Oh, fucking hell the URL is still the same. Oh, well, I do think it's true. Susie Green should be in jail.

It is, easier to jail women for not paying their TV license (or not paying the fines given to them for not paying their TV license which is the same thing) than it is to take women like this monster to court and jail her for huge human rights abuses. There is little justice in the world for women.

So gender dysphoria may present as....feelings of uncertainty/decreased gender dysphoria.

Or "Grab them quick before they escape!"

Shocking, and I thought I was unshockable on this stuff.

Grab them and set up so many anxieties they won't try to escape, by then the predator will look like a rescuer. Because virtually nothing has been left off their list of indicators. All kinds of imprecise conclusions could be drawn, and are being drawn.

AFAIR, Susie Green tweeted that slide from a talk at WPATH conference a few years ago. I remember a MN thread on it. Of course, their whole raison d'etre is to create gender dysphoria by making children feel bad for not conforming to stereotypes they really love to push, then offering the 'solution' in the form of drugs and surgery. No wonder 'increased gender dysphoria' is on there. Cunning.

I also recall she tweeted another slide, approvingly, which was calling for there t be NO requirement at all for psychological assessment for minors. NONE

I am not new to this, but the craziness takes some time to comprehend. So let me get this straight, she is spreading this ideology on the basis that something something (unclear definition open to interpretation) means gender dysphoria (unclear definition open to interpretation) so you must immediately 'treat' this (unclear definition open to interpretation) and don't wait as it's dangerous (unclear definition open to interpretation) in order to attain this goal or outcome of being or becoming 'trans' (unclear definition open to interpretation) and there must be no 'barriers' (unclear definition open to interpretation). Oh sure, Susie, go ahead. That's sounds sane. And it's rife in schools, councils and the NHS. *gulp*

Yep. It's mad, and abusive. And all because Jack wasn't a good enough boy for her

I wonder how much her claim that it was her husband who couldn't handle having an effeminate son is true. Could it be that her behaviour is just an elaborate way to let her son be effeminate in a way that conforms to her husbands preferences.

I think that she wanted a girl. Look at the attention given in her TED talk to how Jackie looks - the bikini shot; the fact that very soon after the SRS he was entered into a Beauty Contest and that was filmed for the BBC programme Transexual Teen to Beauty Queen. It was some sort of wish-fulfillment on her part - despite what she says on the TED talk, her actions suggest she is mired in stereotypes. i think it gave her a lot of attention too. And a job.

As far as I can see, Susie Green worked in IT for a Citizen's Advice Bureau and her education is listed as some distance-learning college called Princes2. So how the hell did people end up taking her seriously as some kind of authority on pharmaceutical & surgical intervention in children?

The same people who will ignore Miriam Cates - with her Cambridge degree in genetics - when she talks about gender, will listen to Susie Green who is demonstrably a moron. They'll even give her a Ted Talk.

There was a huge push for 'experts by experience' in many areas and sadly in mental health and anything else where they could get work done by volunteers or those who could volunteer their time. It meant the gradual erosion of genuine expertise in many areas. Now anyone can pipe up, online or not, setting themselves up as an expert or 'consultant' in anything. It's short term and a decision to outsource knowledge. Their opinion is given the same status as any professional, or someone with skills, qualifications and experience. Go and give talks, get a cheap website, be a representative and spokesperson and start winning contracts. Get a veneer of respectability. It's very common in 'community engagement'. Then you become the 'go to' and bingo you get a TED talk and profile all of your very own. It's flimflam nothing.

However, as the mother of a young person with Down's Syndrome and Autism I *do* consider myself much more of an expert than many of the medical and educational professionals we have had the misfortune to deal with (not all). Similarly I have only had diagnosed metastatic cancer for 9 months but I am more of an expert in what that is like than all the oncologists who have never had cancer. You educate yourself pdq .

It's frankly beyond comprehension that she has so much power with little intelligence. When Ollie Lambert, producer, made a Channel 4 documentary Trans Kids: We Need to Talk,

she was given an opportunity to "talk". As Lambert said, those who think they're right are eager to talk to whoever will listen but she declined for all sorts of childish reasons .

They are probably unaware of this. It's not like Mermaids is advertising this. This is more or less internal material presented to a very restricted and sympathetic audience.

Sure, but the government, all government agencies and anything they fund or support are under an obligation and duty of care to be circumspect. They haven't been.

Mermaids have been allowed a platform in 'training' so many areas of civil society. I am really getting damn sick of the 'unaware' excuse any official might use.

It's horrifying to see how something that's unambiguously a social construct - how we are supposed to behave as men or women - is used to medicalize people who have a hard time to adjust socially anyways and who are known to be highly suggestible - or to further ostracize them. Instead of promoting tolerance for autistic people this org seems to have chosen to exclude the very people they claim to represent from society. But, as horrifying as these statements are, they DO NOT say that gender dysphoria presents as autism. Rather that autism can lead to conditions that are similar to gender dysphoria in a very social sense, and in a social sense only. Nevertheless, this amounts to abandoning all safeguards for autistic children and feeding them to the trans quacks.

