The backlash from the left is also going strong in response to the popularity of "ok groomer".

Few of those complaining that it's a hyperbolic pejorative have been as keen to defend fellow leftists from accusations of fascism, bigotry, transphobia or any other slur used to silence anyone with opposing views.

You get all the credit, Graham. There's been a lot of pushback against using the word "grooming", but you were right all along.

It's been spectacularity revealing that the gender extremist brigade blithely dismiss issues of potential harm to minors re: gov' omitting trans from conversion therapy legislation.

Is it willful ignorance, cruel indifference, or outright inhumanity? All three are outrageous and all three are contributing to the wreckage of young people’s lives. We need to see some judicial retribution soon.

Both books ordered and petition signed. The conflation of sex with gender, as well as free speech and being offensive, with theats and intimidation is ridiculous. Seems the police and the university authorites need educating on this ironically. I cannot tell you how utterly sick I am of hearing there's nastiness on both sides when there isn't. Women and groups like these academics are simply raising ligitimate concerns which they want to discuss and immediately they are labelled as terfs/transphobes and then apparently all threats and insults (and violence) are justified and ignored while the TRAs can just claim to feel "unsafe" with no evidence to any threat to body or self.

It’s hilarious that the LGBT conference cancelled itself 😄 Why they didn’t use the conference as a platform to push their case for trans inclusion in the conversion therapy ban, like any other groups would, can only be because they have no case. They did a “no-debate” number on themselves 🤣

Re: mdiwives: It's not the first time that midwives as targeted as multipliers of esoteric ideologies. They are in a position of trust with women in a very intense phase in their lives. Plus, overall, their patients are - on the whole - women with above average incomes and above average education. So, they are targeted by quacks all the time. Alternative "medicine" providers have been sponsoring workshops and seminars for midwives for decades, of course with a view to them peddling their wares, and spreading the esoteric worldview behind it. No wonder that they were one of the first groups targeted by trans ideology.

Perhaps midwives' clients are as privileged as you say, but midwifery in the U.S. survived as a way for backwoods women to have access to some health care. Midwives and nurses, often on foot, climbed the hollers of Appalachia to get to their patients.

Oh, I didn't make a statement about the history of the profession. Nor do I by any means mean to diminish the contribution midwives and nurses make to health care every day. Today, the situation is a bit different, though. Most births take place in clinics or hospitals, where midwives are not necessarily part of the medical team. Midwives are often hired on a private basis, partly to compliment the hospital team, partly for home births - which of course requires financial means.

Midwives will be part of the hospital team in the UK. We (I say we, I was once a midwife) deliver babies on our own responsibility if the birth is straightforward, involving other HCPs if needed. Complex births are a doctor's domain, with the midwife assisting. Most midwives work within the National Health Service, some work privately. I am shocked to my core that midwifery has swallowed this gender identity garbage as it has.

In the UK as Anne says below midwives take a very prominent leading role as part of the maternity team and at least in my health trust most women start under midwife care and only go to the doctors if there are complicating factors at any stage antenatally or during the birth. So the point is just that midwives are working with women of all socioeconomic backgrounds. Where I gave birth, it wouldn't be just "middle class" but more people of limited means I would say. So we were all looked after by midwives and sadly doctors were very thin on the ground on the occasion where I needed a lot of extra help! But most of the midwives are so impressive! I think you might be thinking of private midwives or doulas, who would be working with and advising women who have the means to hire them.

Not being argumentative btw, just saying midwives are working with a lot of women. But I think things differ wildly in different countries. In the UK, they are the main people until they have to bring out the big guns!

The women below have explained this eloquently. Woman’s Hour is a UK radio programme. Midwifery in the UK bears no comparison to what you’re describing. US women might hire doulas if they have enough money (having already budgeted for the cost of paying for a delivery). Midwives in the UK are Health Care Professionals, usually working in hospitals.

This may be true where you live, but not in many other places. Even in hospitals, midwives are often involved, and in the U.S., where having a baby in a hospital is expensive even with "health insurance," women find it cheaper to have home births if there are no complications. A stepchild of my sister had a home birth attended only by "the Lord," and as he and his wife said, the "Lord" sent no bill.

I bet He didn't send any pain relief either. Bastard.

Not my experience !! Having been a practicing midwife for 43 years until my retirement ,I can refute the above statement. The vast majority of my patients over the years were ordinary working class people and many of them were on benefits .Women of ALL.classes give birth you know

Are you a nurse midwife? The word “midwife” in the US can cover a wide range of levels of training and credentials. The Midwives Alliance of North America didn’t require a high school degree for its trainees until about ten years ago, if I’m remembering correctly. People discuss the use of midwives assuming that they all have extensive training as medical practitioners, when many of them have very limited training. “Midwife” in the US could mean an actual registered nurse or someone who didn’t even go to college.

I'm British ,so trained as a registered nurse first ,then as a midwife so obviously it's different over here in the UK.,than in the US. Midwives in the UK are practitioners in their own right but will involve the medics when required ,in the case of complications ,for example ,

He’s fascinating. He’s intelligent, and so full of crap, and has a mean streak. He seems smart enough to know it’s all BS. This must be a scary time for him. His insecurities leak out when he’s bragging about his status, like how Berkeley has had noble laureates and such. He’s an expert at self promotion, which I believe certain personality disorders are said to be. But the way he talks and writes- after a while people figure out he’s a fraud, and he has to know this.
