Rape crises centres aren’t used by “guests”surely? They are service users and the Equality Act applies. Ongoing nonsense support workers are being indoctrinated with. The charity sector is very vulnerable to gatecrashing political careerists - they’ve often been concerned with getting a trusteeship to make their CVS look special. They have always been a massive pain in the backside for caring, knowledgeable people working in the sector. This is taking things to new levels.

They don’t understand the work- never did. If a rape crises centre is a charity it should be a matter for the Charities commission. Where are the CCs teeth - they need to bite. Hard!

They are also exempt from having to admit men - this is so wrong

Oh Moley! I see these pictures and think, oh that’s nice. Then I realise I’ve been moled!

Well, sorry! And yes, I tend to get 'blamed for everything around here'.... (I wonder why?)

I did several of these - all (I hope) humorous ones. This was the only serious one!

It really helps when I'm doomscrolling as it punctures the doom a fair bit when I spot one. Thanks Moley.

I love the 'moled' verb. Somehow more powerful than just saying 'I've been molied, or moleyed'.

Re Eilis o’Hanlon’s tweet about how Kieran Cuddihy’s apology to Eoghan Harris got far less Twitter coverage than Cuddihy’s original horrible porkie pie.

When Kieran Cuddihy first took over ‘The Hard Shoulder (his Newstalk radio show in Ireland) he seemed ok. Then gradually he became ever more PC and quasi-Woke.

Is it careerism, cowardice or stupidity that is behind that phenomenon?

Ironically Ivan Yates, the ex-politician and bookie who presented the show up to a year before Kieran Cuddihy took over, had built-up a huge audience by not being (or pretending not to be) PC or Woke.

I suspect that, like me, a lot of the audience have deserted Cuddihy for better alternatives.

Unfortunately nearly every radio presenter in Ireland now seems to want to wear James O’Brien’s underpants. Some would settle for even Owen Jones’ little togs.

Graham - quick aside, in case you don't check past threads. I identified the Bristol "scumbag" in your June 20 post -"Found one". Details over on that post.

I sometimes use asterisk to spare blushes or slightly amend my writing to appease filters/sensibilities. It's pragmatic. It's hard to remain metered posting online. What kind of a fuck was that he was wishing on those he calls TERFS? It wouldn't be consensual would it? This man was threatening corrective rape to women on his original placard in public and yet has a pretence to not offend by slightly obscuring the middle letters of fuck? So us women are allowed to take his socially acceptable extreme violent misogyny, but other beards like him are inspired by the child abuse flag to feel hugged and loved? Odd messaging. Excluding and including, hating and caring.

What a nice, I mean confused, man. Manly, manly man. Gamer too? Funny that.

A few images of '98% still essential Pride' slipped through my filters. Almost every one is a man in drag. I guess the Met weren't allowed to send furries in their leather dog gear this year, so at least we were spared that.

I realise we are living in the age of the acronym - which is going to destroy communication as surely as the trans redefinition of pronouns. What is "TiM"? This link is no help:

https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/TIM

There are 93 possibilities. If anyone can help narrow it down I'd be grateful.

TiM - Trans-identified Male

Expand full comment
Jul 3, 2022·edited Jul 3, 2022

Ah but is that a "Trans" who identifies as a male or a male who identifies as a "Trans"? Also, what is a "Trans"? And finally: Who gives a shit anyway?

Expand full comment

Exactly. Dip a bit further in the gloop and you find, like with most 'terms'. 'Trans' is some unidentifiable 'feeling' or 'essence' that once stated is set in stone and must not be challenged or questioned. People get very confused with what a trans X is, and if that's a man thinking he's a woman (no IS! IS! IS!) or vice versa. It's designed to confuse, and to query or ask is to be a bigot. It covers whatever you want to call yourself - so that might be questioning, confused, traumatised, depressed, angry, isolated, rejecting stereotypes, bored, attention seeking, fulfilling stereotypes, projecting, transsexual, dysphoric, wanting to be part of some club or part-time dress up. Or just an inner feeling in your 'soul'. All entirely unchallengeable.

The sad reason we need to give a shit is that activists for this are in schools, workplaces, the streets, legislative bodies, the courts, healthcare and actively trying to change more laws to give themselves more 'rights'.

I am so sad this has balled itself up in a movement that is pure misogynistic bile. There's quite a lot on what 'trans' or different/othered 'umbrella' now covers.

