Well, that was powerful. And most welcome.

I, and perhaps many others even more cynical and curmudgeonly than myself, am almost tempted to say, 'What took you'?, but in fact, I never would be so arrogant and perhaps disdainful of others that have clearly struggled to come to a reasonable conclusion about 'all of this'. So I shall simply just appreciate the power of the speech, and the honesty and the 'coming out', if you will pardon the use of that phrase.

I did wonder why my Twitter notifications had gone through the roof today! - and it is because of this. I helped Brandubh by making the Suffragette graphic featuring Emmeline Pankhurst and the words of her poem, for which she, and her gracious and kind mother, were both so grateful and appreciative.

Her Tweet featuring this and thanking Kelly - the time she was on the show via a phone link - has me tagged, so I see all of the grateful, yet perhaps shell-shocked, women worldwide - and especially in the US - expressing their thanks and appreciation for this young woman. And it is a pleasure to see to be honest.. and a relief.

I think she's late because she hadn't fully realised. And now she has she's livid. She's not the same as those like.....I dunno, Jeremy Vine types? Oh it's all so complicated, etc.. I was late peaking (Nov 20) as I had no idea, and when I found out just how much the piss was being ripped by pervs/harm was being done to children/money was being made/ the total fucking capture of our public institutions, I too was/am fucking raging. I just wanna fight the bastards. No fucking way am I "showing courtesy" to some perv who's wanked himself into the psychotic delusion he is the same as a woman. FUCK THAT!

I think it’s more powerful because she has gone down the rabbit hole, for all the right reasons, and saw the darkness there and can admit her mistake.

I think your experience is quite common. How can people trying to keep their heads above water, pay the rent, pay the utilities, feed their children, go to work every day, possibly keep up with this stuff? I probably only knew about it quite a while ago because I am disabled (otherwise I'd never be on the computer) and found gendertrender. I'm just so glad when people find out the truth!

My equally raging thoughts precisely! What you said about cowardly excuses such as it's so complicated is a typical cop out by those who don't want to confront this horror. Complicated? No it's not. It's simple; they're men, not women, and they're taking the piss. There. Broke it down for them.

I think Megyn's story is more powerful simply because she did not immediately or automatically object to the TRAs. She is a conservative, but she still tried to show respect and consideration. But this 'being kind' attitude helped the TRAs to dominate the media, and shut down true debate by the public. I am glad that she is able to make this carefully considered video- which will ring true with many of the public. I hope it peaks (piques?) millions of people!

I find it baffling that the concept of "respect" should be given to people who lie about themselves in the most obvious of ways and *expect* (demand, often with menaces) that everyone else must lie too.

I never have gone with the "respect" of lying to a male who says he is a woman.

Exactly. If a guy says he is Napoloen Bonaparte, or Jesus, or a woman says she wants to marry a bridge (-all these have actually happened-) you don't say 'OK', you call for psychiatric professionals to help...

Let’s hope so. It had me in tears, especially when she read the wonderful poem by Brandubh.

She’s been on the same journey that many people have been on, before they realised the horror of what was happening. I hope many more watch it and realise that it is not kind to indulge gender ideology. All that does, is perpetuate the evil. We need every voice now, before more children are irreversibly damaged, women lose all rights and sports and gay people are pushed back into the closet….or worse.

Combined with the success of Matt Walsh’s What is a Woman and Musk allowing it to be broadcast, it’s been a very good couple of days… and not forgetting Kathleen Stock’s excellent work during the week.

In common with many others, I took a fairly neutral view of 'trans' rights, basing my knowledge on those old-style transsexuals who had 'transitioned' fully through surgery. Even then, they made me uneasy, but not hostile. Again, like many others, I decided to research this stuff and read, and listened to, reams of information, studies and so on, and I was 'peaked'. Then, I listened to Jennifer Bilek's 'follow the money', and I realized that she was right because I, too, had entertained the notion that a world-wide legal firm, as Denton's is, would have needed serious money to deliver their 'Denton's Document'. That led to my asking myself why big money would back this stuff, that, superficially, appeared to be little more than a bunch of porn-sick men indulging their cross-dressing fetish to the nth degree. The answers had to lie in the medical world, the pharmaceutical, etc., and the billionaires who were invested in this stuff.

It was also very noticeable that the people in the UK pushing this stuff appeared to be mainly the comfortable middle-class who would probably never have to encounter the downside of this movement. Then, at the bottom, there were men (mainly men at this stage) who seemed to be quite unhinged by sexual fetishes that defied rational explanation. The more I looked into it, the more terrifying it became, and I could define three distinct levels: the top echelon - the corporatist billionaires; the middle echelon - the middle-class enablers, including politicians, teachers, university staff, the civil service, the NHS management, etc.; and the lowest level - the ground floor and basement sexual fetishists, many claiming gender dysphoria which is a close relation of body dysmorphia, on a par with anorexia or limb removal, and, therefore, a mental illness. Most were sexual fetishists and autogynephiles, and it became dangerous to say so.

