'Binding: used by some (but not all) trans masculine people to compress their chests and create a more conventionally masculine shape. Mermaids have a binder service available through our helpline. Mermaids advocates people to bind safely at all times, see THIS video from PinkNews for more information.'

B for Blockers and on 5th October 2022 this is still on the Mermaids website:

'Blockers, hormone blockers or puberty blockers: a type of medication which temporarily stops the production of the natural hormones which progress puberty. They are considered by the NHS Gender Identity Development Service and a body of international research to be a physically reversible intervention: if the young person stops taking the blocker their body will begin developing as it would have done without medical intervention.'

There's no G for Gay (not defined) but there is G for:

'Gender Identity Clinics, or GIC: NHS clinics that provide support around gender identity to people over 18. (People may be referred from the age of 17.) They are able to provide speech and language therapy, counselling and hormones. They will also make referrals for some affirmative surgeries.'

'Gender Identity Development Service, or GIDS: also known as The Tavistock: NHS service in England and Wales that provides support around gender identity for people under 18. Run by psychotherapists, they explore a young person’s gender, offer support for emotional and relationship difficulties and may refer young people on for affirmative healthcare. It is also referred to as ‘the Tavistock’ as the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust are the providers of GIDS.'

That's a tad obvious. What an omission. The word gay really is seen as 'transphobic' now isn't it. They twist and destroy everything they touch. How can those involved in current, ongoing and upcoming court cases not see that. Rights are mutually exclusive - a right to call yourself gay must exist and be protected and is under attack.

Gay means trans, lesbian means trans, bi means trans and trans means trans. Glad we cleared all that up.

No G for gay ? What a glaring omission .

In the comments...a young woman who wears a binder not because she is trans or NB but because she likes to go out walking at night and wants to appear male for safety. .jeez!!😳🙄. I wonder how many of those young women, in the comments, are now under the knife losing themselves to this Woowoo Cult..😟

Expand full comment

It's a modern day chastity belt isn't it? The only way to keep safe is to literally lock yourself up and away. To deform yourself. And young women are coming to these twisted conclusions through relentless propaganda as their only option. **** this enrages me. Maybe the men should be hobbled for our safety too.

Clive and Dennis highlighted the view on the Queen's Speech podcast that some gay trans men i.e. straight women may identify as such because they feel as though gay men are safer than straight men.

Expand full comment

I read that a lot of trans-identified women ("trans men") don't like to be called "men." They want to be called "trans guy" or just "guy" or "dude" or something else.

Expand full comment

Well they need to get used to being called women.

Expand full comment

And they cleared that one up, didn't they? All this ignorant LARPing as some exotic other you are clueless about. Grr.

The gay men who like gay men (doh) are supposed to happily smile along with those confused straight women trying them out for size.

Yep, just like the Primark incident, stay away for your own safety, don't leave home, be with someone (preferably a man?🙄) ...remind anyone else of countries elsewhere in the world!! The young fully indoctrinated and with their brain cells neutralised!!

I am sick of being cowed and that others feel they must cower for their own safety. Medieval arses forcing this on all of us. And yet other young women are bravely marching and two fingers up to their abusive 'leaders'. If you haven't seen the videos of women cutting their hair in solidarity, seek them out. The ones where you can hear the scissors make a specifically squeaky shearing sound though clumps of hair are particularly striking.

Out of interest do people have particular famous individuals that have endorsed gender identity ideology, they are more angry with than others for some reason? For example I'll never forgive Emma Watson or Matt Lucas. Ever.

Holly Willoughby, Philip Schofield, Lorraine Kelly and Carol Vorderman. For legitimising the concept of "trans kids" in interviews with vulnerable children on daytime TV, gaslighting anyone who dared question it. PS once said there is still a great deal of "ignorance" when it comes to people understanding trans kids. Hard to understand something that has zero basis in reality and is based on regressive stereotypes. Their actions - and the actions of their producers - helped to bring the idea of the trans child into the mainstream. Apparently sitting on a pastel-coloured sofa with two so-called national treasures and a cityscape backdrop entirely cleanses an abhorrent idea.

