I was at court today while Marion Millar was being harassed by a police force and legal system that think women need to be more polite while they watch their rights being stripped away by abusive fetishists. Driving to where she would be accused by the State of homophobia and transphobia, she gave a lift to her friends Mister Menno and Seven Hex, a gay man and a transexual.
Seven said “That a Scottish man complained about a ribbon on a wire fence is stupid, but not the most stupid thing about this. The most stupid thing is that instead of telling him to fuck off, the Police went "Yeah, we think there's a case to answer." And then instead of telling the Police to fuck off, the PF went, "Yeah, we agree." And NOW, instead of telling the prosecution to fuck off - after tearing them a new one for wasting the court's time - the judge hasn't thrown it out, and has a continuance to look into potential human rights conflicts. This is not only an embarrassment to all Scots, but it's a disgrace, and antithetical to our concept of Justice.”
A BBC journalist approached me and said “They’re all old aren’t they? Young women disagree with you.” I was too tired after a sleepless night to say what I should have said, which was “You don’t know who agrees with what because on the day Marion Millar is going through this, they’re talking about curries on Woman’s Hour.”
I was proud to stand with these women who had disgracefully allowed themselves to age past forty. Instead of just sitting in a corner waiting to die, they were instead standing up for all women, whether those women appreciated it or not. The chants of “I stand with Marion Millar” and “Women’s rights are human rights” held their passion and volume right up until the moment Marion walked out of court.
While we were waiting, someone approached and said two women who had been watching with interest were ex-prisoners at two Scottish jails. Donna Henry told me there was a man in the last prison she was in. She could hear him having sex with another inmate in an adjoining cell. “It happens in Greenock, it happens in Stockdale. One was in Perth, he did a lot of his time in Perth, runs around in pigtails and all that. We have to share showers with them.”
Another scandal in plain sight, lying unnoticed while the authorities rifle through Marion Millar’s Twitter account, looking for rude words and thought crime. Scotland is heading to a very dark place indeed. But as Marion’s supporters today proved, it won’t get there without a fight.
Well, I'm a young woman (25) and I know *lots* of other young women who are with Marion!
Maybe he should have asked what was so terrible that the 77 year old standing next to me felt you had to stand for 3 hours holding a banner. Was proud to be there today and will be there till she is freed.
