I am so disgusted by these politicians, facilitating & legitimising this hateful ideology & its bullies. This is a social tragedy. Labour supports this under instruction from Starmer. Unforgivable. I am so angry.

On a happier note, I see that Robin Woof (the bloke who succeeded in stopping all those people from watching 'AHF' at Edinburgh uni last week) has been charged with assault.

Not his first brush with law do I do hope that counts against him.

Expand full comment

What was he arrested for ?

Expand full comment

I saw assault, which is a bit vague. I read that he'd spat at a man (amazing! He didn't pick on a woman) and also he'd elbowed someone in the face.

There's a video/photos of him on Twitter, I think, in Manchester in 2019 disrupting an anti-abortion vigil outside a clinic. He was throwing their leaflets around, picking up a chair and throwing it. He drove off at speed and crashed into a parked car.

He seemed to be acting alone then.

Well, I for one will now be opposing independence. This is not the Scotland I want to live in.

Expand full comment

It's not the independence that should be opposed.

What we need is an urgent campaign to get that lying hypocritical corrupt fraud of a woman to hell out of Holyrood. She is a disgrace.

Expand full comment

Sorry, but it is independence that should be opposed, because it is so thoroughly entwined with transgenderism that the two can no longer be separated. The same with Greenery and Liberalism. Labour is pretty much choked by the cult too. Voting is a blunt instrument, not a scalpel.

Expand full comment

Independence is NOT 'thoroughly entwined' with this lunacy, under Alex Salmond and the Alba Party. He and his party are the only ones 100% dedicated to fighting for independence, and to protecting women's rights.

https://www.albaparty.org/scotlands-people

Expand full comment

I'd heard vaguely of Alex Salmond's return to politics, but wasn't aware they'd come so far. So this is clearly the party for Scottish women to vote for.

ALBA undertakes to protect and preserve women’s rights, not at any expense to others, but as a safeguard for women and girls.

ALBA believes women have the right to discuss all policies which affect them, without being abused and silenced.

ALBA believes women have the right to maintain their sex based protections as set out in the Equality Act 2010. These include female only spaces such as changing rooms, hospital wards, sanitary and sleeping accommodation, refuges, hostels and prisons.

ALBA believes women have the right to refuse consent to males in single sex spaces or males delivering intimate services to females such as washing, dressing and counselling.

ALBA believes women have the right to single sex sports to ensure fairness and safety at all levels of competition.

ALBA believes women have the right to organise themselves according to their sex class across a range of cultural, leisure, educational and political activities.

ALBA acknowledges and promotes all of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 which are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sexual orientation and sex.

Crucially, ALBA understands the controversy and pain which have characterised Scotland’s recent attempts at reform; there has been much heat and at times little light.

ALBA invites and will endorse a Citizens’ Assembly on how best to reform the Gender Recognition process in a respectful, sensitive and positive fashion.

ALBA acknowledges that no single protected characteristic is more virtuous or more worthy of recognition and safeguarding than another. They are all fundamentally important, each on their own, and as a collective.

It's all there. People are perhaps wary of Salmond because of the charges levelled against him in 2017 and 2019. I tend to believe Craig Murray's account of the affair which strongly implicates Nichola Sturgeon in skullduggery amounting to involvement in orchestration of a framing of Alex Salmond in order to remove him completely as a potential political opponent who might attempt to regain control of the SNP if the charges were dropped. As it happened the trial went ahead and Salmond was acquitted on 12 charges and one was dropped, so it does look suspiciously like he was framed. If Sturgeon was involved or even just passively knew what was going on and averted her eyes, then she could be the one to end in prison. This might just be what is biting at her heels and causing her to act so irrationally investing all her energy in something so anti feminist when really she was elected on a ticket to produce a new independence referendum, which she more or less has abandoned aside from the ploy of claiming the next election will be conducted as a plebiscite. She is devious I believe, and the gender campaign is probably a smokescreen calculated to deflect scrutiny save her own hide, rather than being a passionate belief. I've got a feeling we haven't heard the last of this but the people sitting on the evidence are perhaps waiting for her to be voted out of office to save Scotland's face.

Meanwhile, Alba is the route to go

Expand full comment

Alba is indeed the way to go. Alex Salmond is the canniest, smartest politician in Scotland and his 100% commitment to independence is not and has never been in doubt. LOADS of people left the SNP when he set up Alba. It quickly went to majority female membership and as far as I'm aware, still is.

