. Reddit etc are full of this shite. Entire sites and threads with enough knowledge to advise and diagnose others. Born in the wrong body, oh sure, that's a thing.

Men use the fact that a girl smiled at them as the justification for raping them. Men use all sorts of bull excuses. And they get away with it. I cannot now give this man the get out of jail free card for indulging in what he has. Some of the photos online show how public spaces have been designed and thought about, then he has scrawled his tag on them. That's beautiful benches and considered materials to try to make public spaces welcoming and enjoyable to use. He had to put his pissy little mark on them. It's like a male cat spraying. Taking control. Without consent. And attacking and threatening women dressed up as some human rights campaigning. He's set hares running and is part of a foul male culture that got yet another women arrested to check her thinking.

Do you feel the same instinctive feelings and compassion towards women with mental health conditions? Why does a young man, who engages in criminal damage elicit such sympathy in you? And can you explain how expression of these conditions often falls along very gendered and stereotyped lines? Why are some types of self-harm more common with some conditions? How is some kind of abuse of others more common? How is some 'mental ill health' more acceptable or more sympathetic than others?

Believe it or not, I got fed up with the mentally ill through women I knew! For me, it often seemed to go along with having enough money to indulge oneself endlessly in navel gazing. I know that total self-absorption is typical of those who were not cared for properly as babies and youngsters, but at some point one has to choose how one is going to live. It is not good for people to have too much money and too much time to learn basic skills such as being polite, being considerate, interacting with others, etc.

Lying is part and parcel of living in civilization. I make every effort every time I open my mouth to NOT LIE and only don't tell the truth -- as the Jesuit said, some people cannot handle the truth -- when someone might be hurt.

I can find his name if you want, but an anthropologist basically lived in the bush -- I'm not sure he's still alive -- and he watched a group of well-meaning British tourists destroy the sanity of a group of indigenous people who could not handle the British lying. Within a week of their trying to interact with the tourists they went crazy. He called groups pre-conquest and post-conquest in how they functioned in their society, what they valued, etc.

And R.D. Laing talked about this in relation to the family, how lying literally drives children insane. And I live with the perfect example. My husband told me when I met him that his parents had a wonderful marriage; five minutes with them and I could tell there was no affection or love whatsoever. I don't think it was even a year before they divorced.

I was born in California in the seventies, and I’ve always found it mystifying that there’s so much lying all the time. I wasn’t socialized like others and also had the benefit of being spared from commercial television warping my developing mind as well, so I eventually figured out that I just resemble natural people (pre-conquest) more and don’t exist in the mindset of objectifying everyone and everything around me all the time. Commercial culture is implanted into all of us starting at ever more younger ages through those electronic screens, and now it’s interactive. Commercial culture serves commercial interests. We’ve got to somehow learn to be more honest on the day-to-day, and I don’t know how that could possibly be done in societies made up of strangers (as called “civilized” societies), especially with them burying their faces into the electronic screens with their unrelenting stream of messages from corporate and other interests. Mind you, I’m not religious, but to me affluenza cultures (a.k.a. modern Western civilization) look like they have their own religion, which is materialism (as a pursuit of stuff) and the chemical paradigm of materialistic science. Pursued the way it is, it strongly resembles religion to me, and at the very least is a belief system that doesn’t serve the majority, but serves those who dehumanize themselves by promoting the idea that they are “elites” of some kind. Narcissism is rampant at the individual and group levels. Disconnection from the natural, physical world can only produce mental illness, and assuredly, physical illness as well. Them little (and big!) screens primarily spread mental illness and delusions, as long as materialism is in charge, with the belief system of male supremacy underpinning it.

"Let’s assume it’s true that he neither found glass nor pins behind women’s rights stickers, and he had nothing to do with those reports which the police say they acted upon. This means there must be at least two trans activists in the Newport area who have both made absurd reports to the police in recent weeks that they have found sharp objects behind posters or stickers they were trying to remove or deface.

It’s time for Gwent Police to specifically reveal what evidence they were acting upon and why."

This ideology attracts a lot of seriously mentally disturbed people. Hhmmm. Wonder why that is? Could it be that like attracts like? Could it be that the ideology itself is unstable with no foundation in reality? And adherence to it brings instant acceptance and unwarranted social cachet? Oh well, an unstable ideology will crash in time (it’s teetering a bit already). It would not have lasted this long without so many cowards propping it up for so long.

That's a lot of money for a funeral. Is it normal to pay 15K for a funeral in the UK? Here in NZ an average funeral costs around $10K - $12K, under half of the cost mentioned by Layla. That's what it cost for my mother's funeral 2.5 years ago, anyway, but I don't know if Covid will have affected the cost now.

You can spend a lot on anything, but as others have written here, no it seems unlikely. I wouldn't believe much this man says or try to fit elements of it into a continuous thread that might reflect any truth or logical whole. On what basis should anyone? Why he is taking to social media to now 'explain' his 'story' to random strangers suggests he doesn't realise the web isn't his friend and we weren't all born yesterday. By his own actions he has created this, and is now backtracking and trying to distance himself from any of it. Pleading his innocence and seeking pity. Not sure what he's now trying to persuade anyone of. All those pandering to him as some marginalised 'street artist' fighting for human rights have created this. Where are they now? Will they help him shape a stable life? Or is stable and without drama now some sad vanilla 'cis' thing that isn't so exciting? It is not 'kind' to indulge anyone to behave like he has been doing so openly and in public and its only purpose seems to have been to feed the maw of the trans activist machine. Just like sharing photos of eating disorders online which took years to begin to be addressed.

Does this not show that people go online to find community, support, understanding, connection or attention and it's not the best place? A mobile phone and access to social media is like delivering bottles of vodka to an alcoholic each morning. Then encouraging them to wake up every half an hour in the night to drink some more.

Again ripx4nutmeg has expressed it brilliantly 'Male mental illness is not a problem to shunt onto women'. Where is Jennifer Swayne in all this? When will this be over for her? Have any other women needed the help of Gwent police in the past week? He is pulling focus back to him again. This erupted and others, like her, got covered in shit when that shit hit the fan. Again. Where was Gwent police's duty of care to her, them and us?

People are struggling to pay rising costs of living in the UK and this man is still attention-seeking.
