Seems as if these types infiltrate easily and then reek havoc which obvs make them very happy - seems the Welsh are going down the toilet like SNPLand..

I don't think it's a peculiarly Celtic trait. It's happening worldwide. I think it's hard to negotiate this, and easy to underestimate what external, English, dominance has done to every level of society. I am only now still trying to relearn the Welsh language that it was embarassing and shaming for my family to even admit to knowing, let alone write or speak, not so long ago. As an adult I represented Wales and was constantly annoyed at how the politics got in the way of provision of services. And how I was openly insulted for being English, when I am both and my family would be spinning in their graves to know I was putting up with racist and xenophobic nonsense. Diolch yn fawr!

Good to know. Hard to tell online and that's the excuse Joss Prior uses. Racism is lurking under the surface of a lot of this debate and every '-ism' and 'phobia' gets piled in.

“The most marginalised and oppressed” have, yet again the loudest, most aggressive, best politically-connected activists batting for them and secure the biggest share of the pie.

I do wonder what they think “marginalised” means.

I love you The Welsh Resistance! What a digest. I've passed rage into fury. What the hell is 'post-humanist'? Yeah, yeah, yeah I know all about humanist theories and social science phenomenological ontological ogicalisms, and the pedagogy of ogy and this is just crackers. Indefensible crackers. Swansea and Cardiff Universities what the hell are you doing? I also loved the visualisation - it's a powerful way to show how skewed and unrepresentative this is. So, Welsh Government, what are you doing about the growth of religious extremism, any connection do you think?

These people are not 'experts', should not be 'consulting' on 'consultations' or 'advising' and not to government. They speak in unprofessional and alarming ways and apparently deliberately. They have PhDs in bilge and it's more than chilling. How did these departments and staff escape the bonfire of academic institutions in the past few years? This woo seems seeded everywhere. There are strict rules about research, public engagement and the consultation process (or there used to be). I have worked with all UK governments and am very alarmed. This is anti-science, anti-logic, anti-Enlightenment and they've snuck this into all areas of our civil society. The laws we have are being flouted with impunity. I don't know how to start to unpick this and their wazzocky invented uses of fake stats, and that really scares me. Did too many of us take our eye off the ball? I didn't think I had, but I'm getting hoarse from shouting warnings.

When British women are erased as a category, and they are told that one of the 'experts' who contributed to that erasure was a Moroccan belly-dancer, I doubt the response will be a pretty one.

Thank you for this - heartbreaking though it is and relentless and seemingly never ending I worry for girls and women so much these days. I just don’t see how this nonsense has gripped so many in such an unrelenting and vice like grip.

Getting ready for work this morning I popped the tv on at 4:45 (don’t judge) and there was some filler programme on tuning through the top 10 most successful book to film franchises. It’s fodder that fins for about 10 mins between programs. What was interesting was that The Devil Wears Prada, the Hunger Games were both mentioned along with the usual expected offerings leading up to number 1 and not one entry was the Harry Potter franchise. They covered lord of the rings. (Number 1 apparently) 50 shades (not kidding) the girl with the dragon tattoo and the deVinci code

v interesting - pretending that jk rowling work can just be forgotten is v strange. her writings make millions for the exchequer (tax), and bring many tourists to the uk because of the harry potter films, and entertain millions of adults and children. her non inclusion seemsto be like the literal disappearance/erasure of trotsky in russian newsreels/films (under stalin) - orwell of course alludes to these acts of erasure in 1984. if so, why?

I want to cry.

I responded to the RSE consultation asking exactly where educational material would be sourced from and who would vet the validity. I also asked about the diversity of resources to be used… Reading this I am seriously worried.

As it stands, as a home educating family the enforced curriculum will have no bearing on my child’s education but I’m so pissed off this will be foisted onto other people’s children, hence my response. (Anyway each consecutive education minister keeps coming for HE)

I shall be responding to this too.

I've been feeling very depressed about all this gender ideology woo. A friend recently decided they were "non-binary" and has been commenting on those with DSDs as "proving" the spectrum of "gender" yadda yadda yadda. When is this going to explode and destroy the gender ideology cult?

