As far as I can see, Susie Green was an IT worker for the Citizens Advice Bureau before she became a self-appointed expert specialising in things that don't exist (like gendered souls). A classroom assistant literally has more educational validity than Susie Green, yet she dispenses "wisdom" and gets taken seriously.

How the hell - in the 21st century - can anyone sit through a TED talk where a woman talks about mutilating her son because he wasn't "masculine" enough?

I have always wondered what Susie Green's position as an "IT worker" actually was and involved. Data entry? Office administration? Answering the phone and taking care of the FAX machine? Making sure the office printer always had paper & ink? Reminds me of the old jokes about someone whose "career in aviation" was cleaning the planes and emptying the canisters full of toilet waste.

Ouch 😂

It’s like there’s often an opportunity for the opportunist, with dire results, as in this case.

Data security seems doubtful:

I said "data entry," though. Not "data security" LOL. Data entry means manually operating machinery to input info - usually by typing on a keyboard or keypunch where the keys are letters, numbers or symbols. Data entry can also mean transcribing audio or handwritten info into digital form (machine or computer language).

Data entry workers translate information into digital form by use of their own digits. When I was young, data entry workers were known as typists.

Susie Green joined Mermaids for support as a parent. She became prominent in the organisation, it was decided to create a CEO position, and Susie was appointed.

Great post and well done to Kathleen Stock for that tweet.👍👏 She's absolutely right. Hopefully Mermaids will be the next domino to fall ,followed rapidly by Stonewall 🙏🙏🙏 Hope the LGBA goes from strength to strength from now on.,winning their case for a start 🙏🙏🙏

Let's hope so. Maybe I've grown too pessimistic and don't see how the house of cards is starting to collapse. Maybe this is really the beginning of the end. At least it is, to quote a famous Brit, the end of the beginning.

I lost all respect for TED when they made that video. I thought they stood for intelligence, science, facts and other inconvenient truths but there appears to be no due dilligence to what they will include.

Mermaids is hopefully next to go and I hope SG's son sues her ass off when he's older.

Don't think he will. He's in so deep I'm afraid there is no healthy way for him out of this. If one can use the word healthy in anything about him, considering what his mother had done to him.

Two decades of extreme mainpulation are nothing anyone can easily put behind them, and especially not in his case. His whole life has been centered around his mother's needs and the role she intended for him in her esoteric fanaticism. Her fantasies and obvious mental problems are his existence.

IF he manages to break free from all this madness, I am afraid his will be a very tragic fate.

I very much agree with you. Same with Jazz. The parents should be tried for child abuse.

I doubt they will be but they should, not only for what they did to her body, but the bullying and humiliation they subjected her to on a reality TV show, where virtually nothing was off limits. Jazz's reality looked like a bad dream. Maybe Dad wasn't making enough money as a lawyer.

TED is and has been a kind of porn for the self regarding professional classes and all the feely belief-y wanna-be's for a long, long time...even in dot.com billionaire-NPR years it's been long, it seems to me.

It wasn't a TED talk, it was a TEDx talk. The rip off version for the hard of thinking. Very different. TED is still pro science and I've never seen them push woo.

Rupert Sheldrake could only get on TEDx too. 😁

Expand full comment

TEDx are independently organised under licence granted by TED - they still have to stick to the format and other guidance issued by TED and TEDx talks are hosted on the TED site. They could easily pull it but they haven't. I just checked. It's still there under their banner of "Ideas worth sharing".

I didn't realise they were so closely associated. I thought it was a place for TED rejects. Thanks for the info.

No worries. It is, but it shouldn't be as it lends credibility to the speakers of Tedx, who as you point out, can be just about anyone the organisers schedule to speak. It really affects the credibility of TED for me.

It is unfathomable to me and will be to my dieing day how anyone who watched this TED talk could not think that a child's life has been ruined over his parents' marital problems. And of course how anyone could not see how this is how "trans children" are made. Each and every parent of a "trans child" that goes public to support the idea of "trans children" tells the same story over and over again.

Children play with "the wrong toys". Someone takes issue with that. Problems arise. The child suddenly "comes out as trans" - and everything is fine for at least one parent, possibly both, depending on the concrete family. OK, sometimes there is a slight variation to this: One parent really wanted a child of the other sex and is deeply disappointed it didn't turn out that way.

It's not exactly news that children blame themselves for quarrels their parents have. It's not exactly news that they adopt behavior they think will ease the problems they think they caused in the first place. It's not exactly news that this harms children most of all.

But hey, we are supposed to forget all this because tolerance and inclusiveness. Sadly, many people actually do. Sob stories are enough for most to drown all they know. Shocking to see how easily people are being manipulated.

Kellie-Jay did a great blow-by-blow account of Green's TEDTalk You don't even need an 'O' level in psychiatry to know that if you throw your son's most beloved toys in the bin shouting that they are for girls, then he will tell you that he's a girl to get them back.

I think for a lot of people its not obvious. I showed it to my partner a year or so ago when I was initially learning about all this stuff and he thought it was a sympathetic story and I was being mean. He cautioned me about using it as an example as he felt it just made me look 'mean' to point out what was wrong with the scenario presented. He gets the gender stuff more now so it would be interesting to re-show him it and see what he thinks about it now, but its difficult as he doesn't like to talk about it. He has always been a big lefty and feels very disillusioned with them in part due to the trans thing.

Expand full comment

Of course there is no way you could or should force him to talk about something he's so deeply uncomfortable with. But next time he tries to avoid the issue, please tell him from me: I am in this fight BECAUSE I'm a big lefty and because of that I am convinced that we must go where it hurts and must talk about those ugly things out there this turbo-capitalist society wants to sweep under the rug. Because I'm a big lefty I have to stand up for people who are being hurt by people more powerful than them. And because I'm a big lefty, I am convinced that the only basis for leftist politics can only ever be reality.

Expand full comment

agree every word! Many so-called 'left' supporters of The Madness are actually what I'd call centrists (the Labour MPs, starmer himself of course). Tell him to follow the money, that's a strand that should convince any lefty. Graham has a link somewhere here.

I completely take your partners point. I have thought about showing this to my partner, but I suspect he would react in a similar way to yours actually. I think it is a useful video to show to some parents of young children if they aren’t “getting” it, but I wonder if you are in the ‘be kind’ camp you might not see the (massive, glaring) problem with this video.

My daughter said she was a boy when she was two. I’m very glad I already knew the score and just said “no, you’re a girl”. I shudder thinking about the alternative.

Just watched the YouTube video. How the hell has this woman, who has absolutely no medical qualifications to my knowledge, got to be head of a charity that tells children they are in the wrong body? You couldn’t make it up. It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so tragic. And to castrate your child is the ultimate in child abuse, how has she got away with it??
