I’m confused because I thought cycling had banned males from entering as trans….

Expand full comment

British Cycling has suspended its policy, but there are still club events that have nothing to do with British Cycling, or races that are purely for fun rather than national ranking.

Expand full comment

"For fun"? Wonder if prize money was awarded to the winners? Wonder if the Gold and Silver Medal winners, the female-identifying male cyclists, each won more than the bronze winner, the adult human female? You know, the one who had, most probably, given birth to the toddler in her arms one or two years back. Bet that mother could have used the greater prize purse for Gold (assuming prize money was awarded) to support her young child.

It's a club based amateur event, prizes at something like this would usually amount to a few sponsor freebies (jerseys, caps etc) and a cash pot equivalent to a small office sweepstake if they're lucky. This is not professional sport, no one takes part to make money, it's their hobby.

Simplest solution in amateur sport is for women to vote with their feet and find (or form) better clubs. Professional sport and contact sports at all levels which will have injury concerns are a different matter.

Got it...thank you. But still...the woman, the adult human female, lost out on the 1st place glory.

Organised woman-hating, in corporately sponsored sport. What a lovely woman having her baby-daughter on the podium. She’s definitely signaling women here.

For those who don't know, this racing org (Thundercrit) created two "non-gendered" categories, one for women and those "whose physical performance aligns most closely with cis-women" and another for men which they pretend includes other humans of similar physical performance.

They did nothing to even enforce these questionable categories. Instead, they affirmed that they "trust competitors to select the category most appropriate for their performance".

So, yeah, no rules, no regs, just pricks who want to win prizes.

Indeed. Their rules and regs are facial. Meaningless and meandering.

The categories are so ludicrous it’s beyond belief. At this point I just fucking despise all the people making this scenario possible.

Yes, so do I, it's impossible not to, and it would be wrong not to. Some people going along with this do it simply because they don't like women and this allows them to express that, 'legitimately'. Others want to make a statement - 'this is how kind I am'. So fucking kind that they're going to enable the people who historically have determined women's lives and denied their rights, to do it again.

And those who know it's wrong but don't really want to think about or comment on it because it's nothing to do with them. Yeah, until it is.

I read an item in the Guardian 🤮 a few days ago, I think it's called Across the Table, where people with differing views share a meal, etc. In this instance, a middle aged man and a man in his late twenties. At one point, they discussed JK Rowling, the younger one was going on about transwomen's womanhood (the kind that allows their dicks and male privilege to remain intact) and how oppressed they are. Seemingly unaware that women are sort of oppressed and abused. They chatted about this and the older bloke agreed with him, deciding that transactivism - an extremely broad term - poses no threat to women and it's all a "storm in a teacup".

Men like him, and there will be millions of them, have a vote, and will be voting in favour of women losing more rights, because it's all a fuss about nothing.

Jun 4, 2022·edited Jun 4, 2022Liked by mole at the counter

Yup. It's the older white men with their guilt - those who are being made aware of their privilege and want to virtue signal/appease others (politicians, CEOS etc.), but who have no bloody idea what a struggle it can be as a woman because they have never experienced it and don't see it - who are enabling this. Talk to a goddammed woman, an old-fashioned penis-free one (as Ricky would say), and try listening instead of dismissing. Where I work, they have reverse mentoring and they seem to encourage anyone from a minority and younger employees but they never want to hear from the older employees and they do not realise how disenfranchised the older women are becoming. We fought tooth and nail not to be defined by a gender stereotype and here it is once again being used to define us and our reality. This sort of thing makes me spit with rage.

Expand full comment

Yes, exactly. These men have absolutely no idea what women experience, which is why further erosion of women's rights don't mean anything to them. They can have fun being seen to care about the rights of minority groups, which usually means patronising them them in order to feel good about themselves. Its fairly likely their interest and sincerity is questionable, but what does it matter? It's all bullshit and bluster.

I want these people to get some genuine insight into what it feels like to be disadvantaged, discriminated against and put in danger. I want to know if this would change their perspective and their priorities, and if not this, then what.

Expand full comment

Absolutely. That's why I'd like to take these type of men and pop them into a room with a lion and tell them there is no threat as the lion identifies as a human. Better still - they need to use the loo and there may be a lion in the loos with them or maybe not. They won't know until they get in there. Then ask them, do you want to go in there?

Expand full comment

Yes, I wonder if they'd see the lion as being the same them, and there to do the same thing as them. Have a pee, wash his hands, (unlikely perhaps, but you never know) and leave. But then the man realises the lion isn't there for the same reason he is, it's snarling, he might be in a bit of danger and goes straight back out, or tries to. Because, Ping! It's occurred to him that all along the lion never really believed he was human, he just wanted something to eat.

The misogyny is not a bug, it's a feature.

Expand full comment

Yes there's a subset of males, not necessarily a small subset, who think woman should not be in sports (and lots of other things).

Expand full comment

Yes, there are those men.

And it's also in the smirk of the men who win these events. They don't want to compete in an open category. They want to win in a women's category. They want to beat women. They enjoy their frustration and their humiliation.

Tempted to say the best option is to sit back and watch. In a decade or so they can write the club history explaining how Thundercrit developed the unusual format of two all male categories...

Cis-women don't exist. They're a fantasy in workeists imaginations. Anyone who doesn't agree with the term should never give in and use it. I'm not criticising you Mari you were quoting. I really believe we should resist their made up words. I'm a woman, simple as that.

I said on Twitter last week as a reply to someone who posted an Owen Jones Tweet screen shot that contained the 'word' 'CIS' in the first line.

'I didn't read past 'CIS'... and I never will.'

That sums up my position when the words is used by people like him. (And not Mari, above as you rightly say)

I agree with you 100%. From the very first time I saw this term that presumably refers to me and like me, it set my teeth on edge and reminded me of "cyst" (nose wrinkle). I'm sure I'm not alone in that.

I'm no one's "cis" and I don't identify as as woman, I AM a woman.

Sadly, Jo is complicit in the deceit and seems intent on collaborating with the oppressors. She's "delighted" to be consigned to 3rd place and "proud" to be racing with the larping cheats.

So now I am told that she even helped organise the event itself.

I wonder if that involved helping compiling the pathetic, meaningless entry criteria?

This is a form of self-flagellation, if so. Incredible.

Completley agree. If she felt she couldn't speak out then at least she could have kept quiet. But as Moley says, if she helped organise the event then she has a stake in it and is protecting her stake while throwing other women under the bus.

Ugh. Traitor. Putting her desire to compete ahead of issues affecting her fellow women competitors. Then she can enter the men's competition and leave the woman's catergory for women only.

Those 'brave' very likely bogus transwomen (the most marginalised and discriminated group in the world EVER) going out there and stealing places from women because they couldn't do it from men.
