lol! While I hate this government and it is corrupt, I cannot stand the pompous Maugham and his constant cocky Tweets about GLP. He just thinks he's so great. And there is too much that he's trying to attack them on at once that you get desensitised to their impact.
Jolyon will still get paid. In future, any action the GLP bring will be countered immediately with claims of vexatious litigation. Jolyon will still get paid.
It was actually very clever. The TRAs are used to spinning the truth so it sits quite well with them really - the current law is "bad" but GLP is "good" and we are on your side! It very clearly signals to people under the spell that this is a good v evil fight. And thus, whether he believes in this BS or not, he guarantees lots of donations to bring cases (which he may or may not care about) and he gets paid either way.
"To help parents and schools, Good Law Project has commissioned some expert legal advice which we hope will help schools in England and Wales understand their responsibilities and help families understand their rights."
Given that the GLP's most significant win was the prorogation case, it's surprising that Jolyon hasn't continued his brief professional partnership with Joanna Cherry. I'm sure she could have advised him on this, she seems quite knowledgeable in this area.
So a 'lawyer' who doesnt appear to 'know' the actual law when it comes to 'standing' is still employed through his chambers? his narcissism had reached epic proportions to bring this case and god help anyone he represents.
AFAIK he left his chambers. I seem to remember the Head of Chambers tweeting (indirectly) something along the lines of "don't let the door hit your arse on the way out"
I've long equated the GLP with the WEP - the Women's Equality Party, and Extinction Rebellion All of them sound like they fulfil a genuine need.
All are tragic failures, and if anything they are imposters who get in the way and block organisations that could genuinely effect change. The WEP, with its hopeless lack of desire to protect the single-sex provisions for women and girls fails in its task utterly. XR present the world with a vision of what an environmental protest group would look like if it had been founded and managed by Donald Trump.
The GLP is a poor facsimile of a public-financed anti-corruption legal firm who valiantly take-on corruption and sleaze. The Fox Killers bizarre tweet about the long-established women's charity FiLia exposed his rampant misogyny in a frankly embarrassing manner. But in addition to that he'd taken a spanking last June for disclosing documents in the Mermaids vs LGB Alliance case (http://charity.decisions.tribunals.gov.uk/documents/031%20230921%20Directions%20CA-2021-0013%20.pdf).
And in November, The Fox Killer had been apologising again;
'In an apology published on the Good Law Project (GLP) website, founder Jolyon Maugham QC said he wanted the organisation to put its hand up ‘promptly and fulsomely’ when it made mistakes.
Maugham was referring to a witness statement by former health minister Lord Bethel in a case concerning the award of contracts to healthcare company Abingdon Health. Maugham said he had taken the view that once a document had been referred to in open court, it could be published. An extract from the witness statement was duly posted on the GLP website.'
The Fox Killer's core problems, other than his incessant misogyny and a hopeless incomprehension of Court procedures and evidence, is that he spends, like Elon Musk, too long on Twitter. This ensures he is always vulnerable to the temptation of revealing evidence that all the staff of even the most amateurish LLP or Chambers would know not to reveal to the public, either because they shouldn't, or because it's never a good idea to let the Defence know what you know before you get in Court.
The Fox Killer's naivety in all things legal might be quite appealing. He could be seen as the Eddie The Eagle of the legal profession; meaning well, cutely adorable but ultimately hopeless at his trade. He can't even reach that pinacle though; his involvement with Harrop, his poor use of the money that gullible contributors willingly provide, and his repeated inability to perform to even the minimum standards we would expect of a barrister who likes to be in the public eye - and we have Michael Mansfield as a good comparison - means that The Fox Killer isn't by any stroke of the imagination the legal hero he thinks he is.
Rather he's a poor knock-off. The public need someone, and an organisation to perform the role that the GLP and The Fox Killer claim to be. But The Fox Killer and GLP isn't it. Rather it is likely blocking more reputable - and professional - individuals and legal firms who could use the funds that the Fox Killer attracts, and put them to a more effective use.
Comedy gold, yes Manflu, that case against the government for corrupt contract practices was absolutely vexatious. Shame you lost the case really. How is that poor impoverished bloke at the bar doing by the way?
Matt in his tight jogging shorts and Jo in his pseudo-silk kimono - they would make a lovely couple.
I think I donated to this case way back at the start, in a fit of righteous indignation, and before I was aware of how JM operated. I'm feeling a bit of a fool now and wish I'd donated elsewhere.
JM: WE WON!
Also JM: *whispers*... with his fox tail between his legs... 'No wait... We didn't... bugger'
Also, also JM: BUT I STILL GOT PAID!'
Minus kimono ? ‘shudders’
This really made me laugh.

You've got to be really bad at your job to make Matt Hancock look good.
You have a typo here - I've corrected it for you
'When confronted on the matter, Maugham initially stood by his comms team, which I suspect is a team of two: Maugham and his ego'
I'd like to know what he was wearing when he typed that lie.
Kim on now, Fred. I'm sure we can all guess.
Just what's needed; Brit humor (sc).
Oh for fox sake you two....
Vul pining for a better joke...?
I am now, yes.
But I shall now move to the great and captured country of Canidae.
Shon Faye? (too much??)

Exactly. He's exploiting an opportunity. Slimy man.
The ‘GOOD’ Law Project - as if all other practitioners are BAD! I always thought this was a silly name. It puts him / them above everyone else.
The name shouted breathtaking self-regard from the start, didn't it. Yet people fell for it.
Sweet to see this self-anointed arbiter exposed.

Saw this on Mumsnet: From their website:
"To help parents and schools, Good Law Project has commissioned some expert legal advice which we hope will help schools in England and Wales understand their responsibilities and help families understand their rights."

PS, URL has dropped an "s" from the end for anyone trying to find the page.
Thanks

Yes, The Fox Killer left Devereux Chambers Dec 2020. Twitter thread (Timothy Brennan, head of Devereux Chambers) https://twitter.com/BrennanQC/status/1344248805370306562
i bet they sighed bigly - as im sure they will when those two trannies Alex Sharpe and Robin Moron White do same and everytime they walk out the door
