@Graham Linehan TRAs are unhappy today with the new Hate Crime Bill in Ireland, so it mustn't be too awful for the GCs.

Some politicians might not have enough life experience, or are too privileged to understand - they shouldn’t be in the job. Sturgeon has become a corrupt person in my opinion. The whole thing is shocking

I’m ashamed to be Scottish today. Every person who voted for Stage 1 should never be voted for by any woman again.

Or any parent, gay person.

They are all on record now. Any virtue signalling about women’s rights and they will be reminded of this every time

They won’t as this is all hidden

Deliberately as they know the public opposes it. When they sent out their email to members asking about the coalition with Scottish Greens the SNP listed about 10 things they could achieve together. Number 1 was indy, which has since been ignored. GRA change wasn't even in the list even though we all knew they were pushing it.

how revolting are these pictures of deranged men

Expand full comment

Absolutely. I’ve just been sitting in my flat reading this and yelling out loud about these pornified sick fucks! Where do people think these blokes get their so-called “womanly” feelings from? The Magic Gender Fairy? Putting aside the gay men who also identify as female for homophobic reasons, the rest of these men get it from objectification of women and porn. It’s SO OBVIOUS. I walk around London spotting these fetishists parading their paraphilia for all to see. How do so many people not see this?? (e.g. recently had an argument with a male friend who thinks “transwomen” are all fragile and oppressed. 🙄 Does my bloody head in.)

I just can't wrap my head around it, how can those voting not see the implications of this, just how? It defies all logic. Utterly sickening and frankly terrifying.

Maybe they do and they just don't care

What depresses me, is how many women seem to be happily selling other members of their sex down the river. Are they stupid, corrupt, ignorant or all three?

Expand full comment

So people who look at those men are like, "I only see women." So insulting. NO women have penises. No men are women.

I will never accept any of these freaks as women, so what happens to me!

Dreadful news. Can the UK Govt, namely Sunak, stop it going through?

I thought that Suella Braverman was bringing to attention of Scottish Gov technical points where there would be legal friction. I can't remember exact points. But they were not difficult.

Expand full comment

was it to do with the Office for National Statistics?

Expand full comment

You are correct, but that was several weeks ago, a couple of Prime Ministers, Chancellors and Home Secretaries. Westminster has been distracted. It's not absolutely clear if Scotland is able to make these changes and definitely isn't clear if England and Wales have to accept Scottish GRCs (since you would have an age limit of 18 and ours would be 16, yourself would have a medical diagnosis, ours wouldn't, etc.

I assume that even if this Bill does pass both stage 2 and stage 3 Westminster can still stick their oar in.

Hope so 🙏

Gender recognition act is national legislation, the issuing of gender recognition certificates is a devolved power. So not in an obvious way is my understanding.

Expand full comment

Only if legally it is outside the legislative competence of the Scottish Parliament. Devolved competence is highly technical and there are a number of legal tests involved in assessing it, including whether it is compatible with the Human Rights Act. I have not followed this issue so I am unsure how far this legislative proposal has progressed, but SP lawyers will have to assess the Bill for competence once introduced. If this has occurred, then the assessment will have included a review of the Bill’s HR compliance. If Westminster is of the opinion that the Bill is outside competence or raises a devolution issue, they can seek a reference to the Supreme Court to assess it. It can fail in other ways too, for example if it seeks to amend protected enactments like the HRA, or strays into reserved areas of competence such as equalities law, although there are carve outs to that reservation. I wrote a longer post about the equalities and HR considerations elsewhere on this post. I hope that helps.

The earliest such saying that I'm aware of was from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

"The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.

To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.

To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."

It was Billy Connolly. “The desire to become a politician should forever prevent you from being one”!

The GRA should be scrapped, not amended. It was only brought in so transpeople could marry the opposite sex in the days before same sex marriage. It's not necessary now. Anyone can dress how they want and change their body or their name. No one needs a bit of paper.

The concept is absurd. While there is no definition for 'living as a woman' there are many things that demonstrate you are NOT 'living as a woman'. Rape, flashing, sexual assaults are all male pattern crime. Living in your acquired gender is a requirement for a GRC, so why aren't the certificates rescinded for male rapists or TIFs who get pregnant?
