This is really bad. These idiots do not seem to realise how petty and ridiculous it makes them look. How can anyone respect such institutions now.

That comic is infuriating. The TRAs are the ones that believe that men can be changed into women by thought alone. It's nothing but a taunting power flex: we say X is Y, and we have the power to make it so, so shut it, ladies. Shocking that they are geting away with it in the 21st century.

Any of our ancestors, would have immediately sat on *any* man who declared himself a woman and demanding access to spaces for women.

It would be a painful squashing too.

Utterly disgusting. Shame on them. Thank you for pointing out this clear parallel with history, Graham.

And reassuring to know the Suffragettes won, in spite of the hate and anti woman propaganda thrown at them.

Wrote to them:

'I was deeply angered by the cartoon satirizing the princple of "balanced debate" that accompanied Maya Forstater's reply (vol. 50.3) to an earlier article by Phoenix Andrews accusing Forstater of hate speech.

'The publishing of this cartoon suggests that, in the collective opinion of the IOC, Forstater is evil and destructive, akin to Old Nick himself, while Andrews is pure, good and wholesome. This interpretation is far more reasonable than the reverse, precisely because the cartoon accompanies a piece Forstater wrote when given the "right to reply" to Andrews.

'Calling this a "right" is itself a misnomer, since Forstater had to write for free, which means she did not exercise a right, but paid for a privilege. The IOC's use of this cartoon to comment on Forstater's views shows that it, too, is failing to live up to its name. By characterizing her side of this debate as Satanic, you have effectively abandoned your mission to protect freedom of speech for all. Shame on you.'

I like it when phony organisations are exposed. It helps me unsubscribe and lower the number of emails I receive, Index on Censorship being one I've followed for a few years and have donated to.

"Index on Censorship believes that free expression encourages more open and tolerant societies"... along as you agree with their definitions of free speech.

The comic doesn't make sense...and is pathetic.

A weird compassion of what to what? Biology is not flat earth!

and btw

Who Said It Was an Apple?

"Thus, not from God’s Word, the Bible, but from the fanciful, yet misguided, imagination of artists and poets has come one of the most popular myths of Christendom. What was the fruit? The Bible simply does not say, for the vital point is not the fruit but man’s disobedience.—Romans 5:12"

That comic gets up my nose for several reasons:

1. Publishing it against someone's right to reply is juts putting the boot in .

2. It's abhorrent in how it compares GC people and women to those who think the earth is flat. Nothing could be further that the truth. Biological sex is real while the earth is not flat.

3. I think I must be missing something... The right to reply is the right to defend oneself, not providing a so-called "balanced argument" (because an astronaut v a flat earther are just two views and not a balanced arguments as one is right and one is wrong). So this Ben Jenner doesn't even understand what the right to reply is! So they don't know what free speech is and they don't know what right to reply is or a balanced argument. Deeply disturbing.

The left have fallen. Run away from it. Fast. The modern identity politic left is all about power and control. You’ve spent a whole few days watching them tear themselves up about ‘free’ Palestine and the ‘female’ penis. They are reality deniers. Writ large. Palestine will be free when it kicks out the thugs that run the place and accepts the reality of lost wars. And when men with cocks realise they are not women. And the ones who have chopped off their cocks are eunuchs. End of. Live your life. I am not here to validate you.

This is all getting very serious and civilisational. As the internal lies and therefore the inherent contradictions of ‘progressivism’ come to light. With transvestism a touch light into the absurdities of left wing thought. It highlights the denial of reality and the leap into totalitarian thought that belies all. Deny that all you want.

It’s all about conformity. If you disagree with multiculturalism, you are a fascist. Climate change your a denier. BLM your a racists. Where is the plurality of debate?

Multi-cultism leads to the denial of reality that cultures are different. People that profess to multicultural pieties know little of other cultures. And so we get a culture of deceit. That leads to the denial of media/politicians/police/social services of the obvious consequences of a culture that sees women as chattel, Islam, and the subsequent rape/murder/enslavement of young girls. A situation that still to this day isn’t really being addressed. Because ‘celebrate’ diversity.

Climate Change. The big delusion that man can make the seas rise and the seas fall. A big trillion dollar shake down. That will and is going to shake the western world to its cockles. As we deny the energy density of fossil fuels vis a vis batteries. One of the biggest betrayals of middle class ‘socialists’ could ever impose on the working classes. Wanting subsidies for fucking electric cars and solar panels so they could signal their virtue. How noble. While the poor pick up the bill.

And BLM. I hope all those who cheered on Biden are happy. Given they supported the party of historical slavery and Jim Crow. And those failed policies of patronising affirmative action post 1965. The party that was happy to gin up a race war back in 2020. That’s lead to an explosion in homicides in the US. What great company you keep. If we are looking at black life’s from a US perspective remember that over half of black babies are aborted. And that there is a black on black homicide rate off the scales compared to white on white and or Hispanic. Not to mention that just over half of US homicides are committed by black men. I’m sure that it would be better if we looked at things from a more socio economic mix. But as the left likes to play identity politics. There you go.

