And so the slow trickle begins of decent and aware people at last 'coming out' in support of something about which there should be no argument - sense, reason and scientific evidence.

It is pleasing to see, but one cannot help but ask, 'What took them'?

I'm glad he said it but also dreading the seemingly inevitable abject apology and promise to "do better."

For sure he could do better, he could add on that transwomen are men and they have no business in women's spaces. 😁

Maybe there's nothing to dread in this instance. Ralph Fiennes has had a long time to think about what he said, and what the consequences could be for him. He will have seen other people speak out, then quickly humiliate themselves with grovelling apologies.

True, and I will allow myself to hope that will be the case.

he did a soft launch of supporting JK in 2021 - https://www.indiewire.com/2021/03/ralph-fiennes-defends-jk-rowling-hatred-disturbing-1234624445/

so I think he might stick around.

That's great. What a total shit Radcliffe is, hiding behind the 'we're not experts, so let's listen to the people who are' crap. I wonder what kind of expertise he'd require to understand that misogyny harms women. Listening to women perhaps? Probably not. That prick is worth tens of millions because of the achievements of one woman, and he dismisses her as having no expertise in her life as she's lived and experienced it, and the opinions and conclusions she's reached as a consequence.

If I was JKR I'd make that little guy crawl before I forgave him. But she seems nicer than me.

Haha! Nicer than I am too!

Yeah .Totally shameful and so disloyal to the woman responsible for their fame and stardom.👎💔

Ever notice that in epic films, the villains are often played by the most talented actors while the protagonists are "the right faces for the role"?

In this case the right faces were two faced.

This doesn’t surprise me. My brother was an extra on one of his movies in the 90s and said he was really nice and helped him and his gf get extra roles in the film.

Maybe, at long last, the tide is actually turning. Why it has taken so long is anybody's business. It's not as though it's complicated.

I was so angry and disappointed that he said something so facile, dumb arse and offensive. He should think about what he said and what he was commenting on. A misogynistic man claiming to be a woman..."only bloody transgender, ain't I?". No, just a fetishist and an exhibitionist. But Isaacs thinks he's a 'her', and called his behaviour dignified. Idiot.

Was he texting drunk or as a wind up? Waggling your penis over a keyboard is dignified is it? No words have any meaning any longer do they? They really do take the piss - it was clearly the deliberate opposite of 'dignified'. I suppose you could soil yourself and smear that in the faces of your audience and some numpty would claim that too is a 'dignified' fight for 'civil rights'.

Expand full comment

It would be nice to think it was either of those things, though if it was a wind up it was a pointless one, bearing in mind the crap others will have up with about the antics of that arsehole. His admiration for the tits and dick is pretty grim, and as for dignified, compared to what? The spectacle that is the British parliament isn't good enough. Possibly it's the one you give, but, like you say, in the right context that too could end up being dignified.

Good man - that takes courage. It shows you how deranged the situation is when a man saying that death & rape threats are disgusting, is controversial and requires bravery. Of course most people will admire Fiennes' courage but the entertainment industry is largely terrified of the screeching morons on twitter and allows them to dictate its response.

So strange. Was just watching a documentary on Hever Castle and they mentioned the Fiennes family once owned it. Seconds later I opened Graham’s Substack to see this post.

It's a shame he felt he had to qualify it by saying, “I mean, I can understand a viewpoint that might be angry at what she says about women." Unless I've missed something, I can't think of a single thing JKR has said about women that would make people (apart from the obvious freaks and crackpots) angry.
