Twitter has found a way to take out gender critical women, many of whom have two accounts for fear of their main account being targetted by trans rights activists if they were to admit to their gender-critical beliefs (y’know, crazy niche views like “women exist”.) In this way, Twitter is using the vicious abuse women receive on their platform to silence them further.
To anyone worried about losing their accounts, RIP4nutmeg offered the following advice on Mumsnet.
Hi all - I just wanted to detail some of the social media censorship of accounts that disagree with trans ideology, which I've witnessed in the last week.
As you may know, I have a Twitter account that's got about 7,000+ followers. A number of people with smaller accounts, or people who don't want to be doxxed, send me information that's almost always in the public domain anyway, to generate more interest.
Last weekend I posted a story from a medical website in which a surgeon who carries out phalloplasties said that '80 to 90%' of them suffer from 'complications' as a result of the surgery. I commented that I wasn't convinced that this surgeon had the best interests of their patients at heart given those numbers, and for that received a 7 day suspension.
I was told by Twitter I'd still be allowed to direct message other accounts during the suspension, but after 36 hours this facility was removed - I could receive DMs but could no longer reply.
I set up a Facebook account so that the stories could still be posted. Within seconds of the page following gender-critical accounts like Standing For Women, this page was suspended, with Facebook demanding to see official identification to prove who I am. (Ironically Facebook will ban accounts for not respecting someone's self ID, but only accepts official ID to reinstate them). I sent them my birth certificate, but after nearly a week now, the account has not been reinstated, no information given.
This week we've seen the rapper Azealia Banks have her Twitter account permanently suspended for saying that money for trans surgeries should be diverted to farmers who feed people during a pandemic and Dr Jane Harris' account was removed for doing a rolling eyes gif about gender being 'assigned' at birth. Kellie-Jay also received a Facebook ban this week for acknowledging someone's biological sex.
When you factor in that Twitter and Facebook both censored a negative story about Joe Biden this week (Twitter wouldn't even let you post the URL to the New York Post story), it's clear that the censorship on the two platforms has hit new levels of dystopia against any account that appears to be anti-woke in the run-up to the US election. So, while my Twitter account has been reinstated, it's clear it won't last for very long, and I don't think I should hasten its demise by posting on there until after the US election (for what it's worth I'm not exactly inspired by either candidate and I'll hopefully be on Mumsnet, Glinner's email and Parler anyway).
While this censorship is terrifying I'm not that pessimistic because of the hundreds of messages of goodwill I've received in the last week - when I first started talking about this in 2017 most of the limited feedback was negative; there's so much awareness now and what's needed most in my opinion is for this momentum to continue.
Thanks to everyone who messaged me, particularly some of the incredible offers such as giving me their social media accounts (all refused). As one person emailed me last night: 'We will prevail'.
I disagree with Nutmeg only about the Biden thing. The way that information was acquired seems to me utterly sketchy and I think Twitter took one of their rare good decisions when they banned it from their platform.
There’s also this nice tip for when people do get banned.
The last thing I want to say on this issue is that these anonymous accounts are the absolute backbone of the resistance against this ideology, and when high-profile people who don’t do ANYTHING to help complain about them, they are revealing an astonishing ignorance of the nature of the fight. There really is no excuse not to know by now that anonymity protects women from shit like this.
Hello. Decided to pay subs for at least a month. A gift to myself. Thought i'd share something with you all as I can't say anything freely elsewhere. I was told - and I mean told - I was being transphobic at work today. It was only a matter of time I think, but still, a sad and worrying day. Angry and upset I immediately confided in my cat on getting home. She looked interested for the first 30 seconds until she grew bored & decided to wash her bits instead. Long story short. I work in government and I am alarmed by cult ideologies & refs to Stonewall that has spread through gov departments. I am also part responsible for sharing newsletters with my work. But this week I didnt, because it had links to 'Gender ID champions' and Stonewall as a 'go-to' to uneducate ourselves via brainwashing blogs. A piece written by some guy 'elsewhere' in the dep, advised us of gender ID and sex and what words we must use and of course, sex being assigned at birth... I decided to disagree with the author, who described himself as an " Archeological gender scientist " 🤷♀️ Really preached down to me and tried to belittle me - No appropriate behaviour on dept platforms so will throw that at him, if he tries to report me, which I think might happen. I was calm, honest, respectful and tactful. Stated facts and expressed concerns over his blog misleading people and being devoid of facts around sex. Some had commented before myself, praising this guy on a 'Very informative piece indeed' and 'I'm so glad you posted ----, I've been quite ignorant. Now I know how to be kinder to my colleagues...' etc 🙄 This 'scientist' was basically trying to brainwash staff. I pointed out Stonewall's flaws. Referred to law, safeguarding. Advised him gov questionnaires for all its staff, cannot state something which isn't scientifically true (Requesting they ask 'assigned at birth' question and to not gather biological sex data, as it basically 'hurts peoples feelings'.
I said long story short, sorry. But my anger around today is, that although I've stood up for what's right, I did it because I've had enough of this shite, I did it on a domain where you can't hide behind a green monster baby avatar ( Pic of the telly screen. 'V. The mini series'. Forces TV...sad but true) It is read by thousands. And likely my own bosses. I know, I have done nothing wrong. Yet I get the feeling I'm going to have some explaining to do. Bonkers. 30 years of service but I can't just shut up and let theses cultists infiltrate.
I use tweet deck and it gives you the option to switch accounts. I didn’t realise it wasn’t allowed. I set up another profile not even really that different to my normal one just to follow all the GC stuff there. I wanted to stop bombarding all my nice followers who are just normal folk trying to have a laugh and I’m shouting at them all day about women’s rights haha. Anyway it didn’t work really, i want to make people think about these issues. Although from recent messages with a couple of them it really seems it was a wasted endeavour. Have a lovely friend on there who said she doesn’t mind self id because trans women aren’t a risk to women. *facepalm*
I mean...
