Dear Graham,
Well, that blew up a bit! Thank you to Sall Groves for bringing it to a wider audience, apparently, I am completely fictional, according to one of Katy’s friends!
But I’m not sorry - feels like the least I can do given how much flak you and others get on a daily basis.
Having calmed down a bit, I think my wider point got a bit lost, namely that chemo drugs, hospital beds, mammogram machines, infusion chairs, CT scanners, oncologists and friendly nurses - these are all finite resources, with costs attached.
When a trans-identified male takes hormones that increase their risk of needing these resources, they are - unnecessarily in my view - adding to the pressure on the health service, and potentially lessening the availability of those resources for people who can nothing to change their likelihood of needing them, ie women. In a private healthcare system, their premiums would be going up for intentionally increasing their own risk.
An analogy might be someone chainsmoking in order to validate themselves, full in the knowledge that they are increasing their own risk, but seeing that increased risk as part of the validation.
I would like to add that I do not wish ill health or misfortune on anyone, of course.
I’m not asking you to go public with the above, I’d rather it all just die down I think. But if it does drag on, that’s the point I was trying to make.
Cheers,
William
As a side note, this thread from @hatpinwoman is a must-read. I’m not saying the contents apply to Katy Montgomerie, but I do think it’s important to recognise how offensive AGP fetishism is to anyone who values the women in their lives.
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss William, and your analogy is a good one about demanding access to finite resources that they could avoid needing whilst women can't.Thanks for speaking up, take care.x
All the Young Dudes was a fine song by Mott the Hoople. I've no idea why I think about that classic 1970s track when I hear Katy and her friends referenced. Do you? 😏
