So pleased to see Graham having a positive trip to Oz. He deserves a reward for his courage over recent years. Thanks to you too JL for keeping this Substack well informed. We’ve all come a long way but judging by the enraged noises coming from the Tras we must be getting somewhere.

I’ve thought of another good point about gender ideology. If it wasn’t for all the insanity, we wouldn’t have these substacks to look forward to and we wouldn’t have had lots of great people to chat with in the comments. 😁

once its over Ms Terfin we must find another cause and get JL to endlessly research it every week for years and years. But it has to be a topic we can all get angry about. There’s a few. I feel quite passionately about tax dodging bastards, and the food industry who lie to children and try to ruin their health whilst getting really rich and contributing nothing to the health care emergency they are causing. I think the world is full of inadequate or none existent legislation. Oh well. As usual all the people who could change it won’t because they are on the payroll

JL, a fantastic image! made me giggle, when this is over i will sell some of my vast stock to employ some alpha males to fan you continuously with luscious branches and feed you grapes on said chaise longue- or just send you a record voucher, your choice. I’m f-ing fuming again JL, just found out that at school, girls aren’t entitled to single sex loos- primary level this time. I sort of get closer to peace and then right back into it. I was just about to research whether the school is breaking the law. I just don’t understand why this is happening and no one’s thought maybe we shouldn’t be training our girls to be excepting of males in their spaces. Its such a clear violation of our basic duties of care. Its too much all this. Feel so let down by these teachers that i like and trust to look after my kids. I knew we had this poor kid at school but i trusted the school to let him use the staff loos or access loo- obviously letting him get his nob out infront of 8 yr old girls isnt the solution ffs. I honestly didn’t think i needed to ask and check. Third night off the booze in prep for next marathon on sunday. I got a cold. I’m so cross, I can’t believe how f-ing stupid our society has got. A lot of things people are into aren’t compatible with secular liberalism i think. Its sad. Oh well. have a nice day

Oh CB I'm sorry to hear that you're not well and that the school has your blood boiling again. The law says that schools have to provide separate single sex toilet facilities for pupils over the age of eight. If they are allowing a so-called 'trans' kid to use the girls' toilets, the school IS breaking the law if the girls are aged eight and above. (See the link below - page 5.) Furthermore, it is in direct contravention of recently issued government guidance on the provision of single sex spaces and the allowing of children to 'socially transition' etc. (See the link below - page 14.)

The very best of luck on Sunday, CB. I'll be cheering you on (from my chaise longue!) May the wind be at your heels.

JL, as a Canadian, the organization of Stonewall has intrigued me. It seems to have set itself up as an institutional extortion operation. There's a charge for their stamp of approval. This 'legitimate' shakedown seems to have been a financial boondoggle for Stonewall and I can see why they want to retain their hold. You report that Sport England has cut their ties with Stonewall which I'm hoping is the start of a domino exit for other institutions to follow. Does anyone know what Stonewall charged the various organizations that signed up for this rubber-stamping? They are listed as a charity so I'm thinking this information is public. Just curious.

May 7Author

I think they have a very complicated scale of charges for membership dependent on a myriad of factors (size and type of the organisation, number of employees etc). Freedom of Information requests have revealed that some public bodies spend tens of thousands every year. Stonewall's own website says that membership can be had "For as a little as £7 per day..." which would suggest that, at the very least, it costs £2,555 pa.

Stonewall's income seems to be around £7-8 million p.a. in recent years. (from: https://givingisgreat.org/charity-factsheet/?regNo=1101255)

"At least £1,107,868 was given to Stonewall through taxpayer funded organisations in 2022-23. This includes £530,482 through the Diversity Champions scheme, £71,071 through events, conferences and workshops, and £503,225 through grants. 11 Mar 2024"

Thank you for this. It's interesting to see the government financial support for Stonewall. This pales by comparison to what our Liberal government, headed by Trudeau, has given to the LGBTQ causes in Canada. He announced another 100 million dollars to fund LGBTQ community organizations over a 5 year plan. This is on top of the 10s of millions already spent. They also donate to groups, such as www.antihate.ca that look for anyone who is gender critical. Canada continues to fall further down the trans rabbit hole. There is a federal election next year, but I'm not that hopeful.

Expand full comment

100s of millions of dollars - 'king kerrching! I had no idea of this.

Expand full comment

It makes sense to have "a scalable service" as Stonewall mentions on their site and if an annual fee of £2,555 is the minimum I would be curious to know what their maximum is. When you see the sizes and variety of the organizations and institutions, both private and public that have signed on, it boggles the mind. What a racket! We need another Jennifer Bilek type investigation. On a side note, I wonder how much Sport England will be saving by stepping away from Stonewall. JL thanks for your reply.

May 7·edited May 7Author

According to The Daily Mail Sport England spent £5000 on Stonewall membership in the previous two financial years. But I suspect, for such a large organisation, they spent a good deal more than that! Remember that the membership is just the start; if they want to earn they're rainbow points and climb up the rankings, they also have to shell out for training and workshops etc etc... Racket is right!

It's like a bloody pyramid scheme. They have (had) a good thing going. It's like the question, "How often do you beat your wife?" and it's up to you to prove you don't. Their escalating point system tells the world how big an ally of the LGBTQ community your organization is. Without it, you have to prove your not biased.