Expand full comment

The whole non-binary thing is baffling to me… Surely if you are non-binary you are gender critical/gender non-conforming and in the fight against gender??? And to use individuals with DSDs to further their (flawed) argument when it’s sexual development not gender development?! Bonkers. I would roll my eyes at my younger self now caught up in the sea of belligerent ‘be kind’. Not quite sure how I went from rad fem in the 80s to social justice warrior, I clearly fell for the easy life and moral grandstanding. Thank the gods I’ve seen the light again.

FYI Catherine Burton is no longer chair of Race Equality First. According to Companies House he resigned directorship in July 2021 and his LinkedIn says the same. But your point is correct.

(Not sure what's happening...multiple postings)

Good spot. I'm loving Companies House for the astonishing information it holds that is so easy to access. People floating through the NHS, on LinkedIn, and hired as 'expert consultants' who as it turns out were no such thing (think ferry company T&Cs copied and pasted from a takeaway level of sophistication). Who then magically don't have their contracts renewed and disappear in to the ether, and have never ever worked there. Sorry who?

Race Equalities Councils and the like are often dodgy. So they resign and move on to where? They set up their 'consultancies' to 'advise' in other 'capacities'. I'm sick of this. All this groundbreaking 'the first' business. Is he the first hamster to pilot a BA plane too? Did BA know at the time? How would we know? Are all BA pilots women and always have been? Lying is now being 'reframed' as being so vulnerable and marginalised that you couldn't possibly tell the truth on job applications, health records, census forms or in the conduct of your duties. It's their ultimate get-out, except it's not. This breaks the law as Mridul Wadhwa should know.

Yes, Companies House is a fantastic resource for joining the dots. It's far too easy to set oneself up as some sort of consultant. We live in the age of "consulting."

Is the Welsh Government run by 5 year olds? How can they take anyone seriously from a lobbying group with Glitter in its name? Typing that it just occurs to me, I hope to God there's no connection with Gary! The people bringing their whole selves to work presumably won't mind anyone examining their hard drives either because the last thing they should be having anything to do with is Relationship and Sexuality Education. I am so sick of these Trans Identifying Men and their stupid female groupies steamrollering over everybody else's rights for their own sexual gratification. Very angry.

Something I have noticed is that both the Scottish and Welsh governments behave like the ever present contrary child. They see the Westminster government as the 'authority figure' against whom they must rebel and so, in their devolved activity, they do just that. It is all very puerile. The electorate in Scotland and Wales deserve better.

Expand full comment

To be honest Wales always was and still is a largely conservative country. As is often the case it’s the metropolitan electorate with the largest sway. Most of us working class left wingers feel politically homeless. If you go into a club in Wales I can guarantee they will think it’s all a load of bollocks.

It feels like some youngish, loud, demanding people are striding across me, my identity, my history, my society and my culture. And the links to academic institutions are clear. No wonder there is so much endemic anger bubbling up all over the UK and dogwhistles are taking advantage of it. It's dangerous as it means it heightens community tensions. I should not be ashamed of being born here, or anywhere in these Islands. Or being English or British. Or a woman. Or countless things.

I get asked where I am from as 'You can't be from here'. I get this a lot. 'Where are you really from?'. 'You seem different, you weren't born here'. I get fed up with this but explained to this taxi driver, in England, last year, that my family are from all over the World but I was born here. And then, that there was this place called Wales, where they speak Welsh. We got chatting as he was very inquisitive and doesn't meet many people outside of his community (his words). He didn't believe me and laughed. He knew nothing (his words), and kept laughing as I gave him a five minute explanation, some history and some useful quick phrases in Welsh. He was not from the UK. He mocked the cadence and sing-song way I spoke and said I was making it up. I encouraged him to go, take his family and enjoy the wonderful country. As I spoke, I became quite upset at him mocking this language and this people, that someone could have immigrated into the UK and be so ignorant and unwilling to believe Wales even exists. This matters. It's not the first time similar has happened. I didn't disrespect his language, family, religion, country of origin or culture. Have some damn respect for the communities that you live in and go outside your bubbles and speak to people.

Want to hear a completely different story? If I got out of work after midnight in NYC Monday through Thursday (Friday didn't matter -- I'd walk the two miles home) I'd take a cab. More than once I had a cab driver from Liberia who, in the dark, guessed my ethnic origins: German, Scots, Welsh, English. He was way cool!