Just making the connection in an affirmative way practically aknowledges the validity of TRA's claims. It makes it much harder for parents of autistic children to make the distinction between "My child doesn't adopt gender roles because of autism" and "My child has autism because it was born in the wrong body". My guess is that a lot of parents are willing to accept the latter explanation because it gives them hope that their child's problems will somehow disappear.

If you adopt ideological terminology you always and up accepting the logic and arguments behind the ideology. You are handing control of discussion and discourse to someone else. That's always dangerous.

Eek. I didn't want to look. The Gender Crowd have utterly captured the market. And Bowlbylike theories are still floating about sadly enough. I am always surprised at medical, clinical, psychological or psychiatric theories that turn out are just the guesses of one or two key figures that snowballed and became entrenched as theories that underpin so much clinical practice and belief. Until another individual comes along with a counter theory many decades (or centuries) later.

They must be. All the autistic women groups I used to be in are now about "queer" and "non-binary" stuff.

Expand full comment

Not necessarily. Their arguments are somewhat different. They (still) see some gender related problems some autists have as a result and symptom of autism as opposed to the other way round. But it's clear that they have been swallowed up by the Creed of the Unicorn, nontheless. They have been lovebombed into believing that embracing trans ideology makes them part of a bigger group fighting for social acceptance. A slippery slope as we can see.

Well put Brent. Quite astonished at the slide and it's fairly hard to believe it's real. On what basis have they come up with that list? What fake psychiatryish/psychobabbleism is that all based upon? It means nothing. It's supposition. And that's a 'training' session? To? Teachers? Doctors? Psychiatrists? Local government officers? MPs? Judges? Social workers? It takes snake oil to new heights. And their get out is 'may' present. Yeah, sure. Keep adding to the list as everything is now a symptom of whatever they want. Let's lobby to get things in Psych manuals and then lobby to get them out.

Why don't they add 'living in a building with or without a roof' or 'drinking water' and 'eating food' or 'breathing air' or 'walking on the ground' as these may also be an urgent symptom of gender dysphoria and needs urgent and radical treatment. Oh and look, here we are grifting away ready to provide you with the definitive answers and 'solutions'. To problems that are manufactured and do not exist. But if you suggest, coerce, and tell people enough and create enough doubt, make them feel vulnerable and unsure, anything is possible.

...and wait a moment, that last bullet point? Gender dysphoria may present as decreased gender dysphoria? So if you don't have gender dysphoria that may be a presentation of gender dysphoria? Well that's genius, as long as everything is always gender dysphoria that's alright then Mermaids?

So this is how everything and anything for everyone is all now sucked into 'must be gender dysphoria'. Got it. It explains a lot.

Yes, and for a very long time. TED as an organisation should be ashamed of enabling her and letting her reach such a large audience and lending her credibility too.

I remember first learning about Malthus and Boserup. I lean more towards the fact it's making some a lot of money and cock up rather than conspiracy but who knows.

Expand full comment

That was the cynic in me... I doubt that this is a conspiracy per se, even though trans ideologues certainly know how to conspire. But deep down, it's just modern and politically correct irrationality, effectively a form of Magical Thinking. Reality disappears as soon as you start renaming it or to pretend it doesn't exist. While it presents in many fashionably and learned terms, it's more or less an amalgam of age old superstitions. Their obsession with names - and by extention with pronouns - for example can be seen for what it is if you read up on exorcisms or study the Hammer of the Witches. It's so obviously the same I find it surprising it's not called out more often.

Expand full comment

Phew :-). I wish I was officially studying what it is about us that now, in 2022, allows us to split apart what's convenient or useful and indulge in exactly that magical thinking. And how we do or don't fit that in with other magical thinking and the magical thinking of others. And how we do that as individuals and groups or whole societies. What we think affects us, what we think affects others. How we make decisions.

A bit of Stevie seems apt here. Wash your face and hands!

What Chris said reminds me of the time an acquaintance of mine told me she'd had a dream that I won the lottery, so she told me I HAD to go out and buy lottery tickets. I told her that I don't play the lottery, and it was just a dream. She got so incredibly angry at me, because her dream was OBVIOUSLY prescient of a likely future, didn't I understand that?!? :-/

Of course we all have a propensity for Magical Thinking. Our societies were just better at restricting that largely to a private level for a while - although there have always been exceptions, such as horoscopes in newspapers in the past decades (they haven't always been around), astrology, alternative "medicine", and, of course, religion. We could deal with that without it causing too much harm overall for some 30, 40 years after WW II. The "New Age Revolution" and the rise of Postmodernism chipped away many of the societal safeguards and rather predictably, Magical Thinking returned. It did so along culturally well established tropes, but in the learned words of Academia, or those parts at least that postmodernously had started to celebrate blissful ignorance. And there are also less obvious sources such as Trickle Down Economics. But the main point is: In principle, it was always there, and we as society have failed miserably keeping it at bay.
