Excellent. Suddenly people aren't scared to speak out about the illiberal, exclusive, discriminatory and unacceptable nature of what has been happening.

Once enough people stop being scared of the Traniban witch-hunt, its days are numbered.

Good stuff. Will Labour and the Greens grassroots do something similar?

Hope so. I keep writing to my Labour MP but he will not answer me on any of these topics. He's always been very responsive before on other issues, so I think it's fear at work again

Ann Widdecombe called the Parliamentary Conservative Party as a whole "very second rate", but that really does apply across the board. I think there's a lack of character building pursuits. WWII was very character building. I hope it doesn't come to that, but calamity is where a lack of character leads. There's no guarantee a WWIII would be won, like WWII had no guarantees. Fortunately, Britain had plenty of character to draw on in WWII.

What happened to Rosie Duffield might have put other sympathetic members off.

Can totally see that.

..which is appalling

One of my councillors is on there - I’ve written to thank him for standing up. His local party have just ignored the issue when I’ve tried to engage them in the past. Thanks for publicising this Graham!

Well done them. The LibDem leadership are are a disgrace, from their acceptance of funding from a company that makes puberty blockers, to their limp-wristed acceptance of men who think they’re women.

Good for them. The more people point out the imbalance of the situation, the better.

Oh the sickening irony! Who is so scared of the trans activists and of informed debate as to totally sacrifice Liberal values in this ignorant, cowardly and undemocratic fashion? Let them stand up and be known. Let them be publicly admonished.

I really hope this has an effect and will look forward to updates. It's sickening how the Trans Rights Activists seem to be able to overthrow any organisation not committed to their dubious cause.

"An in-person Conference offers people the chance to debate and test their ideas face to face with other human beings" -- and here lies the rub. No one has ever bothered to poll "we don't even know what a woman is, LOL" to see how it will work out as elections. That's why they are so shocked to meet terfs on the doorstep -- it never occurs to them to check their new orthodoxy with the voting public, first.

Well done to all who signed this. I've thought for a long time that the Lib Dems were completely lost to wokeness , especially when "Aimee Chalonner " was given a position in the party !!x

Wow. Liberal Democrats who are liberal and democrats shock! horror! I wonder if these outbreaks of normalcy will catch on?

Ferring Pharmaceuticals have a board that is strongly committed to the European Union both because they support it as peace project and also because it is in the interests of the company. GnRHa drugs are not a major product line and in any case that the donations dried up in 2019 is a pretty strong pointer to Brexit being the real reason.

The reason why the Liberal Democrats put gender identity dogmas over women’s rights can be entirely explained by a very militant TRA faction which the politicians are terrified of while most ordinary members are focused on local issues and don’t care. That will remain true until those opposing the ideology become strong enough for the politicians to grow a spine. That letter is a step towards that.

Finally, non-tory politicians speaking up

Glad to see a friend of mine, LD councillor locally, has signed it.

I reckon the figure obtained over the years from Ferring pharmaceutical was nearer £250k. Can't remember the source. Can anyone help?

Expand full comment

I've just been on the Electoral Commission's website and done a search for donations by Ferring since Sept 2014.

A quick approximated add up puts it at over £895,000 between Dec 2014 and Mar 2019.

Breathtaking! Well done for digging that figure out.

If the money was the explanation for the party's current position, why didn't they go gender critical after 2019 when the money dried up?

Expand full comment

I'm not convinced it is. There are proper zealots embedded in the Lib Dem mechanism. I reckon this is - ahem- a red Ferring

Expand full comment

I don't think they supported gender ideology because of the money.

I do think Ferring did what all those with an agenda do, which is to put their money where it will work for them.

The Lib Dems have a lot of true believers. The funding and associated lobbying will have encouraged them and possibly given them more clout in the party.

Also, I don't know that it has dried up. I haven't got anything that shows that and I don't know what time lag there may be on it showing up in the Commission database.

Expand full comment

Lib Dems (and Labour for that matter) are just too ideologically captured to perform a full 'volt face'. To go full gender critical now is tantamount to admitting they got it wrong for all these years and the 'W' word in not in any Politicians lexicon.

For now, the best change we can hope for is a neutral/follow the science approach. At the minute though, they're all too far down the rabbit hole.

Ps. We're screwed here in Scotland. Despite losing a previous court battle, SNP/Scotgov are still trying to change the definition of 'woman'. Announced last week that Transwomen with a GRC are legally women for ALL purposes, effectively bypassing the single sex exemptions under the Equality Act.

But nothing since Jo Swinson lost her seat...?

Don't read anything into the most recent date. There may have been donations since then which simply haven't been through the declarations process yet. I don't know how / when the EC database updates.

I bet you any money they met at Davos! A lot of threads would lead back there. All this money sloshing about from big tech and big Pharma and some billionaires, buying everybody off and seeking to control everybody and everything.