It covers those who think love knows 'no age' otherwise known as paedophilia and boy love. The person who created the flag for example. These are those who demand no boundaries. I think women and anyone remotely interested in safeguarding absolutely must give a shit too.

".... some unidentifiable 'feeling' or 'essence' ..."

That was pretty much openly stated in this article:

https://www.vox.com/identities/2019/9/5/20840101/terfs-radical-feminists-gender-critical

You will note the remarkably candid comment from the obligatory persecuted trans person who says: “I realize that some of you may have trouble understanding this. In truth, I have had to live with it every day of my life and even I do not fully understand it myself”.

How more obvious can you get? "Even I don't understand it"! Would that be due to the fact that you've been hypnotised into accepting this strange mantra circulating everywhere?

There is an enormously amorphous aspect to this weird thing. People are going around on tiptoe anxious not to upset ... somebody or other over something or other.

'Katelyn' might have wanted to check her facts a little more all the way from Washington, US. But then the 'corrections' would be longer than the screed she produced. What a holey piece. Doc Stock was harassed in real life, on the site of her workplace. Not only online. How lovely to cherry-pick.

Seeing these activists unpicking precedent that has protected women, and was very hard won, since the 70s is foul. And using their sex stereotyping against us! Thanks ACLU.

Well put. Hard to think how to explain how any interaction with this 'logic' or 'critical theory' goes, but greased pigs, eels and anything slippery fits. Figments, phantoms and the rest. Demanding 'rights' and now.

It might be worth going through the archives here if you can bear it. It's a hard slog, but it's one of few places where the full monstrosity of this alternate reality is laid out. You'll pick up on some of the usual characters, their fetishes and their modus operandi.

It covers the new language, concepts, definitions, the full shebang ;-). It also links to other resources and sources so you can find ones that cover media mentions, court cases and rulings or research studies. And the work of other people and groups that have been covering this for a while. It covers psychiatry, politics, medicine, education and the law.

Every time I see that simpering dazed look on the face of the thing in the photo used in the 'Princess Mom' article pinned on this site it reminds me of the horror of first reading it. And the absolute stupidity of those accommodating it 'to be nice' and 'inclusive'.

Keep a bucket next to you for the vomit.

The only useful suggestion I have is to obtain a useful cat to sit on your keyboard and the downscroll arrow. I know - oldest or by date would be useful to get an idea of the chronology. Sometimes things are ordered, or 'picks' change (and that's substack's front end). Maybe Glinner can select a few classics to sum things up in potted guide.

Oh and TiM is a funny one - it covers three important threads in this critical queer studies philosophy and it's a deliberately silly code to crack. 'T' is usually 'trans' or 'testosterone'. 'I' for identity, as this all sits within 'identity politics' and anyone can identify as what they wish and demand whatever pretend subjugation and marginalisation they like. It's all an '-ism' or an '-ist' as we're all nasty racist/sexist/classist/capitalist/right wing bigots now. Unless you are 'an ally' (see 'Allyship').

And the 'M' - this is mostly led by really aggressive men, males, or women LARPing (live action roleplaying) as social justice warriors. There's a lot of mentally very unwell people and so it's hard to read a lot of the time. It feels crackers to read as that's what it is. Unhinged nonsense given credence by too many.

The little forums and worlds that sprouted the unholy growth spurt in this festered for the past two decades or more online.

You’re right, some of them are really ‘unwell’, ThoughSheBeButLittle.

It’s quite sad to hear how mixed up and confused they can be. The two Trans whatever who spoke on the recent RTE Liveline phone-in radio programme sounded to me as if they were just sad, confused little losers. One, from memory, said (s)he was a Transgender man but then proceeded to keep contradicting herself/himself/itself and admitting they were possibly gender fluid and then, almost immediately, re-considered that statement and tentatively said she/he/they/whatever might be something else etc.

That’s what TENI and Amnesty etc in Ireland and Stonewall etc in the UK get so vexed about. The great majority of teenage Trans are totally incoherent when they are asked in open debate to explain who or what they are or feel like and why.

To be fair to Scouts, I think those are called "fun badges" (which can simply be bought) to distinguish them from Proficiency badges, which have to be earned.

So not necessarily saying "Trans is fun", though still totally inappropriate.

Phew so my brownies/girlguiding proficiency in making tea, setting a table, making a bookmark or identifying leaves isn't challenged by these upstarts. But buying badges??! Is nothing sacred. My first bookmarks were huge and round, and made from jelly, it took hours to perfect the craft.
