I found this out recently. One in six East Germans citizens were informers for the Stasi. They weren’t even paid! They just liked telling on people. The photo is from a fancy dress party where Stasi members came dressed up as their surveillance targets.

sure. but in the book she also describes people who enjoyed doing it because they enjoyed being part of things/in the know etc. I guess I wanted to make the point that there is something in human nature that enjoys being on the side of the people in power. I think some trans rights activists fall into that category.
I recommend a wee visit to the Stasi Museum in Leipzig - free of course, and a real eye opener! I've been a few times now and just cannae believe the shit people got up to...
You can visit the former Hohenschönhausen prison in Berlin. My old boss took our team there on an away day. Wonder if he was trying to tell us something...
