First of all, enjoy this photo of Sian Berry, Amelia Womack and everyone’s favourite paedophile-adjacent influencer, Aimee Challenor!
This whole thing came from my spotting this tweet last night from Julie Bindel.
And boy, do clowns keep coming out this particular clown car. Here is a transcript of the biggest howlers.
Nick Humberstone
“I don’t think we’re going to get any good solution on this issue if we’re trying to define a word because people have different interpretations. That’s all I really have to say. I don’t think it’s a very productive question to be honest.”
Tom Pashby
“I’d like to draw people’s attention to a poll published last week. A majority of women in the UK support trans people’s rights to self-identify, despite years of relentless transphobia. That is the headline. It’s a very simple question but obviously it’s heavily loaded and I don’t think we should be getting into political debate about the specifics of what it is to be a woman. A cis woman (sic) who can’t give birth is no less of a woman and you can apply that to people that identify as women. They’re not all going to be in the same exact characteristics. Some women are more feminine some women are more masculine so yeah, it’s not really something that we should be debating”
Amelia Womack
“I don’t think we can talk about this in binary choices, it’s more complex than that. As a proud feminist my feminism has always been intersectional. I am very proud of the trans women that I work with whose experiences have strengthened parts of our movement and ensure that we’re challenging the bigger issues at hand and that is the patriarchal systems that oppress all women. We should work together with all of our sisters.”
Cleo Lake
“For me personally I believe in diversity and unity within diversity and I think very often our differences are what make us collectively very, very strong. I would also like to say I’ve become, without having had time yet to dig in to all the ins and outs… very disappointed to hear of rows, internal rows .. in our Green Party community. Being a woman is an attitude.”
Womack is the most interesting to me. I found her interview on LBC today a masterclass of aggressive evasion, everything that has been keeping people like Challenor safe from scrutiny for years. It’s astonishing. She tries everything. She begins by claiming the concept of debate itself is somehow bigoted, and then, as soon as she realises that Ali is about to ask her about men being admitted to/in charge of rape crisis centres, she yelps with panic that “as a woman”, she is more entitled to speak than him. What a pathetic display.
The fun starts at about 35:30
(Also hilarious watching Iain Dale trying to understand the argument and not get cancelled.)
I asked Miranda Yardley, who is trans, for a statement: “‘Yet again Amelia Womack demonstrates her bad judgement by not responding to the challenges posed by gender ideology, which resulted in her giving Aimée Challenor a get out of male free card and allowed him to disproportionately influence GPEW policy.
It was a lack of critical thinking on this issue which led to the debacle around Wi Spa: gender ideology is protecting dangerous sexually abusive men, and creating an unacceptablly risky environment for women and girls, an environment where the activities of predatory men are allowed to flourish, rather than being challenged and stopped.’
Follow the link to see Tamsin Ormond giving a content warning for her opponent for sexism and transphobia. Of course, Ali never said anything as viciously misogynistic as this.
To sum up! If you’re GC and you recently joined the greens, here’s how to keep these misogynistic chancers away from any position of power. And if you’re on the fence, you have to ask yourself how the Greens will tackle climate change, if they’re also so terribly confused about the birds and the bees.
So a women who cannot give birth and a women who looks masculine are to be considered the same as a man with no surgery whatsoever who simply id’s as a women, fucking infuriating and fucking offensive. How can someone even write that down and not see it!
Shahrah Ali has my vote. Joined the greens especially to cast it!
