A handful of good news stories from the gender beat this week. Enjoy!
A Level Playing Field
Wonderful news from Washington; The House has approved legislation banning trans-identified males from female sports in all federally funded schools.
This week USA law-makers passed the Protecting Women and Girls in Sports Act, thus protecting female sports in educational institutions. Any school which allows “A person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls” could lose its federal funding.
On a similar theme, a recent The New York Times poll found that the vast majority of Americans, including Democrat voters, do not believe trans-identified males should be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
The survey, conducted by Ipsos, asked participants, “Thinking about transgender female athletes — meaning athletes who were male at birth but who currently identify as female — do you think they should or should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports?” Of the 2,128 respondents, 79% said no, they should not. Of the 1,025 people who described themselves as Democrats or Democrat-leaning, 67% said that trans-identified males should not be allowed to compete in female sports.
Poll Clear on Clarity
Voters support clarity on the definition of ‘sex’ in UK law.
A new poll conducted by YouGov for Sex Matters demonstrates that the majority of people in the UK support clarifying the definition of ‘sex’ in the Equality Act 2010 to refer specifically to biological sex.
Glinner Of Hope
Don’t miss Our Graham being interviewed by Gript’s Fatima Gunning this week. (Full version available to Gript subscribers here.)
Graham also appeared on Talk TV, speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer about the BAFTA nominations.
Graham was also on this week’s Spiked podcast in conversation with Tom Slater and Fraser Myers.
And Graham appeared on The Mark Dolan show this week.
Don’t forget that Graham’s memoir, Tough Crowd, is still available from Amazon, The Express shop, Lightning Eye, Waterstones, Blackwells and all other discerning outlets. (There are also audio versions available on Audible and Spotify too.)
Short this week maybe, but oh my the news of executive orders streaming from Washington (with the exception of one or two) is so very sweet.
What is currently annoying me though is the use of "trans female". We clung on to the word "female" as it was useful for referring to actual real biological (groan) sex given that the word "woman" no longer conveyed its original meaning. Leave our words alone!
My favourite news of the week, as usual. Thank you JL.
And so the cleansing of woke ideology begins. I'm an old leftie who never thought four years ago that Donald Trump's return would actually be good news for women's rights. (As an aside, Trump's stance on abortion is against an outright band and leaving it to individual states to decide - thereby taking it out of federal politics so even this does not make him anti women).
The president elect said it to the country, 'there are only two genders', and only now Democrats feel brave enough to speak out. It makes us realise how gender critical people were silenced by their own 'liberal' party.
I would credit Elon Musk for giving back a voice to gender critical Twitter members when he got rid of those trans activists which kept cancelling us and Libs of TikTok have been great too.