Gradually, it became apparent that these men needed females and children to validate their fetishes with the usual tropes of "I aways knew I was in the wrong body" and "I really am a woman" to "you don't have to change yourself to be your authentic self". The female counterparts, fleeing femaleness in the main - and who can blame them considering the misogyny that exists in every part of the world, in every era, down solely to our biology - were trying to escape puberty, the male gaze that 'owns' you, when you know instinctively that you are often not viewed as an autonomous human being, but as an inferior male appendage that is useful for sex and for child-bearing . It is not difficult to see where the notion of 'transwoman' comes from.

Women and children became targets, then, to be overcome and subsumed into the movement. Young women were seduced by the appeal of escaping womanhood and its very visceral expectations, while children were subjected to a barrage of 'drag queen' events and inappropriate material in schools. It is probably more complicated than this, but these, to me, seem to be the main reasons for female participation in this nightmare The scene was set for the collision that has come between women's, girls' and children's rights, on the one hand, and 'trans' rights, particularly 'transwomen's' on the other. Essentially, it is an existential fight for the first category, and one that we cannot afford to lose. I really do not believe that the 'trans' lot believed for one second that we would fight back as we have, and the rage that this engenders - no pun intended - in these narcissistic, entitled men is on a par with the rage expressed by domestic abusers and violent sex offenders. Very male. Females are not allowed to say, no, not allowed to express any autonomy whatsoever: real "rib of my rib" stuff.

I am so glad that Megyn has turned the corner at last, and the poem by that wee lass just says it all, doesn't it? Clever girl. People who continue to believe in this nonsense really are going to have to pick a side very soon because it is all going to reach a head. It cannot be solved by holding out the hand of friendship or compromise because we are quite literally in these men's way, and they want us out of all public spaces - all of them. It is very much more than mere validation; it is a deep-rooted, visceral and entitled misogyny that has never been experienced before, and it should be documented for future generations. Similar movements have risen in the past, as ancient civilizations disintegrated and collapsed (Camilla Paglia explains this very well) but never to this extent, and the pendulum swung back, probably too far, then centred itself again.

The internet has allowed men (and women and girls to an extent, but a far lesser one) to totally immerse themselves in sexual desire of types that are deviant and dangerous, and many have allowed themselves to become addicted on the same lines as drug addiction or alcoholism, to the point where they are driven by this stuff, requiring a more base and violent type of porn each time they surface to achieve the same hit. The police always find gross pornography when they examine sex offenders' homes and computers, and it is always there in 'transwomen's' computers and homes, too, when they transgress. It parallels and fuels rapes, sexual assaults, paedophilia, even domestic abuse, some of which is now recognized as 'transwomen' and cross-dressers forcing their wives and partners to submit to the humiliating fantasies of their husbands and partners, albeit the majority of domestic abuse is perpetrated by heterosexual men with a control obsession. The vast majority of men are decent people, but enough of them, the minority, make the lives of females a hell on earth, and it has to stop.

Yes, the male abuser pattern is very evident in transactivists who set the tone for this very aggressive movement. I've been reading "Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men" by Lundy Bancroft, as a counsellor for over 20 years of men convicted or referred (as an alternative to prison) for violent partner abuse. Bancroft makes a point of ALWAYS seeking out the woman's story too. And he repeatedly makes the point that it's not the anger of these men but their values and attitudes that drive the abuse: of women they despise as inferior from an entitled position of coercive control. And it all fits so well with patterns of cult indoctrination and mind control: see Robert Jay Lifton and others, including cult deprogrammer Steven Hassan.

I read that years ago when I was escaping the clutches of just such a man. Once I understood they way he was thinking it made so much sense. The police were great with me fortunately

Glad to hear you got away. And that the police were actually helpful. I probably survived only because my abuser was imprisoned for a drugs offence (this was many years ago), as he'd already tried to strangle me & had broken my eardrum with blow to my head. But still look a long time to understand I owed him nothing, despite continued demands after his release. But by then I was living in a community household (against his wishes) and they threw him out. Only now at last able to understand what it was all about.

God almighty, how many of us? This is why I find this latest version of this 'activism' so hard to stomach. It sits on that bedrock of the angry and controlling men Lundy described so well. I've just seen Channel 4 'Gender Wars' and a few of the talking heads say such very typically coercive and male, misogynist things with such baffled poor me, pity me, I'm the victim delivery. The amount of them who are professors and 'just can't understand' why this is happening to the poor wee things who can't see why they can't 'identify' into our spaces/places/bodies/rights. Then they all say, oh but that's them, not us, that's those bad men, we're women. They seem clueless about what Lundy writes about. They can't hear 'no' and seem angry and paranoid when we say it and defend that position. Then claim our victimhood too, for things they feel anxious might possibly happen to them in our spaces and lives - because it's always, as ever, all about them.