Absolutely. Shiny morning TV and all those dire sessions with the vacuous yet aggressive Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford. Cutting KJK off whenever she spoke and twisting her words - no wonder she got so good at sticking to her points and communicating her message as they tried to trip her up. They should look to what happened to Jeremy Kyle and his fetid show. Parading people and their mental health issues. None of that was in the public interest, it was for entertainment to laugh at the horror show. It's like legacy TV trying to keep up with social media the only way they knew how.

@Graham Linehan (& everyone) - zoom into the top left of the image. That's an animated bear right? It's not a physical item. Why is it there?

Expand full comment

I may be overthinking this but what they call 'trans' thinking runs through everything and is how they see and experience the world. It's a cute Queer Theory bear of course! The image needed added glitter sparkle.

You must put your stamp and ownership on and make it 'yours' and 'original'. Continually add and makes this 'cuter'. You must make it individual. If it was added by their team, they like to tweak reality and it all merges in their swirl of 'representation'. They 'alter' everything, they modify and 'improve' everything and they cartoonify and stick avatars everywhere. The image is all. So 'improving' a photo with a 'cute' cartoon child's toy isn't surprising. They think it makes it 'more appealing'. Many designers now 'add' flourishes as they think it 'looks' better in their 'style'. It's like those who put 'tags' on any surface they can as a way to show how 'creative' they are. The line between facts, truth, lies and fantasy are all just 'opinion'.

See a child? See the plastic surgery you can do on them and their boundaries you can break. See a photo? Photoshop it to death and then add additional things that weren't there but you wish were there. Take a selfie? Filter it so it doesn't look like you at all. Middle-aged man online? Profile avatar of a teen girl with car ears. See reality? Twist it to how you 'identify'.

Hbomberguy - Are you going to raise money for Mermaids after this attack from bigoted terf The National Lottery?

I hope we all don't get too excited about this negative focus on Mermaids. With how captured everyone is, they may survive it all and be fine afterwards. I'm not getting my hopes up.

Apart from the fact that the National Lottery should NEVER have funded them, this is great news! Good find!! Do you think we are heading for a lot of "why did you believe it?" interviews on the TV? (television, hehe!) I'm not sure we're quite "there yet" in terms of debunking the trans child myth. What does everyone think?

Expand full comment

A long way to go but this is the end for Mermaids.

Expand full comment

Yeah, I don't think we're "there yet." There's still a lot of work to do. I don't even feel very hopeful about LGBA winning their case. I think they talked too much about subject matter that could easily be seen as political. In the US, our equivalent to a Charities Council would not like that.

Expand full comment

Perhaps, but same sex attraction (not same 'gender' attraction) is a protected characteristic in the UK. If LGBA does lose, we can then all challenge the charitable status of Mermaids.

"Looking back 20 years you wouldn’t have something like that. Most trans people are scared of trying their name, like it’s frowned upon or you’ll get ‘found out’, so it’s really positive to know you can trial your name in that space and not be scared".

Ya, you're so right. A couple of decades ago, you wouldn't have used Starbucks to try out your 'new' name with an affirming coffee cup and a Mermaid cookie, because twenty years ago 'trans' youth were as rare as, um, Mermaid cookies.

Or as rare as mermaids.

Graham, this is one of those moments where I wish you'd just made this up. I know you didn't. I just wish.

It's rather painful to see that Mermaids - and many others - openly push the sexualisation of children and to know we are all supposed to be as enthusiastic about it as they are. And everyone who does anything about it is clubbed down publicly.

We are asked to suppress any instinct, any natural perception, any lesson the many pedophilia scandals in the oast decades have taught us, all in the name of a supposedly marginalized group. As if that weren't enough, they shove it right in our faces every chance they get.

I haven't the faintest idea how that is supposed to help the very people Mermaids and others claim to represent, I just see how it hurts and endangers many people and threatens to hurt and endanger even more.

Expand full comment

Talk about In Plain Sight. They are so up their own a**** they have no qualms about operating so blatantly. They are by the sounds of things a bunch of misfit munchusen by proxy mothers and pedophile/fetishtic men. They are a grooming gang with charitable status. I really don't think I am particularly off-point with those comments. We need to make these individuals feel deep shame, bring back shame to those who corrupt our children instead of this unbelievable outspoken support and glory they get.