I don’t want black people in the US to be stigmatised for the outsized criminality of their racial groups behaviour. But ignoring it won’t make it go away. Let’s talk why? Let’s have open discussion. Let’s have freedom of speech.

And that goes for all the other issues that the modern left seem to think there is only one answer only one view. You need dissenting views to climate change, multiculturalism, transgenderism, Islam, feminism, socialism, capitalism et all. Because that is how we ultimately find answers to things. The free open exchange of ideas.

The modern left are lost. The transgenderism issue highlights that to extremis. When you are debating what is a women. What is a cervix. You’ve descended into the malignant and self celebrating end of ID politics. People like Owen Jones need to be expunged to the wastes of society for being the insincere wankers that they are. They will believe in anything for power. They are dangerous and malignant. He’s been a traitor to western values when it’s come to many things. But when it comes to the reality of biology. What wouldn’t he therefore sell out. He genuinely scares me as a product of the left who has so many followers. And he is so reflected by so many in the modern / left of the Labour Party. Our official opposition here in the U.K.

I’m of the right. But I do believe their should be a left. But not the left that we have currently. It’s become morally repugnant, intolerant, hateful and corrupted by post modernism and the ultimate evil of identity politics. Which in my mind is the descent back into feudalism. It’s become corrupt. Someone please save it.

I'm sure the Palestinians would love to kick out the thugs that run the place, unfortunately the USA spends billions of dollars each year arming them to the teeth.

Multiculturalism is only a problem in the blinkered eyes of those who like to believe only "other" cultures abuse women etc.

I think your post holds a mirror to the fact that "the left" aren't the only ones who like to play identity politics...

Jesus Christ. The moral sewer of cultural relativism has arrived. Hamas runs the Palestine territories does it not? And gets cash from America. Israel runs Israel. A Democratic state run on liberal principles. That houses not just Jewish people but also Arabs. As full citizens as far as I am aware. Where has the Marxist oppressor / oppressed rhetoric got the Palestinians in the last 60 bloody years? Wars were fought in 48/67/73 and Israel won. And it gets the spoils. That’s how wars work. You may not like that. But not accepting that gets you no where.

Only other cultures abuse women? All cultures my friend abuse women. But some do it a lot worse than others. Namely Islam. Stop being an ignorant fool and face reality. Are you now going to defend the burkha? And go tell that to those young women up in Rochdale and Rotherham. Who were ignored because people like you are so inebriated in your cultural relativism. So quick to shout ‘racist’ that they are being gang banged while the police, social services, politicians and the media looked away for all those years. And I still think do.

Identity politics is a curse. If you want to live in a diverse world. That so many on the left seem to want to do. And I assume you are of the left. Accept that it won’t be nice peaceful world.

It will be a argumentative world. Learn to be insensitive. Stand up for freedom of speech if anything.

You’ll need to fight for your freedom to say and believe what you believe at some point do it now while you can. If anything the whole TG debate should teach you that. As I’ve said beforehand in previous posts it highlights the lefts descent into intolerance in extremis. It’s an obvious lie. An evil lie.

I’m in the U.S.A. and I don’t see much “right” or “left” here, mainly just corporatists with mental pathology such as narcissism and psychopathy. The level of lying civilized people tolerate has always confounded me. After I voted for Bill Clinton in my first presidential election in 1992, then watched his first 100 days in office, I determined that he was a pathological liar and haven’t watched much “news” or commercial television since, perhaps because wasn’t raised on it. This pathology is not exclusive to either “side.” Those are just team colors we’re expected to pick from and irrationally berate the opposite “team.” We need more class consciousness here, as so many adopt the Disney version of “good” and “bad” sides. I haven’t voted for any presidential candidate of either dominant party since 1992. I wish we had proportional representation like there is with a parliament, although I can see that isn’t perfect, either. The deeper problem, I fear, is the rampant mental pathology amongst those who administer our societies, in public and private institutions alike. I refuse to direct my emotional energy towards hating on anything other than these destructive, manipulative personalities, and think the best thing to do besides raising public awareness of them is to resist and expose them wherever they are. Pardon my lack of eloquence, but those of us who give a damn can’t let irrational arguments distract us!

