Doctors is a daytime BBC medical soap opera that’s been running for over 20 years and it’s just broadcast two back-to-back episodes which seem to reach the moral conclusion that child safeguarding should be abandoned if the potential predator is transgender.
The story begins with one of the doctors, who has a 14-year-old daughter, who invites her male friend, Taylor, for a sleepover - in what appears to be her bed.
The father, a GP, concerned at this, states that her bedroom door must remain open throughout the night, and is portrayed as overbearing for demanding this. When the two children go into her room, the boy changes into a dress and they start painting each other’s nails.
The father walks past the room and, seeing that the door is shut, barges in to discover the boy is dressed as a girl.
He decides that the boy must therefore be gay and not sexually attracted to his daughter. However, his daughter reveals that he is therefore a bigot.
The next morning (the sleepover still goes ahead) the father, now portrayed as a dinosaur, decides to ask Taylor what it means to be ‘genderfluid’, and if that means he is sexually interested in his daughter. In response, he’s given a lecture stating that he must listen to trans people and not assume people’s biological sex (no reason is given why). Taylor also details - trigger warning - that some people don’t believe that gender fluidity is an actual thing, and he finds that upsetting because that means it feels like he doesn’t exist.
This talk completely wins the father over. Even though he was concerned that a boy was sexually attracted to, and sharing a bed with, his daughter, his concerns have now evaporated given the information that Taylor has given him. He then asks Taylor if he’s attracted to his daughter and Taylor nods - but it’s no longer an issue.
In fact, even though his daughter has said she doesn’t fancy Taylor, the father is so progressive that he now tries to encourage Taylor to pursue her. And it’s up to Taylor to say no.
The programme ends with the father being portrayed as someone who has gone on a journey from being square to cool. And now, armed with the knowledge of Taylor’s gender fluidity, Taylor is invited to sleep in his daughter’s bed anytime.
Remember: If you’re concerned that your 14-year-old daughter is sharing a bed with a boy - you’re a dinosaur if that boy says he doesn’t ‘identify’ as a boy. And most of the British public are paying £159 a year for this education.
Did he pick up that dress in Primark?
I guess the TV in TV Licence is for Transvestite.