Expand full comment

Exactly. They're very smooth grifters who chanced upon a money-making scheme with such an indefinable core purpose, no one would admit that, so threw their lot in with it through fear of being outed as 'transphobic'. It's extortion and they've had governments and big business throwing money at them to 'prove' their shiny, fluffy credentials.

Expand full comment

It's not, I think, widely known that Canada has a variant of Stonewall: Egale. I don't know whether Egale awards ratings on an institution's fcukwittery, but a list of its government, corporate, and foundation partners can be found here ~ https://egale.ca/our-partners/ ~ along with its marketplace, which seems to specialize in silly underwear.

Expand full comment

Thanks for that. Everything is now a marketplace (even and especially 'knowledge'). There are now so many 'official' or 'representative' bodies that are just private profiteers. Part of my role used to be to know the key players in one heavily regulated sector and who we had to meet with, liaise with or be aware of, so I could give appropriate advice. Spotting legislative changes and where the sector was heading, or where we needed to spot gaps so we weren't caught out. Continuing professional development (CPD) is an interesting and alarming area. I still don't know how all of this gender junk got itself so deeply embedded or so widely as part of that when none of it stands up to scrutiny. I work in safety, but it somehow got packaged together with safety, then health & safety, then 'wellbeing'. Yet these organisations keep growing and others don't know their 'accreditation' is meaningless. When Stonewall/Egale/LGBTYS etc managed to get themselves embedded deeply within Universities and Royal medical colleges as part of these accreditation bodies or with enough of the same talking heads on 'advisory' bodies. It occasionally pops up when someone has been struck off, or fined but this is still being pushed as a core part of learning and CPD.

It was made very, very easy for anyone to set up shop online wasn't it? They look 'professional'. I remember the difference when one of my employers got a flashy new website, which automated a lot of enquiries and I realised the power but distance that created - set up a new website and marketing strategy and no one really knows if it's one, three or 5,000 employees busily working away behind the scenes or doing what. I was often assumed to be in a huge team. How can anyone tell how legitimate any of it is. Actual experts and professional bodies are now fighting this, even from our supposed professional colleagues. Call yourself 'professional' anything and people will trust that. Get a dodgy social sciences MA, then PhD and enough people actually believe you know what you are doing. Something would be released or tweaked on our site and interest would increase suddenly, with more enquiries or training needed and if it wasn't planned we couldn't keep up with that additional traffic and do our existing work. And local authorities all became contracted out to consultants and with that all the knowledge and oversight disappeared with it.

Interestingly, Andrew Doyle's most recent substack is on The Scourge of Safetyism: https://andrewdoyle.substack.com/p/the-scourge-of-safetyism/comments?publication_id=825968&post_id=144122792&isFreemail=false&comments=true

"The claim that “safety” is being jeopardised has become one of the most commonplace tactics of activists. In the workplace, an employer is likely to ignore a complaint that a colleague has expressed a disagreeable opinion. But if the complainant insists that health and safety has been jeopardised, the employer then feels obliged to act. What seems like a legal requirement is simply another example of the exploitation and manipulation of language that lies at the heart of these ongoing culture wars."

That such exploitation and manipulation of language should have proved so easy cannot cease to shock me.

Expand full comment

Aha, thanks for the link. And I think we need to keep being shocked and not let this wash over us. It's very odd exactly how workplace requirements have been corrupted. The being seen to act so you can be seen to be acting. Huh?

There are so many threads through this whole debacle - when people claim there's a 'safety' issue I sometimes ask them to point to what or which bit of legislation they think might apply. Safety is still about not getting limbs ripped off or crushed at work, or falling from height, actual real harm. And stress, fatigue and distraction. Or increasingly staff getting intimidated or attacked. Not vague perhaps hurty words you could possibly want to deliberately interpret to make yourself feel bad/challenging or uncomfortable but necessary feelings/safe spaces. No space is safe. That vogue for poems to be marked 'unsafe' in University courses or for books to be banned melted my head a little. It's not even psychological safety which is a necessary feature of all workplaces, it's morphed into coddling, coercion, harassment and the rest with people too fearful to ask questions. I'm never sure if it's HR teams who seem to push this and without much of an anchor to justify why.

Like all those multiple 'gender' flags, which only seem to be about how people like having or not having or talking about not having sex, or only sex on Wednesdays, plastered all over a Network Rail station to make passengers feel 'safe' which is now used as a synonym for welcome, happy, warm, fuzzy, relaxed, included, fun and whatever else they decide it now means. In such a genuinely hazardous wider environment I was awestruck at how that project was even suggested as a legitimate focus for any attention or money. It means people are more likely to ignore signs when they have no meaning or it's some Queer Theory junk, not your chances of being electrocuted. Oh, well done everybody. Then lots of grinning rail men stood having their photo taken to show how inclusive and diverse they are. It would be nice to know if it was that one very dedicated man who managed to waste all that time pushing it all in 'staff networks' or if this is supported more widely in that organisation that are still giving money to Stonewall to be 'Champions'. The fact he was judging a women in rail award really took the biscuit.
