Twitter steps up its war on women
Twitter is.making it impossible for feminists to speak and organise
I was delighted to hear Joanne Cherry plans to pursue Twitter again for the misogyny baked into its algorithms. This is excellent news and it reminded me that just before I got the elbow from the platform, someone let me know that my days on it might be numbered, so I downloaded an archive of all my tweets. I’m sending that archive to Joanna’s office because it proves I never misgendered anyone, nor sent abuse to anyone. I just consistently stood up for the rights of women and girls during what JK Rowling called “the most misogynistic period I’ve experienced”.
I’m hoping the information proves useful to her. First, they took out women like Meghan Murphy for correctly sexing a dangerous male predator, then men like me for writing “men aren’t women”. Click through for this Sam Barber thread in which he lists hundreds of women who Twitter silenced simply because they refused to be treated like doormats.
Well, it looks like Twitter didn’t think these numbers were were impressive eniough, because now they’re coming for everyone else.
One of the most valuable resources on Twitter for women, @ripx4nutmeg, was targeted and lost account access for several hours. Why? For sharing a Times article that revealed official government figures about sexual abuse in prisons.
Once again, the only way this ideology can advance its aims is by abusing language, silencing opponents and avoiding scrutiny. Twitter is a major part of that process. It maintains its strangehold on women’s speech for the same reason it gave Trump his biggest soapbox for five years, when his behaviour on the platform was at its most dangerous. Trump was catnip to the Right, The Gender Movement has similarly bamboozled the Left. And what do they both have in common? Well, for a start, misogyny. For Twitter, misogyny is money.
Both phenomenons are also as a) mad as a box of frogs and b) hugely divisive. Look at the painful gash that has opened up within the gay community over the word ‘trans’ , which no-one can define, and which no-one will ever be able to define, without needing some sexist stereotypes close to hand. Luckily Tom Harwood was doing his thing today and provided us with an extraordinary example.
“ …if someone's walking down the street right and gets catcalled that person is seen by society as a woman.” Poor old Tom! God bless him for not being bright enough to know why aging celebrity wokebros like Billy Bragg will never be caught talking about this with an informed opponent.
In the case of the divisions within the LGB movement, the cliché for once holds true that there are good people on both sides of the debate. So why is the debate so toxic? Many reasons, the corruption of Stonewall is certainly a major part of the story in the UK. but we also have perversely designed tech platforms that reward conformity, gamify harassment and treat womanhood as some sort of extractable resource.
Btw, Instagram has just banned the hashtag: #radfem
It lets countless violent porn pages and pedos run rampant, but banning a rad fem hashtag is more pressing.
I'm sorry, but three dudes discussing what is a woman with an actual woman looking on MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE. Men really have no conception of the shit that comes out of their mouths. I'm beginning to believe Emma on Spinster that there are no genes for intelligence on the Y chromosome.
