Thank you so much for this -- very thorough. This one really got to me -- an AGP woman-hating, rape apologist is paid (by the public) to bully, and proselytize, for the 'gender' cult. Watched his TEDx Brighton talk -- all he talks about is his suicidal ideation, a common ploy of controlling abusers. Speak Out Champion? For whom? Not for decent, law abiding people, that's for sure. Better he'd been appointed as Shut Up Champion, with his contract terms stipulating that he never again utter another public word.

Thank you JL. I couldn't believe this when I saw his appointment. I knew his name and backstory and have been reading through his Tweets again. It's a litany. It was a double take at his name - this is grotesque from start to finish and that they openly and proudly have employed this openly misogynist man who uses such incautious and aggressive, insulting language to women under the guise of EDI 'trans rights'. This is a man. The CPS have lost even more respect, if that was possible. What the f**k are they playing at? He is clearly not a fit and proper person for that role.

Rape conviction rates? Hello? Anyone? What is the CPS culture and how did it get so utterly rotten? If you can convince the police - where he 'trains' them and is shown cheesily smiling with officers - to investigate crimes then you face the CPS barrier. We have no chance. And we hear this message loud and clear.

I am struggling to read - not because I'm a whining, moaning woman who is never happy Steve - but in shock because I am effin FUMING. That salary is for four days a month. A month! Per annum, sure, and pro rata is that? Cushty mate, cushty. How dare they. I think those who work for airlines and airports should up their day rate. Which is the more useful role to society? Them or this awful Les Dawson tribute act?? This man is a mechanic and a photographer. Now he's another sudden 'expert'.

Stuff your made up endlessly reinvented for no purpose new 'rights' up your cakehole.

The amount of sexual harassment I have experienced at work, as I work in a male-dominated profession was and is just accepted. When I had to dress up smartly for work events I would have to remain steely polite and professional as I was propositioned and groped by drunken men 'celebrating' their professional achievements. We women were often advised to attend work events in pairs so we had back up. We were warned about the gropers. Our decent male colleagues were embarrassed and agreed little signals if they needed to rush over to politely excuse us from awkward situations with the minimum of fuss. I used to write technical policy, briefings and little speeches for men to give whilst putting up with this shit. And I have bloody well had enough.

Oh this is awful & makes my heart ache. What we women have to endure just getting through life... I can't remember who it was said it but the quote "Men should think ourselves lucky women only want equality and not revenge" is so true.

This is really going to increase women's confidence in a system which massively fails them already, miniscule levels of prosecution for alleged sexual abuse being one aspect. Unbelievable.

Okay JL. Just as I was feeling good after your good news post, you bring me down with all this shit. Couldn't you have left it for little bit longer. I am definitely going to write to my MP about the appointment of Sophie Cook.

Oh sorry, Stroppy! (I'm not in charge of scheduling... you'll have to blame my editor! 😉)

I am writing to my MP but finding that I am lifting quite a lot from your article. I could reword it all but it is already well written. Can I have your permission to use your words please?

Of course you can, Stroppy! Part of the reason I write these articles is for people to use them when campaigning. No need to ask permission! 😊

“Sophie Cook on spelling women as womxn”

Isn’t it great that men with obvious mental health issues are listened to as they tell women how to be women?!

Expand full comment

Did you notice he tried to make out that 'Womxn is inclusive of black women...' as if they're not already included in the word 'woman'!! They always give themselves away, don't they?

Expand full comment

Philosophically incoherent, phonetically unpronounceable.

Expand full comment

That they do: black women and disabled women put in the same category as men. Nice. Racist and misogynistic in one fell swoop.

Expand full comment

I wonder if he was asked why he thought black women and disabled women weren't simply women, and, in his opinion, need to be in the same category as him. I doubt it. There's no reason for it unless he doesn't he doesn't regard black women as fully women. As that seems to be the case, he should be asked to explain himself.