Alex Salmond took the SNP from the wilderness to 45+% in just a few short years after he took over leadership.

All he needs is votes.

As for Sturgeon, there is ample evidence that she has been all for this men wanting to be women crap for decades and just kept it under the radar. There is photographic proof of her cosying up to the disgraceful Wadhwa bloke as far back as 2012.

All Alba needs is votes.

Is it likely that Westminster will quash this dangerous legislation? It seems like that's the only hope left for Scottish women (what a dire situation).

Expand full comment

Well, it is bound to end up in the Supreme Court but unless Westminster speed through a clarification of 'sex' in the Equality Act that isn't likely to go in the direction of science, reality and women's rights either. The ruling last week on that set a precedent.

What can Westminster do? Do they have any power to stop this?

It will be a cross-border issue, in terms of people identifying as X, Y or *whatever*, in certain situations and circumstances as one thing in Scotland and that being not recognised in England.... so yes, it may well be a Westminster issue whether the Scots like it or not.

I do hope that Sturgeon has need to use The Ladies soon, in Parliament, to find she's awash in Trans Piddle, all over the floors and seats...That would be Sweet Karma.

I recall this happened in a shopping centre, near Stoke, IIRC, which changed from single-sex public loos to unisex, piddle EVERYWHERE all over the seats and floors. Shoppers rose up, saying they'd go elsewhere and it was a huge thing in the local paper. The owners of the shopping centre humbly apologised and went back to single sex toilets as fast as they could.

Loving that they managed to change the rule! I wonder how businesses who go woke will get on in Scotland. Not sure how legal sex can be viewed as a devolved issue. The arrogance of the SNP and wee jimmy crankie knows no bounds!

Expand full comment

I think that technically they can but it's one of those powers that in reality is never used.

I suspect that they will threaten to tie it up in court but Sturgeon will just bulldoze ahead anyway - she's always known it would be open to challenge and doesn't care.

Then it will rely on whether the UK government (already bogged down with trying to straighten out the mess left by its own previous incarnations) wants to devote energy to fighting Scotland, Labour, the Lib Dems and a small but significant minority in its own party over what we know many consider to be a 'niche' issue that 'most people aren't that interested in'.

I'm hoping but I'm not hopeful.

Expand full comment

Yeah I see what you mean about it being considered "niche" (the terrible irony is that most people WILL ABSOLUTELY care about this once they realise the implications) but the Tories have woken up to these issues recently, so maybe, just maybe there is hope...

Expand full comment

I think the time when even woke men could plausibly claim this as a "niche issue" has well and truly passed. This bill affects everyone.

Expand full comment

Oh it does affect everyone, absolutely. Yet I know lots of people who think this is just about a marginalised group getting rights that "match" their identities. People think this is a civil rights battle and that society can only progress if poor transwomen are allowed to get their penises out in front of women in women's spaces. TRAs will always fight and argue that this is just about trans people "living their lives". They need to pee, too. Blah blah. To me, this is a political power grab from the far left. If it was about men who believe they are women, we could have had a reasonable discussion and we wouldn't have this insane and mysogynistic bill being passed.

Expand full comment

I have given up thinking that time has come. I get both the Times and the Telegraph as they report on gender issues and still large numbers of commenters read the articles and then post 'Who cares', 'Live and let live', 'It only affects a few people', 'There's a war on in Ukraine and people are banging on about this non issue', 'More click bait for the right wingers', etc

I take a peak at a few but the Graun was awful. Hugely nasty, which is par for the course, but the level of outright lies and the same old things trotted out made me think it's been taken over by bots as it's hard to realise how truly nasty and deluded so many 'nice' people and 'Guardian readers' are. A few made fair comments in response and were shot down, insulted or had no 'likes'. It's a complete vacuum of any sense, or maybe glimmers of it. Casually arguing and insulting people and other people thinking, yes I agree, let's click 'like'. So many apparent males saying the most misogynist things and with gleeful free rein. And women saying, actually most women want this. It's disturbing. I am so far adrift from their thinking I can't understand it and wonder if this is real.

The mother who has two trans kids and they got to go out wearing the clothes they wanted (?). And apparently 'everyone' wants this and all the polls always say so and it's only bigots/far right/ignorant etc that are TERFs. How it's all about dignity and respect. And I kept thinking of those women who've been assaulted and raped in hospital wards then gone through lengthy processes to be proven right, even the one with it caught on CCTV after staff and the hospital authorities had point blank denied it could happen as it was 'all women, no men here'. That's what self-ID means FFS.

