In 2014 Billy Bragg posted this photograph to his Facebook page. It was taken in support of Barking & Dagenham Council's campaign against male violence towards women.
In the seven years since making this pledge, Bragg has consistently broken his promise to speak out against male violence against women ‘in all its forms’. Here are ten incidences of violence against women that Bragg will never condemn.
1. Maria MacLachlan
In September 2017 60-year-old Maria MacLachlan was assaulted by trans rights activist, 26-year-old ‘Tara’ Wolf.
Maria was in Hyde Park, attending a feminist meeting, when Wolf attacked her, punching her in the face. During the trial, at which Wood was convicted, Maria was forced to refer to her attacker with female pronouns. The last we saw of Wolf, he was kickboxing against male opponents in Thailand , but said he hoped to compete against women again “someday”.

2. Paula Lamont
In March 2018 a female trade unionist was attacked on her own picket line by trans activists following her attendance at a Woman’s Place UK meeting.
Paula Lamont, an elected member of Bectu sector executive committee, was on a Bectu Picturehouse picket line when she was surrounded by a mob of trans activists who shouted at her and swore in her face. She felt so intimidated she was forced to leave the picket line for her own safety and said the incident left her very shaken.

3. A Woman’s Place
In June 2018 a Woman’s Place UK meeting in Hastings received bomb threats which the police took seriously.

4. Unnamed ten-year-old girl
In March 2019 a trans identified male, Katie Dolatowski, sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in a female toilet.
Despite having committed a similar offence only a few weeks earlier, Dolatowski avoided a prison sentence. He then went on to repeatedly breach the terms of his community payback order.

5 Julie Bindel
In June 2019 veteran women’s rights campaigner, Julie Bindel, was leaving an event at Edinburgh University when she was physically attacked by a trans identified male.
After giving a talk at Edinburgh University, Julie was on her way to take a taxi to the airport when a man wearing a skirt and sporting lots of dark stubble, attacked her. This is the man responsible.

6. A Woman’s Place (again)
In September 2019 aggressive trans activists besieged a WPUK meeting which was being held in Brighton to coincide with the Labour Party conference.
Attendees trying to get into the venue were confronted by an angry mob barring their way. They were screamed at, taunted, doused with water and had to enter the building under a police escort. As the meeting proceeded, the trans activists positioned themselves along the street-level windows. They shouted, chanted and kicked at the glass, terrifying those inside.

7 Selina Todd
In January 2020 a female academic at Oxford University required a security detail on campus because of the threats made against her by trans activists.
Professor Selina Todd, whose research focuses on feminism and working class life in modern Britain, fell foul of trans activists after speaking at a WPUK event.
Death threats were made against her on an online student network. The university investigated these threats and found them credible enough to arrange security for Professfor Todd for the remainder of the year.

8 Unnamed female prisoners
In May 2020 The Times reported on the sexual assaults committed by trans identified males against women in female prisons.

9. Celine Provost
In September 2021 a trans-identified male won his debut MMA fight by choking his female opponent.
Alana McLaughlin is a 38-year-old former sergeant in the US Army Special Forces.
He now ‘identifies as a woman’, transitioned five years ago and has just begun a new career in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighting. In the women’s division, of course. He won his debut match by overpowering his opponent, Celine Provost, with a ‘rear-naked choke’.

10 Over 40 young women
In October 2021 the BBC published an article in which over 40 lesbians described being pressured or coerced into having sex with trans-identified males.
Two of the women interviewed were sexually assaulted.
Billy Bragg’s sudden concern for the welfare of crossdressing men like Eddie Izzard would perhaps be admirable if it didn’t also mean he is suddenly struck dumb when members of the Left’s sacred caste attack, harass and even rape women.
Would he make such a pledge, hold up such a sign again? Perhaps it needs editing.
He’s free to change his lyrics if he likes...
And we are free to parody them:
“I was twenty-one years when I wrote this song
I was quite good then but those days are gone
Women ask what d’you think you’re doing, man?
But they never knew just what a prick I am.
I don’t want to change the world I’m not looking for a New England
I’m looking for some better sales...”
“So that was my past but I’m pivoting from it
If you’ve got a bandwagon I’m gonna get on it
Pushing for the great leap backwards...”
Excellent article. It exposes him as the opportunistic pick -me boy he really is. I can no longer listen to his music, he disgusts me so much.
