I'm not remotely surprised. I went to an ivy league university. Coming from a working class family that discouraged higher education for women, I slipped in the back door by getting a job there. I worked in the business school and then the president's office. I'm sure it's no surprise that I learned far more working there than attending classes. Higher learning my arse, they are purely money driven institutions. And bastions of conservatism. It was there in the early 90's I took a biology of women course, cross listed with biology, nursing and women's studies. It was absolutely sodden with queer theory (thought that term was never mentioned.) Given my background I was intrigued by the idea that what I thought were the limitations of my biology were merely ideological impositions. It wasn't long after this I met my ex, a man who said he was actually a woman born in the wrong body. I've talked about the gruelling years that ensued with G. I recently tried to google that course. The women's studies department is gone, of course. I learned though that transitioning is now included in tuition. Student health will even kindly refer students to a surgeon at the med school. This whole travesty is going nowhere in the US. These poor young people will be volleyed back and forth between the medical establishment and the legal system for years. It needs showing up for what it is over here, a ruthless American capitalist enterprise. Fuck Princeton, fuck the ivy league, these places produced the people that created this travesty and they exist to churn out more.
The new upside down world is all for profit. We'd be dishonest if we said we couldn't see how it has been slowly introduced over the years, piggy backing on other issues.

I totally agree. All "education" in the U.S. is a capitalist enterprise. Even community colleges have been infected with the business ethic, it's just that you get out with some training and without a huge debt load. As for our so-called elite schools, they just crank out minions to support the status quo or be our rulers. The economist Michael Hudson said years ago that if one didn't subscribe to the Wall Street ethos one couldn't get a job at the elite schools; consequently all the students get is indoctrination not information.