But no, don't so that, just write about this jerk being given a position that requires him to 'work' a few days a month for over 30 grand. It's only the inclusivity hating terf scum who'd complain anyway.

I'm calmed down a bit now from sheer fuming rage to a more smouldering resolute anger about this man. Looking at his back catalogue was instructive if just as boring as always as it's espousing such common views that lie just under the surface. He could have easily been questioned as you have suggested in that dire 'womxn' interview if the interviewer had chosen to. Whenever these ideas and concepts are scrutinised just a little they are revealed for what they are. A loud brash cover for the nasty tropes many live by. Too many interviewers allow these things go.

They seem such stupid, offensive, racist and silly baseless meanderings because that is what they are, but because that's so obvious it seems many are baffled by the lack of logic to have no come back. He said all that out loud on camera. He is so firm in his delusions. He has built his 'new' life and career around it (after all in his TEDx talk he said he 'murdered' 'Sophie' then miraculously brought 'her' back to life which is a neat trick sadly unavailable to actually murdered women). It can't be taken seriously. That's why it's been allowed to go unchallenged. We must keep challenging and highlighting it, despite how wearingly familiar, hard and unprofitable this feels. Allowing this in at the edges (to be 'nice' and 'kind') has been the fig leaf that let it seep into the heart of government, non-departmental and arm's length bodies. Every aspect of the state.

It's still remarkable to me that the CPS have somehow seen fit to employ him in an EDI role that seems such a deliberate two fingers up to us. He represents them apparently. And if challenged on any of this I have a feeling the blame will be directed outwards again with a few more mental health dead cat distractions. He has the magic, Teflon, invisible free pass to everywhere. I think he's very human, and although he can carry on personally thinking I'm less than sub-human all he likes he should not be promulgating that in any advisory capacity.

I thought about it but I think this appointment is so egregious he should lose his job. I will be writing to the Attorney General, Suella Braverman, to question whether he is fit to continue in this role.

How much longer do women have to suffer waste of space, manipulative, misogynistic dickheads like Cook? Suffer them at all, but particularly when they are given positions of authority and influence. And what the fuck was he talking about regarding 'womxn'? This is a spelling that was first used by feminists to make the point that women weren't an adjunct of men. It wasn't coined to make men feel less excluded.

Cook is all about inclusivity, of course, so womxn is also better because it will include 'women of colour', despite that they, like all other women are included in the word woman by virtue of being women. That doesn't really interest him though, the only inclusion he's concerned about is that of transwomen. What a predicament. The word woman not including men like him! Worse still, women wanting it kept that way, as though defining themselves is should be down to them.

I wonder...some of the actions of the gender identity lobby seem to be more about sewing outrage, distraction, confusion among its adversaries.....such as the appointment of this misogynist female-identifying male inclusion and diversity "Champion" than they do about actually helping trans-identifying people, much less about being a neutral advocate for underrepresented demographics.

I wonder if actions such as this are just the metaphorical "we just want to pee" assertions, followed by female-identifying males peeing on the toilet seat and floor in stalls in women's communal toilets.

I also wonder if this metaphorical peeing in inappropriate spaces is part of the sexual fetish..that these men relish the outraged reactions to their actions.

That fawning tweet from Labour Women's Network, congratulating him for robbing women of a place on the Jo Cox Women in Leadership programme, FFS. Labour's retch-inducing way to honour the memory of a female MP murdered by a man. A man who took evil advantage of her trust in people, her instinct to serve others.

Unilaterally declaring 'Everyone @LabourWomensNet and @UKLabour is proud of you!' Compliance declared. No dissent allowed.

They cut off his head from the photo. I've never seen an accompanying such photo that cut off the recipient's face. All the better to smuggle the lie, make Labour women and men sleepwalk past this travesty?

I remember fury and revulsion at this. We see you, Labour.

I know... it's heartbreaking, isn't it? That scheme was set up to encourage women into politics, to redress the balance of female MPs. And they take on a bloke who has enjoyed half a lifetime of male privilege. And not for the first time either, of course...
