I'm a member of BACP and signed the letter. It's been an awful position to be in as most therapists go along with it all. I've stopped practicing with adolescents until things change.I cannot ethically go along with the affirmation model.

Kara Dansky had a good piece in the U.S. about hearing from a pediatrician who is stepping back from practice due to being forced to go along with transing young children. It's hard to believe our doctors could become any more abysmal, but they're working hard at it!

It is good that some pediatricians ARE refusing to go along with transing, and giving up practice rather than be complicit in child abuse. THIS is good.

Good for you standing up for your ethical principles, I imagine it is not easy.

I am so glad that I retired from membership of the BACP and from Counselling some years ago. I feel for current membership trying to navigate their way through this disastrous quagmire like @Cheryl Mulholland. And the tragedy is that we need therapists now more than ever before. We therapists have always put ethical matters at the heart of our practice, and these days…we’ll…where do we start? Signed.

Sold out. Two they/thems & a he. Good film title, huh? The 'he' is a a transman, so I suppose it's a badge of honour to insist on male descriptors. But how utterly confusing for the rest of us. I do like that they spelt 'cis' as 'cic': yes, 'cic' of all their bullshit.

Current practice of toeing the "queer" line is akin to abandoning any meaningful and successful therapy.

Actually it will do the opposite. The “queer” “affirmative” therapy will create new problems and exacerbate existing ones. Better no “therapy” at all.
