I have explained the "progress flag" this way: the rainbow represented people who are gay or lesbian. They come in all colors of the rainbow. Gay rights was about their right not to be abused, or fired, etc., because of their inborn sexual orientation. The gay rights movement culminated in gay marriage rights.

The triangle creeping in from the left works differently: black and brown people are used as a shield, or an excuse. Black and brown people were already in the rainbow - that's what it meant. But a new identity politics came up that said being black or brown is more important to identity than being gay, and the trans activists made use of that as a cover. Behind that cover, pervs and nonces flood in, and behind them it's all white, straight men pulling the strings. The rainbow is being invaded, the rights of gays and lesbians are being abolished, and behind it all is the same heterosexual patriarchy from before the rainbow was first displayed. But this time in a skirt.

White men who bewilderingly identify as liberals, repeatedly and often successfully, crowbar their way into movements and groups that have nothing to do with them. Men like Owen Jones, naturally, and Seumas Milne did it with Muslims in relation to Islamophobia, or what they decided was Islamophobia. In the process they made things much more difficult for non-literalist Muslims and created more hostility towards Islam, which conceivably was the intention. Though Jones now seems to have largely abandoned highlighting Islamophobia in favour of 'transphobia'.

In his case, it's a functional if poor concealment for his misogyny. It allows him to attack women with impunity, whilst doing nothing good for transgender people. As for the rainbow flag, I agree, it has been appropriated by people who are pushing out the ones it represented, and whose fight for rights and unity it symbolised. As well as appropriating and using oppression of black and brown LGBT people, who are, as you say, already included in the flag. The current flag is a corruption, and the property of a small number who give a fatuous nod to the creators of the original.

And this has happened with the cooperation and instigation of the foremost organisation that previously campaigned for the rights and freedoms of LGB people, and implausibly still claims to. It's beyond risible.

Meanwhile real Muslim women and men continue to be discriminated against and suffer hardship. My sister's nephew (nephew of her Syrian husband), a fairly devout Muslim like all her husband's family, was recently released from prison in Malaysia. He'd gone there to escape the civil war in Syria. There was no reason he had to be put in prison while they processed his UNHCR application, but he was. He was maltreated. Thank God it's now been accepted and he's been released; otherwise he would have been deported back to Syria. I wonder what Owen Jones thinks should happen to people like him -- in fact, to all suffering people in the Muslim world? Or my sister who is similarly modest (albeit in a Western country)? "Transphobia" activists are full of contradictions.

Jones never gave a damn about the well being of Muslims here, the Middle East or anywhere else in the world. When Isis was at the height of its power and executing Syrians and Iraqis, some Guardian writers seemed not to know whose side they should be on. Most, but not all who were murdered were Muslim, though, unlike their killers, they weren't Sunni.

I might have mentioned this on here before, I'm not sure, but one writer whose name I can't remember actually referred to beheading, one of the more horrific methods of execution, as being quick and relatively painless. God knows who managed to recover enough to relay this, but I'm guessing it's absolutely no one.

For the sake of not encouraging hostility towards Muslims, ha fucking ha, murder, rape and torture weren't enough to provoke an unconditional, critical response. The indefensible was either defended or ignored. Whilst I'm not putting TRA's and other assorted misogynists on a par with a particularly sadistic terrorist organisation, they do share a hatred of women, they want to shut them up and some want to hurt women.

The latter are regressive and illiberal, yet they are feted by liberals. They are protected by liberals, and this is a group they aren't afraid of, they don't have to show the kind of caution they do to anything linked to Islam. It isn't because they're talking about a marginalised group of people, something most trans rights activists are not, they simply agree with what they stand for and their aims. Essentially, they support male oppressors and predators.

Wow, that is some comment (the one about beheading). I think liberalists have tied themselves up in knots over all this. As you say, trying to defend (or merely ignore) the indefensible. I think it is coloured by the fact that in the UK the majority of Muslim immigrants have come from Pakistan and Bangladesh rather than Syria and the Middle East and there is not much understanding. FWIW the entirety of my sister's inlaws, who are Sunni, are absolutely opposed to Isis and everything it stands for. They also loathe Assad and the regime in Syria. This was the difficulty with the Syrian civil war - it was latched on to by Isis-related groups in some areas which gave Assad the excuse he wanted to continue his murderous actions against his own people (supported by Putin ofc). Off topic, sorry.

