‘Your self image as a progressive..makes your thought process easy to hack’.

Brilliant way of putting it. This is the biggest hurdle to overcome because of human ego. Most don’t want to admit they are wrong, at least not on the big issues.

Yes. A friend who is in the process of trying to work out why she is so angry about what has happened to JK Rowling and Kathleen Stock nonetheless told me the other day that 'woman' is a social construct. She's reading a book about social constructivism at the moment; she balked when I referred to Laurel Hubbard as 'he', even though she knows it's unfair for him to compete against women...

lol! The path to getting away from the cult-like thinking is paved with finding ways to resolve a million contradictions, eg: how do I defend JKR and not be seen as suspect by my milieu? They may think I’m a TERF! Gulp. A LOT of wokie throat-clearing as the prelude. But that’s how sanity returns, I reckon, bit by bit.

As each pillar of the ideology is hacked away, there will be very little left and then the collective amnesia will set in….as happens after any societal madness.

Keep the receipts.

How true. Breaking this ideology down reveals how insubstantial and incoherent it is. Most ideas change and develop over time, but gender ideology doesn't make any progress, it just gets increasingly chaotic, accommodating more niche peculiarities and new goals.

In another context this mess wouldn't survive, people would dismiss it as drivel. But over time, conditions have been created where it isn't only not dismissed, it's able to thrive, however improbable that might seem. Nevertheless, once it does begin to fall apart in earnest it won't get the opportunity to recover. By then, no one will be able to ignore how much damage has been done to people.

I love this: “Most ideas change and develop over time, but gender ideology doesn't make any progress, it just gets increasingly chaotic, accommodating more niche peculiarities and new goals.”

I struggle so much with the doubling down on TWAW, even though the problematic and harmful aspects of this have been revealed, the impacts on women in prisons, refuges, sport, daily life documented and shared, the worst extremes screengrabbed and circulated, the obvious shocking and unforgivable grooming of children, the stats and stories of mutilated, sterilised detransitioners revealed, the underhand, manipulative, dishonest tactics of trans organisations exposed, the peeling back of #nodebate to reveal a nonsense, contradictory, regressive, misogynistic, homophobic ideology, the hatred, violence and spite that runs through it.

The ‘it will never happens’ keep happening. We have the receipts. We are sharing them. How many more people need to have their lives ruined before people start to row back and recant? It’s beyond woeful ignorance at this point, it’s deliberate and self-serving.

When you become involved in this and are aware of what's going on, it's easy to forget that a lot of people's awareness isn't that great. Many believe that what they do know doesn't affect them, and are likely to come out with clichés like 'live and let live', etc. They don't know how much harm is being caused or how deep it goes. For that to happen they're going to have to encounter a GI inspired intrusion in their lives, perhaps. Including those who focus on being 'kind' with no real understanding of what they're being kind to. It isn't just to vulnerable men and women who are trying to find the best way to live their lives with some contentment. They're also being kind to narcissistic homophobic, misogynistic bullies who won't return any that consideration, or even basic decency, if it suits them not to.

Yes. I had to stop myself, in this conversation (the first I have had with my friend) from emailing her later with lots of studies and links. It would be all too much in one go. I must be careful to not seem 'aggressive'. Will she pick up on my comment about the detransitioners? I don't know

That is so true, I said about the dangers of putting men in with women and he had no idea women are getting assaulted and hurt. In the us there are even women that are now pregnant. He had no idea. It's not in main stream news really.

That's a big problem

Excellent. Loved the Chinese loyalty test - great analogy. (Sad, though. The opposite of the Emperor's New Clothes!)

Brilliant analysis !! Every single person promoting or complying with this " ideology " will have blood on their hands !! Man's inhumanity to WOMAN ( to paraphrase Rabbie Burns ,who definitely knew what a WOMAN was !!)

Expand full comment

That’s one of the things that bugs me Susan. The men in my life have never had any issues knowing who is what. These public figures who deny what a woman is don’t seem to realise what that says about themselves. How do they talk to each other about this nonsense. What kind of sex lives have they got if they don’t know a woman from a dressing up box?

So true. I wonder how they think they got here . Maybe they were dropped off by a passing space ship or something !👎👎👎

I was reading something unrelated to the gender debate but simlar to this that can be related to it. The difference between scouts and soldiers.

A soldier frames their perspective in ways that allow them to fit in, focusing on stories that justify the war and the killing. It's defensive thinking, they must never cede territory, must defend what they believe to be true against any threat, even to their personal disadvantage.

A scout is an explorer. They scout terrain to be able to see the world as it is.

As much as TRA's like to see themselves as free-thinkers, uninhibited and breaking beyond the staid norms, they're pure soldiers. They cannot allow the pathways of their thoughts to stretch any further than a slogan or what allows them to fit in with their peers. When confronted with any argument against what they're doing, what choice do they have? They can only disregard it, reframe and move past it as a good soldier.

Every GC you come across is a scout though. They've done the thinking and the research. They've not been convinced by the arguments and they're always coming up with new pathways of thought that look at the issue from another angle that checks their position remains solid. TTExulansic might be the finest example of this.

I really don't think I was a scout before now. One really useful thing about all this is it made me better at thinking.

That's such a good way of thinking about it. Do you mind if I use the metaphor in a poem?

The scout mindset? I part heard her interviewed and somehow missed there had been a book (!). Thank you. There's something in the water as there's a lot of great stuff on ways to approach issues/conflicts/wicked problems, leadership and ways to think at the moment like BBC radio 4 Think with Pinker.

A very important and perceptive explanation of how sycophancy, ignorance, indoctrination, opportunism and other weaknesses are responsible for going along with such patently false statements as 'Trans women are women.'

Expand full comment

You are right but this outrageous marketing campaign has been so successful. The problem is the research says something completely different and individuals need to check it out - employers joined the virtue signalling band wagon too and misled everyone - they were too lazy to check it out, wanted to save money and I think they also enjoy old fashioned back slapping and mens rights. Anyone not checking the research at this stage is quite frankly an idiot!

The biggest con ever

Oh, I don't know if it's the biggest con ever. Patriarchy and capitalism are pretty big cons and they're literally ending the world that gave us life.

Agree with everything in this post except the word "secret" in "secret handshake." The lunatics and opportunists shout "trans women ARE women" from the rooftops at every possible moment.

Everyone should read Helen Joyce's book, "Trans". I gave just finished it and handed it to to a "TWAW" believer who is on the cusp of turning. I expect she will come back to me with a different opinion and a suggestion on where the book should go next. We won,'t change the world but we will have women who change opinion come forward to stand with us on the "transwomen are biologically male" front.

So good! I listened to House Of Lords debate on trans women in women's prisons and found it difficult to keep up (and I have a good grasp of the issues). We need this story. It encapsulates the whole problem succinctly. I'm now going to write 20 second version for people who want to understand but won't bother to hear the long version.
