Nina Paley, like Dave Chappelle and JK Rowling, is a bona fide genius. She works in animation. Here’s one of her stunning short films.
But unlike Chappelle and Rowling, she is not a billionaire, and yesterday she tweeted the following.
When Michael Kupperman went pronoun-bonkers and I needed a new avatar, Nina drew for me the little beauty you see attached to all these posts. But I owe her for more than that. It’s one thing to take on the fight against this nonsense when you’re coming to the end of a career that has hitherto made your life somewhat comfortable, it’s quite another to do it when you’re still punching the clock. Women like Nina (and Eggen, and Birdy, and Jess) remind me of the bravery it takes to hold a position when no fucker is interested in relieving you of it.
They help me go on, so please help them go on. If you’re one of the eight people who joined my Patreon, please switch over to Nina’s one. Because I have no idea how to use Patreon and she almost certainly does.
Thanks for this Graham. I listen to Heterodorx with Nina and Corrina and they are just brilliant but I’d never actually seen any of Nina’s work and certainly didn’t know she had designed your avatar. Nina and Corrina are so sharp and funny- and the Grace Lavery interview… well, that is certainly something. I recommend everyone who reads this to please check out the Heterodorx podcast if you haven’t already, it’s free on Spotify and they don’t have nearly as many listeners as they deserve. Their chat with the wonderful Angus Fox after the Grace Lavery interview is both humorous and informative. It pleases me immensely that you and Nina already had a connection and that you are actively supporting her 👍🏻
Nina also has paypal so if you want to slug her a one off payment check that out - got the link from her twitter bio
