There isn't any such thing as "misgendering." People don't have genders. We have sexes. Gendering is for things that don't have sexes; the French don't actually believe that pencils have penises.
What Kate and Jesse call "misgendering" is correctly sexing. We can argue all day long about what's "polite" but I know for sure that what's actually rude is demanding that someone say something that isn't factually true.
Every person has to decide for themselves whether to go along with "preferred pronouns." I'm not going to tell you what to do. But I'm also not going to condemn you if you decide to switch over to correctly sexing everyone, either, and I have a feeling a whole lot of your followers here on Substack would agree with me. So keep that in mind.
Graham - I look at these dates and realise you’ve been fighting this nonsense for a long time. I’ve only done 12 months and I sometimes lose the will to live. Thank you for continuing to fight on our behalf 👏
I just unsubscribed from Jesse Singal's substack and subscribed to yours. I'm really disappointed at how lazy and arse-covering that last Blocked and Reported podcast was. I'm waiting until their next patrons episode to see if they address any of the things they got completely wrong. There are huge numbers of critical comments on their patreon and subreddit.
I'm currently listening to one of the Sitcom School videos - any plans for more? It's so good!
I can't believe how calm and eloquent you are being about this all! If two supposed journalists with big platforms were lying about me on a platform from which I'd been banned I'd be absolutely insensible. It's even worse than when people lie about you from behind a block. Much worse, in fact.
Because of this letter, I've become a paid Glinner Update subscriber, temporarily.
I disagree with a lot of what Glinner does and how he goes about it; but the kicking he's been getting is outrageous. At the very least he deserves respect for his commitment. So I'll be unpatreoning Blocked and Reported as well. Even though I actually agree with a fair amount of what they said, their behaviour has been deeply unimpressive and, frankly, dishonest. The least they could do - as journalists - is have the man on to defend himself.
I also very much think that Glinner should take a holiday.
And, unrelatedly, people have been talking about shooting someone in the leg for the zombies for the past week now. Was that you? Haha. As a Walking Dead fan I immediately thought of the Shane and Otis scene. Well played.
“Do it to Julia”. The phrase always hits me. To do the worst to the people you should love. I know there is a moment I did it too. No excuses. Just sad.