Twitter is chock full of the usual pinknblue avatars that state they are an increasingly silly list of 'autistic, CSA survivor, transfemme pan dyke Enby girl, fae/faer, Vixsune, Therian, Queer AF, Socialist' or 'Very gay autistic asexual poly biromantic trans girl who loves plushies, trains and Chiptune'. Most 'open to commissions'. ?? It's very nasty, mainly pornsick men getting their chance to get at women.

?? How would these people express how mentally disturbed and without much grasp on reality they are, then communicate that to anyone without the web of doom internet and its spawn social media?

Elaine Miller is being attacked for her protest, with so many claiming she's violent and aggressive, should be imprisoned and more of a threat to women than 'cis' men. Read it and weep.

Alister Jack, I think, was instrumental in the initial challenge on the rights of the child Bill. It went to court and was scrapped.

Let's hope Westminster planning on doing the same worth this Bill.

I cannot see how they can let it pass when it specifically challenges the EA on sex based rights. And after court ruling last week that trans identifying men with GRC are legally women .

Who TF actually believes that? I'd go to prison before following the law on that bs!

Passports and driving licenses are retained matters. The UK government makes the rules. I forsee lots of legal issues coming up. Not sure if that ruling does apply across UK?

Expand full comment

It doesn't. But it does qualify a UK wide law in part of the UK so at some point there has to be some reconciliation - I was going to say of the two positions, but at the moment there is only one position that has a legal ruling. Until there is either a case in the rest of the UK that provides a different ruling or the government step in and (as a minimum) clarify the Equality Act, I think that the basis of the ruling could be taken into consideration in the rest of the UK.

I'm not in any way a legal professional and would love to be contradicted on this by someone who knows more than me!

Expand full comment

We need a UK government statement now to say it doesn't apply in the rest of the UK and they could do that a number of ways. This happens with a number of other and reserved matters and where laws end up contradicting each other or one part of the wider UK goes full steam ahead ignoring laws that apply to us all (like the Equality Act). They are pissing about with individual status, personhood and identity with a very bullish attitude to how that will affect the rest of the UK. Thinking it's pushing against their colonialist nasty oppressors. Nicola Sturgeon is a real piece of work to have stuck this to independence and 'equality' so it's like this game of chicken daring the UK government in Westminster to do something if they're hard enough. Waiting on cases to be brought or challenged. She's been relying on that, division and hatred of other people and places within the UK and the Tories to get this through.

It's really worrying that people in Scotland will now have to hope that Westminster and the rest of the UK can uphold their rights, not those elected officials in Holyrood.

It's now more important than ever that we all recruit as many signatories as possible to the Sex Matters petition to clarify biological sex in the Equality Act.

For anyone who doesn't know, cards to hand out etc are available via the Sex Matters website.

What can we do? I am in the States, and already living with this BS at ground zero (California). But I have felt so, so much hope reading and watching the admirable GC women in Scotland who have been so informed and so determined to fight this dangerous nonsense.

My biggest concern is that all of this insanity is being implemented in ways that ensure that the inevitable results will be invisible. IRL, women and children will be hurt. On paper, the states (and countries) will be able to pretend nothing has changed, because they simply refuse to collect and record the data.

In Washington state, the state passed legislation making it impossible to find out how many trans-identifying males are actually in women's prisons:

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/mar/14/bill-limit-disclosure-trans-inmates-spurs-fears-ab/

In Belgium, they don't even bother to track or report crimes committed on women by transwomen, and even to record the sex of perpetrators:

https://twitter.com/RoisinMichaux/status/1604200438403805184?s=20&t=nLLAK7Vj8-srU7KLVymxQA

Now that Sturgeon has forced through this insanity, how can women in Scotland and elsewhere ensure that crime data is accurately collected and recorded? I assume we'll have to do it ourselves? And we won't be able to get the data from the authorities, so we'll have to get it from women self-reporting ... and then this will be dismissed as "transphobic lies"?

It'll be mere 'anecdotes'. Our stuff is always anecdotal, it seems, whereas claims that other groups are being subjected to genocide is taken to be true despite a total lack of evidence. In fact, despite evidence of it being lies.