I would say that the heart of the problem in the US. Regardless of left or right. Is the ossified party system. In so much that we in the U.K. are kinda stuck with our left and right. Either the Labour or Conservative parties. We do though have the ability of outliers that are able to appear and effect change. A good example would be UKIP in the. U.K. which you may or may not agree with. But did by organisation and using the standard methods of Democratic voting effect change. It led to Brexit. There seems to be a unique strangle hold in the US of these two old ossified entities that you just can’t break out from. Even if as In the U.K. it all just goes back to Conservative or Labour. At least the outliers get a chance in the U.K. And do effect change. From a Democratic perspective. And I do hope the more gritty and materialistic approach that we in the U.K. are showing to our cousins in the US in regards to this whole transgender madness and what it means for women and children is giving you hope. You need to put your claws in. Tell people to stop taking the piss (ie lie to you) and fuck off with their blatant denial of reality. When your housing men with women in your prisons you have lost the plot. When you are telling children they are born in the wrong body you are abusing them. Remember the whole thing is a lie. A pretence that needs adherence. It’s weak at its roots. Give it a good firm kick. You really now have nothing to loose. Be vicious (verbally) and tell these pervs, losers, abusers to clear off. Stop being nice. They need to get out of women spaces. Regardless off full tackle or eunuch status. Draw a line And tell them to get the fuck away from kids. Again be brutal. Stop being kind. Children should not be on puberty blockers. Cutting off their breast. And thinking about castrating themselves to become their ‘true self’. Anyone advocating that is a predator. Whether for monetary gain or ideology. End of. Again be firm. And fight.

Lack of eloquence! What? I totally comprehend what you are saying and it's very well stated. Our system such as it is is broken, broken, broken, and that's putting it nicely. Americans for the most part seem to prefer living in a dream world of celebrity, grotesque consumption of everything from false eyelashes to drugs, and insane thinking. We are saturated with neoliberal philosophy which produces the likes of Judith Butler.

Hang on a minute, it looks like people are jumping to conclusions... The Index On Censorship went to great lengths to support Maya at her tribunal, so it's unlikely they've turned against her. From what I understand, after Maya won her appeal, they published two opinion articles, one in support of Maya, one against, that seems perfectly reasonable to me. It's probably just an unfortunate coincidence they published that cartoon next to her response.

Yeah but, also the same organization who published a defence of Maya by Kathleen Stock in the same magazine and defended her rights at the tribunal.

Anyway, I looked it up and it wasn't even next to her response like I assumed from Maya's tweet. Maya's excellent rebutal was on pages 12 - 13, the cartoon pages 42 - 43. I also doubt that Ben Jennings would have known what else was going in the same issue when he sent in his cartoon.

Maybe Maya rubbed the editor up the wrong way with her complaint and the sub heading on the cartoon was a deliberate dig... maybe the IoC should be given a chance to comment before everyone jumps on them... maybe I'm a secret TRA because I'm wearing a pink t-shirt and blue jeans or maybe sometimes things can just be a random coincidence.

Expand full comment

That seems weird to me. Why would they post one for and one against? That seems mad! Just write the facts! Also, I'm afraid I do not believe in coincidence where that cartoon was right next to her reply. There are agendas everywhere and if they were truly simultaneously providing two opinions (therefore two "realities" that people can choose from) at the same time, where is the "for" cartoon?

Expand full comment

What's wrong with hearing both sides of a debate? I didn't see the actual magazine (did you?), so I am only assuming it was an editorial error. But, why would the IoC go to all the trouble of supporting Maya and then turn against her in such a childish way? Also, who's to say the "satan" character in the cartoon wasn't that Phoenix person?

Expand full comment

Because as a magazine, as a writer they should take a position and stick to it. It is not a writers, or journalists job to present both sides, it is their job to check what is fact and present that. Half the problem these days is because people keep legitimising untruths as "both sides" or a "balanced view" and then people take up these beliefs as being equally valid.

Expand full comment

Ironically, it sounds like you agree with that cartoon. The problem is both sides think they're right and the other's wrong. What it comes down to is you either stand for free speech for all or you don't stand for free speech. It wouldn't look good for the IoC, an organization dedicated to freedom of speech, if they didn't follow that rule in their own magazine.

Expand full comment

Eh? I have np idea how you construed that but keep your insults and conjectures about me to yourself thanks. Free speech does not mean putting both sides forward as if they are equal! Free speech is about being able to voice an opinion, ironically something women like me don't feel we can do without being vilified these days.

Where did I make any insults or conjecture about you?

You said: "Half the problem these days is because people keep legitimising untruths as "both sides" or a "balanced view" and then people take up these beliefs as being equally valid.". Isn't that literally the same point the cartoonist was making?

It's not the IoC's job to fact check the opinion writers in their magazine, it's not a newspaper. Nor is it in their remit to take sides on the transgender issue.

In my view, the fact that they allowed that Phoenix idiot to write such a deranged article actually did Maya a favour, they gave a much more prominent position for her right to reply than any national newspaper would have given and she tore his nonsense to shreds!

Which head are you talking about? As far as I can see the chair of the trustees since June 2018 is Trevor Phillips and the CEO since June 2020 is Ruth Smeeth. Both dodgy Blairites, but they were both appointed prior to Maya's appeal. Also, Simon Callow is one of their patrons and he publicly stated his GC beliefs only few weeks back.

I vehemently dislike Smeeth for her gaslighting smears against Corbyn and don't doubt she's an opportunistic TRA supporter too, so if there's any hard evidence that she's attacking Maya I'd gladly be proven wrong.