I think it's time I read this book - thanks for the recommendation. As George Simon says in his book "In Sheep's Clothing," the only reason that some people are aggressive is because it gets them what they want.

Expand full comment

It's a very enlightening book. And Bancroft too emphasises that coercive control is highly effective in getting these men what they want: including by playing the victim. (DARVO: Deny, Accuse, Reverse Victim and Offender). They are raging narcissists.

But Bancroft also emphasises that abuse can happen in any relationship including gay and lesbian relationships, though it's very much less often by women than by men in heterosexual relationships.

Thanks for mentioning "In Sheep's Clothing" -- I think I've heard of it, but not read it (yet!).

I wish more people were aware of the nature and intentionality of this kind of abuse. Narcissists can exercise self-control when it suits them, such as when there'll be negative consequences for themselves. I've written a piece about the overlap between TRA and narcissistic behaviours, but so far had no luck with getting it published - might have to start a substack :)

Thanks -- have now read "In Sheep's Clothing" and George Simon makes crystal clear the mistake most of us make in falling for the "Be Kind" emotional manipulation and gaslighting -- and exactly why we make it. It's much more than the commonly accepted fact, exploited in bad faith by transactivists who ignore female boundaries, that women are generally socialised to put the needs of others before our own: as an extension of childrearing. It's tremendously useful to us, particularly to women, that Simon points out that we are wrongly led to assume that all aggressive behaviour is necessarily also defensive, as some kind of compensation for weakness or injury.

And that this wrong assumption is a hangover from Freudian psychology derived in a very different social setting: of high inhibitions on all kinds of transgressive behaviour. But where Victorians would say "Don't even think about it!" (and disguise the eroticism of bulbous piano legs with frills) the Nike generation is told to "Just do it!" And male athletes are "just doing it" in women's sports: lacking any kind of internal or external moral prohibition based on notions of "fairness".

The so-called "narcissistic generation" is cohorts of adult children who have never been told "NO" or required to think about about the needs or rights of anyone but themselves.

But we still much too readily credit aggressors with wounds they don't have and compensatory behaviours that are, in fact, plain old aggression: fighting to get what they want, and often fighting dirty, in underhand ways.

So where Freud could discount the familial sex abuse stories of his Viennese women patients as "erotic fantasies", giving their male relatives free rein for more abuse, females now cannot even lay claim to being "women" at all: because trans-identified males find identity theft suits their purposes so well -- getting power and control, discounting women's sex-based needs and rights as usual -- that they issue death threats to anyone who disagrees.

I think, too, that fascist and totalitarian regimes follow this pattern of aggressive, sometimes passive-aggressive, control and abuse, and that is why this movements makes me so wary. It has all the hallmarks of a totalitarian/fascist mindset. They do appear to target females far more than they do males, although I know that some males, like Graham, have been roundly abused and cancelled, because, I think they do see us as inferior, sub-human almost, specimens, and that we have no right to gainsay them. Males once, in law, owned both their wives and their children, as chattel. In 'The Mayor of Casterbridge', by Thomas Hardy, a wife is sold to the highest bidder. With other males, I think it might be that they see them as 'traitors' to male hegemony if they speak up in favour of females.

Expand full comment

I think you're right: the totalitarian/fascist parallels keep occurring to me too. Here is a useful summary of some of them I came across on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/witchymacwoman/status/1663287633089380353

And George Orwell's warning (in "Nineteen Eighty Four") about language is salutary too:

"Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will no words in which to express it."

So the wrongthink terms "male" and female" are already banned, where they can't be co-opted into some form of pseudoscience which now proposes that sex is "bimodal" rather than binary -- as a "bimodal distribution" sounds more sciencey (to the innocent/ignorant, at which it's aimed) than a gender "spectrum". The last time a trans-identified male on Twittet told me this I rewarded him with a graph showing bimodal distribution of the attribute Height, across the binary categories male and female -- ie a couple of overlapping bell curves. He had nothing further to say: but maybe he couldn't read graphs. But I should have said too that the overlap of tall women with short men did not change the sex of either.

However it's slightly bizarre that the actual fascist/totalitarian resurgence in far right politics globally has leapt on "traditional" -- ie biological -- definitions of sex as binary, as a potent weapon to deride Left faux-"Progressive" narcissism, as a totalitarian tendency which, itself, seems to be the product of an overly permissive society that encourages all the worst aspects of anarchy: rampant tribalism based on the loudest voices & most extreme views of guess who, men. Like patriarchy is hydra-headed: cut off one head and three more will spring up bent on vengeance.

PS sorry this a jumble of thoughts: not sorted out the strands yet. But it's definitely the extreme aggressive/transgressive male abuser type that dominates totalitarian movements.
