May be worth mentioning that it is really easy to send Lord Philip Hunt a message of support or thanks by clicking on the "Send a message" button here: https://www.theyworkforyou.com/peer/13353/lord_hunt_of_kings_heath

In a former life, I used to work at Westminster, and I remember that the messages received after someone takes a stand like this (from both the critics and the supporters) make a huge difference in terms of how likely people are to speak up again in the future!

I've just done that. Thank you for telling me how to do it!

Thank you for the.link, I have just emailed him my grateful thanks.

Would you recommend this way rather than a card in the post or regular email?

There’s no right or wrong here! Cards and letters are great too! In fact, it’s good to have some of the messages via cards/letters because then the messages are spread a bit more over time, which can be really nice for parliamentarians to see.

I suspect Lord Hunt’s critics will be communicating with him in a wide range of ways, so good to make sure we’re doing the same with the positive messages.

Thanks! I like cards because everyone can see them and know they are demonstrations of support.

Done 👍

Great, thank you, have sent him a message of thanks

I messaged him. . . on the 22nd. To say thank you. And he's already emailed me back and thanked me for my kind words of support and said it was a start, but there's was still more to do. What a proper gent! And refreshing to get a reply - and so quickly. He's clearly on a mission. And no doubt wading through an inbox of good and bad. But I hope mostly good.

And Dr Jane Clare Jones in Hansard!

I had tears in my eyes listening to this.

Wow. My expectations where so low when I saw this blog. A few words about legal terminology was all I was expecting. But wow, it was great. Well done, Lord Hunt.

And a credit to all those who briefed you! Great to hear the amazing Jane Clare Jones getting a mention. And I imagine the excellent briefing on language in legislation by Sex Matters (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r6SMDWVXIMIVZGqgimLcSClDePnkURpk/view) must have played a great part in this. Thank you!!

I'm punching the ceiling, saying: "Fantastic!"

I am about to paste this on Twitter (having had no joy with my referral I will have to remove my perfectly correct but rude Tweet)

Interesting that Baroness Emma Nicholson also made the point about the erasure of the word woman in that debate, but because she is a Conservative peer and a woman no one is applauding her. Women’s voices are still ignored. DOI - never voted Conservative in my life.

We are praising her on Twitter

I’m not sure I agree these are the reasons. Baroness Nicholson has been very vocal on this issue for years, and that has to mean that an announcement from her on this would be less newsworthy.

Plus, I’m no Tory supporter, but I, for one, would have been just as happy with Lord Hunt’s speech today if he’d been a Tory, if not more so (given that a Tory peer might have more influence on the government than a Labour peer).

Yes but the comment was “someone has said it on a national stage”. Women’s voices don’t count as much as men’s voices.

sorry I didn't realise that there were some other brilliant speeches by women today. I'll be posting them up soon!

Please! Always good to hear some common sense plain speaking.

It wasn’t a comment re you really, just a response to my left wing friends who don’t think SBR advocates should talk to right wing politicians or supporters. It’s the same when women say that they don’t think men can be feminists so they don’t interact with anyone who isn’t woman.

I think it's a good point. And it's right for people to message Baroness Nicholson too:

I wonder if this lovely gentleman would mind having a word with the Democrats here in the U.S.

And his Labor counterparts in Australia too. (The ALP is currently captured by the "be kind, it's the new gay rights" narrative, though when the MPs speak on other issues it's clear they know what women are.)

This has probably already been pointed out, but chest feeders isn't even inclusive. I don't understand it's origin. I couldn't breast feed, so neither apply to me but I promise I did feed my baby. Maybe I was just a Milk Provider.

I assume it's for transman who don't like the word breast? Because natal men can get breast cancer.

It's just so bloody knee jerk and illogical.

Great speech. Absolutely hit the nail on the head. I hope it resonates.

Keep going. The misogynists are not going away. Don't let your guard down and keep pressing particularly MPs who don't know about Stonewall's Diversity Schemes for adults and children, and the general pervasive lobbying by Soros' Open Society Foundation, the US multi-billionaires like James/Jennifer Pritzker and Martin/Martine Rothbladt. Basically the "gas-lighters" IN PLAIN SIGHT.
