The real revenge of the nerds
A Pianobook Discord moderator abuses his position to cover up a medical scandal
This post is by someone who has been a member of the Pianobook community since its inception by Christian Henson. Pianobook is an instrument-sampling service offering free instruments to the community by the community. It just recently went semi-commercial with some paid-for instruments (similar to Spitfire Audio) and as such Christian Henson set up a new team of people in his hometown of Edinburgh to re-launch the service and hopefully enable creators to make an income off this service he set up.
Doodlewhale joined the discord when it first popped up and while not active on there (partly due to the obvious trans ideology rife among some mods and members; pronouns galore) he found the discord server invaluable for keeping an eye on community announcements and technical updates.
When you read this story, bear in mind that it is by no means unique. The same authoritarian principles and personalities govern online discourse. As proved every day by Twitter, Google, Wikipedia, Vice, Media Matters and Discord, The Internet is ruled by abusive men like ‘Harriet’.
The day Christian posted his now-infamous tweet I took to the discord to see what the ‘discourse’ was. Was he getting the support he deserved? I was alarmed to find the lead developer of the service and PR guy had used the official @pianobook1 twitter account to put out a statement akin to Spitfire Audio’s deriding Christian. This Angus Roberts-Carey did not use his own twitter account to express his “personal apology” but rather tried to pass his view off as that of the whole community by using that account and not his own @angus_arcmusic .
I felt I needed to stand up for Christian in the discord server so I said the following >
I was then advised to go and read the 3 commandments pinned in the channel:
Here they are in all their religious glory:"
I continued on being incredibly careful with what I said and the mods were alerted to my wrongthink. Note that the trans activist here despite his libellous allegations against Christian and total disregard for the safety of autistic children was allowed to continue on without so much as a blink.
I was then promptly booted from the server. The mod had arrived. This is the mod on Twitter getting praise from Angus the new self-proclaimed voice of Christian’s Pianobook.
Here is that same mod taking to twitter to excommunicate the other voice in discord that I found that was supporting Christian.
I then found out today that I could use the old invite to get back into the server. I found confirmation that this mod had indeed kicked me and this was their comments after I was gone.
The mod continues to admonish the other guy ‘Wesley’ and then mischaracterise Christian’s tweet. Also lol at the ‘transphobia’ spoiler tag.
B-b-b-because it’s Graham Linehan:
Ruh-roh, here comes the ban hammer, this time aimed at Wesley!
So, all back to normal, trans ideologues back patting and once again safely echo-chambering until…
WESBOUND! 😍 (I presume Wesley on a new account?) replies to one of my pre-ban messages.
More Ruh-roh for Wes. Looks like his days are numbered again.
Well, I had to reply.
Within seconds I was gone.
The ‘real revenge of the nerds’ — good one. The ‘Harriets’ of the world are moderating public discourse. What the hell is going on, and how has this happened? In a sane world, these creepy, authoritarian, smug boys who are afraid to become men would not be allowed to wield any power. Wannabe women who hate women. And the ‘woke’ is off the scale. Acknowledging the vulnerability of autistic children is ‘ableist’? Absurdity piled upon absurdity.
This was so agonizing to read - because we have seen this same damn bullshit happen in every Facebook group, discord, hobby forums, you name it. The same damn thing every time. Villainize someone for no reason for supporting someone who has been villainized for no reason with zero room for reasonable discussion and ZERO “receipts” of the crimes the villain is supposed to have done. It’s like everyone’s minds have turned to porridge.
