No big surprise if you've seen the NZ Labour Party's 'Rainbow policy'. It reads like it was written by a child using crayons in SamSmith-safe colours. Thoughts and prayers etc and hope like fuck there's an outcry given New Zealand once led the world on women's rights.

I became really concerned that I might be changing sex when started eating more biscuits, drinking more wine, and developed a love of carrot cake, and ham sandwiches. I even told my wife about this fear but she just said I was getting a bit fat and needed to cut down on these things. Phew, I am glad to say after listening to her advice, nobody needs to call me Shirley.

If some lifelong centrist could weigh in...I drifted center from left a few years ago. I always felt that it was the right wing that has some fantasy of itself as righteous among heathens, out to save the world. Now I see that disgusting behavior and fantasied self-assessment on both sides of the spectrum. Both wings of the political spectrum in the US (part of the problem is we only have two) have grossly invalid self-perceptions as white saviors out to save the world. It's invocative of rage to read someone refer to dimorphic sex as eurocentric...humans originated in Africa and our present brain mass has been stable for 200 k yrs...is it really the fault of all those bigoted babies who keep coming out of female vaginas on every continent on earth? On what do these people blame fgm, child rape, and child marriage of MENA females?

About ten years ago in nursing school I watched as my classmates cheated through every test and homework assignment, texting answers over smartphones and partitioning off homework in blocks of questions so everyone would put in minimal effort. I think that's the problem with the internet generations, the digital natives save the honest ones...everyone is just getting through, no one is learning critical thinking...they probably even use google to tell them what to think. It's so dangerous a situation where people with such strong opinions are so. d*mn. stupid.

I would class myself as a centrist since the old definition of "left wing" used to be that it stood for the working class blue-collar worker. The old definition of right wing stood for the bosses and the management (The white-collar workers). That is not now the case. I think these days there are broader definitions based not on class but consistency of belief. The left appears to be internationalists and support open borders and a belief that morality belongs to those who can define themselves as a group and that no single set of moral imperatives should take precedence. The right believes that national borders apply and that the majority rules and that we can and should instate the moral imperative of the majority. I live in England, and voted for Brexit and believe that everyone should read and understand the manifesto of the parties they vote for. Both sides are a broad church. Not all right wingers would agree with everything I want. I dont necessarily agree with everything the right wing wants. My view is that a new class is emerging, those who reject right and left and centre and vote here for one thing, there for another. I dont think the left and right exist anymore is what I am trying to say, but we have a vague feeling they do. Back in the 80's and 90's I voted labour, when labour supported workers, gay and lesbian rights and the equality of women and of race. These days The conservatives support the exact same things. I dont support labour because they also fly in the face of reason by supporting trans rights to a greater extent than the conservatives. So I supported Brexit, I voted conservative, I voted UKIP, I will vote Laurence Fox. It doesnt mean I dont support gay, lesbian, and black rights. It just means I support them differently to the left wing

things have shifted dramatically in the US in the last 15 yrs too...the independent partition used to be a relatively small block of voters, it went from being ten percent smaller than both parties 15 yrs ago to now being the largest by far at 40%. Politicians must be sweating bullets about this huge, unpredictable group of voters.

I totally agree. I'm not sure if it is just the English speaking world, because I only speak English and havent the time or curiosity to learn another language. I honestly know little about the way American politics is set up I thought (probably very wrongly) that the constitution only allows for two parties to contest presidential elections. From what you are saying it seems the USA and UK populations are rethinking what they believe and rejecting old fashioned systems of belief. It's nice to know, I know ignorance should not be excused but I hope you will forgive me if I don't know enough about the politics of the USA to say anything useful to you.

Utterly horrific. This is true erasure of women. To add: a female friend of mine in NZ told me only yesterday how herself and a whole class of women at her gym have to put up with a trans identified male posing as a woman wearing the tiniest pants ever, stretching and bending in front of them on equipment in the class, while his junk spills out, while also being as vocally obnoxious as ever.. She also told me that many of the POC/Maori trans population have said that biological sex is a white man construct to control them and their two spirits since colonial times. : : eye roll central : :

To be fair the strict, drunken, proselytising, sex mad, missionary invasion in the Pacific has not served the indigenous people or the women of that tribe well here (that’s an understatement). It’s pretty messy and sexist here and this isn’t going to fix any of it but cost women dearly. The MRA incel lash back for any progress at all which has never been fully integrated into society anyway. Much much more to come on what happens to women and children in New Zealand.

Erasure of sex and failure to record or govern properly and oppress over half the population in the interests of the wealthy and men are the easy go to options to maintain desired narratives. Who writes history wins.

I spent some years identifying as a pony, clipclopping everywhere. My parents denied me the surgery that might have turned me into a quadruped, and transpeciesphobic ponies kicked me when I tried to invade their safe spaces.

You'll be pleased to hear you were at one point also my great great aunt Corisande. Filthy rich but married to a deeply dodgy lawyer and permanently 97 years old and residing in a four-poster bed. Until you morphed.

Graham - I have spent 2 days discussing sex v gender with a male and a female who both labelled me TERF and transphobic because I’m gender critical. I tried to use rational argument but I was going further down a rabbit hole. It was exhausting. In the end one said - what would it take you to change your mind on gender identity ideology? My response? A frontal lobotomy.

On the bright side (just) it may make it very difficult to create an AI to replace us any time soon. How could an AI ever answer the question ‘are you binary or non-binary?’ with the answer non-binary, or ‘ it’s a gloomy Tuesday but you are wearing honey-love-pink Mac lipstick, what sex will you be on Saturday?’ Unless the tech geeks in SV have already hit on this problem so have updated the Turing test and are causing today’s chaos as a ploy to generate more data so they can continue in their quest to create a new life form.
