It's such a missed opportunity for them, too. I mean, I don't want to give them ideas or anything, but imagine if they just *owned* the 'past mistake'. If they'd said "Well, we used to use that word but now the movement has evolved and we're all a bit more mature and we've done all totally legit philosophising and shit and we've listened to our community, we now realise that we should move away from the word."
Because the end game is absolutely to drop the 'x' and drop the 'trans' and everything leading up to it is gaslighting. What better way to show the legitimacy of a movement than to demonstrate growth and maturity? "We felt it was necessary to use the x and t words in the past because we were struggling for acceptance, but we now feel able to reach out as true women and men...."
Or whatever. The point is that this bullshit practically writes itself, but the TAs always end up self-owning instead. I mean, *good*, it makes this easier, but holy fuck it's painful to watch situations handled so badly, time after time.
On a similar note, did you notice Katy Montgomerie being outed as a transphobe on Twitter? That's just *hilarious*.
This term "womxn" is a term that truly was used by a segment of women in the early days of the women's movement. It was used by the women who advocated complete separatism from the world of males (hence the x in the middle of man), if memory serves. Thankfully, that was put to the side by most women involved in the movement. As everyone probably knows, TERF is a term thought up by a woman also but used as a descriptor only not a pejorative. These things have a way of coming back to haunt us.
Oh that's interesting. I don't remember that! I do recall use of the word 'womyn' in some feminist circles at one time, to rid us of the 'men', but I've only become aware of 'womxn' in recent years being used by blokes in lipstick. And, yes, the more knowledgeable TRAs (thankfully few & far between!) love to throw the 'TERF fact' back in our faces, don't they?!
"For a group to have integrity, its members must truly believe what it stands for (and says it stands for). However, destructive groups change the “truth” to fit the needs of the situation because they believe that the ends justify the means. Helping to “save” someone is a rationalization used to justify deceit or manipulation. Legitimate organizations don’t change their doctrine to deceive the public."
I am definitely going to follow up reading Ophelia Benson, the feminist philosopher Arty mentioned in this latest video. Par for the course, Amazon, Abe Books, even Thrift Books sell most feminist books at premium prices. I find if I put one on my list the price sometimes rises into the stratosphere right away. I then take it off my list. One joker on Amazon posts the cheapest price (around $24) of her book "Does God Hate Women" but tacks on a $12 shipping fee hoping no doubt no one will notice. Abe & Thrift are even more expensive than the top Amazon price of $35. I will check to see if she has a website and if the book is on line. Anyway, the video interview with Arty was great.
You have to admire how they are prepared to make complete cocks of themselves in their desperation to hate on women. Misogyny is quite the drug.
Wish I'd been a fly on the wall when the penny dropped!

Oh really! Sadly the fragrant Katy has blocked me. I miss all the fun!
Yes! Katy is one of the few TAs who *hasn't* blocked me. Presumably because she does so like to deliver occasional preachy sermons at me.

Oh those precocious kids! And after everything Katy has done for them...
Everyone who doesn't do as I do is a TERF! + Time = I never did that and it's TERFs that do!
Terf as I say terf and nerf as I do terf. Or something :-)
But it was their bloody idea in the first place!!
I know! 😂
Idiots
The innocent look of a Great Dane who thinks he is a lap dog, after he has been reprimanded for jumping on Grandma's lap: "Did I do that?"
Pink news bolloxed it up again.
😂
Genuinely the best laugh of the week.
Thank you, Issy! Glad to have provided you with a giggle!

Yes indeed, JL, re your last point. Hope you can keep up the amazing work you do without feeling too despondent.
Ah thank you so much for your kind words & concern, Telos. I'm an eternal optimist & manage to keep cheerful!