On a wider scale, a global scale ultimately, the existance of Isis and what it did, took place with the cooperation and help of politicians, east and west who wanted a particular outcome. That's nothing new, it's always the way. We should forget morality and morality lessons here, but this does emerge on the level of direct human experience. In this instance, witnessing or becoming aware of some of the things that were happening, and are happening. As you say, supposed liberals are contorting themselves into all kinds of shapes to accommodate their massive hypocrisy.

There are clearly no easy right/wrong answers, and it is easy to be facile about "the peace-loving religion", or the "religion that oppresses women". I had my own fixed ideas and still can't understand why my sister is so happy to wear her face scarf; but she is.

I don't think it is your business to judge Syria or Assad. I think it is your business to oppose your government's role in every U.S.-instigated and -supported war, including the war in Ukraine where there is strong evidence of U.K. military training Nazi battalions.

Possibly it's a bit of paranoia on my part, though it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. I feel the same way about his then superiors at the Guardian.

Sara Gibbs has never in her life seen another person’s genitals in a woman’s bathroom. Well duh. Because that’s not what women do. But now that men are being publicly waved in (just on their deluded and/or lying say-so) it’s totally another story. How bloody dishonest can a woman be?

I had the misfortune of having dinner in a country pub in Dorset last week which had mixed-sex toilets. They thought they were doing ok with one cubicle labelled M/F/disabled, two cubicles for F, and one for M (though it didn't seem to have a urinal), plus basins outside in the communal space. I went in the first F cubicle. Clearly was frequently used by men as the grout between the tiles was pretty dirty which suggests frequent urine on the floor, to me. And the loo was also suspiciously wet. It was not pleasant. Not to put too fine a point on it but I do not want to use a loo that a bloke has just wee'ed all over. Even if he accidentally went in the wrong cubicle and accidentally forgot to aim straight. But people would probably say it was fine because all the cubicles were enclosed. In fact a bloke arrived as I was washing my hands and he had to squeeze past me to get to the M cubicle. It was really awkward and I don't have any religious or cultural reasons not to share space with blokes. The whole thing is such a bad idea.

I gotta level with everyone - this pedo predator story has broken me. Shit. It’s so disturbing and awful I can’t even take any comfort in the fact that at least he wasn’t talking to an actual child. Something had better be done about this POS. What to do? Call the police in Berkeley and demand an immediate hold and investigation?

Being a female critic of the 'gender' cult makes you a 'shitty Nazi non-man'. Who knew?

The ‘photo editing’ enterprise is quite a metaphor for this entire ‘gender’ ideology isn’t it? Altering reality and its past. At least photo editing doesn’t involve surgical incisions (and removals and add-ons) or endocrine chemical injections -- just the outright erasure of the truth.

Did anyone else have trouble accessing the Lesbians-United.org resource about Gonadatrophin Agonists (Lupron category of puberty blockers?) I'm wondering if the page already got hacked?

The US FDA does have warnings on them, regarding the "on-label" uses, for prostate cancer, fibroids, and so on. I've posted what I could copy on my blog.

Reduxx taking that Family Guy cartoon to the extreme. You would expect anyone caught like that with the slightest sense of self preservation to immediately start wiping and locking every online account the moment they got home.

Instead, they're still tweeting!

What that man going after the pedophile should have done was immediately make a citizen's arrest.

This was a misdemeanor and the nonce had the bad form to commit it in his presence. You can make an arrest at that point. He had ample evidence that a crime was committed.

The cops would have been compelled to do something.

Under California Penal Code Section 272, it is unlawful to lure or attempt to lure a minor under the age of 14. Conviction can result in fines, up to one year in jail, and up to five years of probation.

In California, arranging to meet with a minor for lewd purposes falls under Penal Code 288.4. This charge has three “elements”:

1. The defendant arranged a meeting with a minor or a person that they believed to be a minor

2. The defendant was motivated by an abnormal or unnatural sexual interest in children

3. At the solicited meeting, the defendant intended to expose or have the minor expose their genitals, pubic or rectal area or to engage in lewd or lascivious behavior with the minor.

The case is a felony when:

The defendant has a prior sex crime conviction on their record which required them to register under California’s Sex Offender Registration Act.

The defendant attended the arranged meeting. In order to be guilty of violating Penal Code 288.4, you only need to have attempted to arrange a meeting .
